How often has Valencia really been praised over the last two seasons? I've seen him get plenty of criticism.

Truth is him and Nani are as ordinary as each other. Nani can't even get picked as often as Valencia though, for whatever reason. Thus he should be sold first. His time here is clearly done imo.

A lot.

Agree Nani doesn't get as many chances as Valencia or Young for some reason. Still, when he does get his chances he has to do a bit more than today.

This really fecking annoys me.

Kagawa and Nani ALWAYS seemed to get subbed early regardless of how they play in the game. There were loads of players who deserved to get subbed today ahead of Nani. Atrocious management.

And if he does try to do more, he'd be criticized for that. He came close with one shot -- one of the few on the team iirc.

Young was awful and gave the ball away a dozen times. Nani kept it and moved it around. That team play that's so important when other players do it. For Nani there's a different standard...he should go to another team.

Not sure why Young was kept on to continue crossing to nowhere.

Doesn't excuse Nani's performance though. I know he's hardly had momentum in the team recently but he really disappointed me today. I'd have liked to see him be more direct and play with urgency on the ball. There were some decent combination moves that were let down by a poor cross or delaying on the ball too long. He did try to pass forward and get into space which we don't do often enough, and he did have one the best chances at goal though, but he couldn't keep that shot down.

He played for 50 mins. Created our best opening with a nice flick to Evra. Got subbed right after it. How is anyone meant to get confidence from that?

Hopefully he puts Young and Valencia in his bags and takes them with him so we don't have to suffer from those fascinating 'who was more shit, Nani, Young or Valencia' debates.

Clearly needs to become closer with Giggs if he wants to have more game time.

Confidence...he had two years chance to get that ..now I guess that his chance is gone

Pisses me off when young was literally doing nothing, just before he got subbed he split the defence open, he has that ability to do something out of nothing which you need against teams like that.

Giggs is just showing exactly what's wrong with the current mentality of the club. Cross Wrinse and repeat.

Pathetic...he had the same problems with Ferguson (for one season) and Moyes. I guess the problem is with Nani himself

Problem is that Nani did that thing just once the whole match, one shot off target and that pass, that's about it.

I'm starting to feel for us fans here because we're seriously arguing in a contest called ' Who's the worse winger ? ' while it's all three that should be shown the doors.

Well no thats not all he did, he also passed the ball about well in our buildup finding teammates around the edge of the box. When Mata, Kagawa or Valencia do that they get credit, I dont know why Nani doesn't. He also won the ball more than any of our players except Carrick. At the time he went off they had both made 3 tackles.

Again it was still a below par performance overall and although it was brilliant play to flick Evra in right before the sub, I felt it was an okay choice to replace Nani and keep Young on because Young had done more overall in the game.

However Young proceeded to do sweet f all for the rest of the game except wayward crosses. So he was clearly the one we should have taken off in actuality as he was a spent force.

He released Evra to the byline with a flick just before he was subbed off. Evra shrugged his shoulders on the touchline as if to ask Giggs what is he doing, was rather comical.

My prediction; he will be picked up by a Spurs/Everton level team for peanuts this summer. Next season he will be a key player for that side, and will be played regularly as a first choice winger, will perform extremely well, leading idiots to question why he supposedly couldnt do it at United.

I think he will want to play CL otherwise I agree with what you said.
Also when we need a goal why take off the one player who can literally create a goal on his own.
I did not think he played badly today. Nice short passes although few were threatening.

He'll go to somewhere like Galatasary or Russia imo.

Its a possibility, I would be surprised if none of the reasonable teams in Spain/Italy/Germany wanted to take a punt on him though, given he will probably end up going for a pittance.

He seems to me like the kind of player who'd rather play for more money in an easier league than go to say Fiorentina, Napoli, Schalke or Valencia.

Perhaps Monaco's a possibility.

Can see it being a top Serie A team like Roma or Napoli who can surprise people in the champions league

We shouldn't question his ability, cause he's a player but was soooo poor today. I think he's one of the players that needs to move on. I'm sure at the right club say in Italy will prove to be successful.

I knew I would get some abuse for stating my gut feeling but I did not anticipate the level of vitriol. In future I will keep such feelings to myself.
Don't, just ignore it mate. For every person slagging you off there's loads more interested in reading slightly different perspectives or opinions. I'd much rather read your post than someone regurgitating exactly the same opinion as everyone else has just expressed. If you can back up what you're saying with why you think it, you say whatever you want. Don't get drawn into people getting personal.

Nani has been mailing it in every game he's played this season, with the world cup firmly in his sights. Ppl can make excuses about him not getting enough games - he's played 12 times this year (8 starts, 4 subs) and has 1 solitary goal vs some pub team in the ECL (Leverkeusen ). He's not done much in a Utd jersey since 2011/12 and has been an injury mess since, to add to the poor and average games produced when fit...

Hows he even getting in the Portugal team seeing as he's always injured or not playing for United?

Because for the first time in many years we don´t really have enough winger options. Our possible options include Porto´s winger Varela who is average at best and probably Quaresma (besides Ronaldo obviously). Danny is an interesting player for Zenit but i don´t know if Paulo Bento is going to call him up again (after some controversy about a suspicious injury where he left our National team and still played for Zenit). That leaves us Nani, who even with his lack of United form, is still one of our most dangerous players with a decent performance historial for Portugal. Also like i said in previous posts, it was actually our national team coach Paulo Bento who "launched" Nani at Sporting, and he obviously rates him. I didn´t expect Nani to pull an amazing performance today, with the lack of playing time and with the probable mental fear issues regarding his injuries when the World Cup is near. He is clearly out of form. I just hope he picks it up in the National team friendlies coming up before the World Cup and respective squad training.

Wut? He didn't create 1 key pass today. He did make 3 tackles which is unusual.

And Darren fletcher had 3 key passes according to whoscored. Stats can be misleading. If you watched the game you know what chance I'm talking about.

Cheers for the info mate :) I was thinking a few weeks ago I wonder if Nani will go to the World Cup, looks like he certainly will!

No problem mate. Nani at the World Cup is almost a certainty. I just don´t call it as certain because of his injury historial. He is an integral part of our setup for a while now and will be in Brazil.

That statos are hilarious aren't they

The flick to Evra? The counter? Still not enough - none of them were clear chances by Nani - the clearest chance we had was the one Chicharito hit over and maybe the shot Danny hit. .

They were all poor today, and Nani rightly got hooked - needless to say he wasn't the only one that needed it, but we only get 3 subs! Young survived probably because he was more lively/committed and was actually trying vs coasting. Nani looked as if he is already signed for Inter.

I've lost my patience with him tbh - I labelled him the most disappointing player this season - allowing for injuries - a few weeks back because we know he is so talented and can put in outstanding performances (more so than many other players in our squad), but we've not seen it for a very, very long time now. He wasn't the worst player against Sunderland of course, but I keep expecting more from him.

Injuries of course have played a part, but don't I think they tell the whole story - and certainly doesn't strengthen the case to keep giving him chances. Disappointing.

I do hope he has a good WC. At his best he is a brilliant player to watch, I do fear he's lost some of his pace though, he used to beat players for fun.

Needs to have a great WC for us to get a decent amount of money for him. At this stage we will barley get 15m even though hes on a long contract. On top form he is in the top 5 wingers in the world, that form was two years ago now, and he should be coming into the peak of his career.

I consider Nani to be Portugal's second best player. He has a lot of caps and if I am not mistaken did he not captain Portugal when Ronaldo was suspended for their last WC qualifying group match. Nani played great in that game.
He seems to play better when a lot of the play goes through him.
