Heartbreaking isn't it :(

Kinda like being a Juve fan in 99 I guess.

Juve weere outclassed in 99 and gave us a standing ovation in the Della alpi. We pretty much outclassed Bayern Munich until the second yellow so I'd have to say it was worse....we were so close yet.....:(

Nani being able to use his left so well is a great asset. Now defenders don't know which way he can go

Think the vast majority of his goals have been with his left:
West Ham
Bursaspor
WBA
Blackburn
Stoke
B'ham

For sure. It's weird actually. It sometimes looks as though he favours his left. When was the last time he worked the keeper with his right foot? He seems to be genuinely ambidextrous.

Some of our youngsters are the same, actually. You watch the likes of Keane, Macheda and Morrison playing football and it can be almost impossible to work out which is their strongest foot.

6 out of 8 goals and most of them have been crackers as well. And one of his two with the right was the easy controversial tap in against Tottenham.

I guess the numbers aren't that surprising considering he plays on the right and thus will have to use his left peg if he wants to have a proper shot at goal, but still very impressive.

Agreed.
Out of his pretty underwhelming crosses he put in against Birmingham the one that was absolutely great to Rooney was also with his left.

Certainly a great ability to be two-footed.

It must be a fantastic part of our training regime of late. Ronaldo could use either foot brilliantly too as I recall.

If only Valencia were here as a youngster :)

Comes down to ability..Berbatov is better with being just right footed than most will ever be using both. Valencia is simply very right footed and the left is a bit of a swinger.I doubt very much at this stage he's going to get any better with his left

Of course he won't, you have to have trained in that aspect of your game as a youngster in order to obtain it, otherwise you'll never pick it up.

Not sure....Messi has improved considerably with his right and that has come down to sheer hard work on his weaker foot

Am I the only one who thought Nani was great tonight or something? Nobody seems to be mentioning him in the MoTM thread. He was our only player who looked like doing anything in the first half. Great pass for the first goal and he absolutely flew through their defense at times.

I know Giggs and Chicarito were super subs, but over the 90 minutes I think Nani was our best player, bar maybe Berbatov.

You're not alone Cina, I thought he was stunning on the ball tonight.. but I thought the others were so vital towards the win, they merited being top three.

I agree with both of you ;)
Hach what a great game that was... Cost me at least 10 years of my life though ;)

Nani was great tonight indeed. Love his little disguised pass to Fletcher for the first goal. He's such a dangerous attacking threat for us. You can see defences back off when Nani starts sprinting towards them.

One of his first runs in the match today was a stunner, dribble past three players like they werent there.

His final ball seems to be lacking a bit these days however he still manages to come up with the goods. Perhaps its because he is seeing the ball much more.

He was mixing roll the foot over the ball step-overs, with direct dribbling at speed and it was a gorgeous sight to behold. He also looks dangerous each time he wants to cut in off the flank, he's one of the best wingers in the world if he could just produce a tad more consistent end product.

I think Holloway agrees with those of us who thought Nani was great once more, seeing how he switched the fullbacks, assumingly to contain him better.

The stats won't reflect it (ie. no goals or assists) but he was the one the team looked when we were trying to turn the game around. Others stepped up as well, but Nani was always a threat.

Was again interesting to see that his end product, especially crosses, with his right foot let him down at times today but he put in great ones with his left again.

Maybe he is naturally left-footed, but just assumed he was right-footed...

Yup, I'm going with that to explain his erratic set-pieces.

Its not actually that daft your logic 'well for the left footed naturally anyway' :)

I'm naturally left sided but all my brothers were right sided so I learned to play sport that way. Golf, Tennis, football, Cricket etc, i'm right handed in all of them.

Teams start to pay much more attention to him, doubling him up, that is why he's been a bit more quiet lately than usual. But like Ronaldo, give him some time, and he will find a way around that

I don't think he was quiet at all vs Birmingham tbf.

I think he was very good today, surprised by some of the comments in the match thread.

Maybe he should take set-pieces with his left?

I'm only half-joking actually. Wasn't there some famous footballer who used to take free-kicks with a different foot depending what side of the pitch it was on? Or am I imagining this?

Anyone?

IMO he is only left with ''Beckhamising'' his crossing to be the best winger around.

The way he's playing on the right now is almost like how he plays on the left. Carbon copies of each other only one side he uses his left foot to shoot and the other he uses his right foot.

He's kinda ... unique.

And people say the lad ain't worth £30m?

Magical today, deserved a goal. Only downfall was he was selfish on occasion.

His ball in to Rooney was the best cross I've seen this season. Best winger in the PL, definitely.

Nanis stats must be fantastic. And yet he still will not be mentioned for POTY the way Nasri will.

Definitely. He's outstanding... and that cross was fantastic. Assist of the season.

He was pissing about with the Villa defenders tonight. He ripped them apart with such ease every time he went forward. I think he's mastering the art of wing play superbly.

Yet another assist for him and almost a couple goals as well. Let the media continue to ignore him but we know when it comes to Player of the Year, he's there or thereabouts.

Or Bale.

It's purely because people outside of Utd don't rate him as high as he should be, because a lot of them dislike the wee bastard.

Its frustrating when the goals/assists numbers are there in black and white.

Another outstanding game, great cross, constant threat and should have had a penalty.

Yet another top notch performance from him again tonight, great skill & the thing i like most about him & he showed us again tonight is his great work ethic, he keeps going to the end, a fantastic attitude to have. Easily the best winger in the Premier League.

It's ridiculous really, he'll have to do a "Ronaldo" before our media give him the recognition he deserves.

So true. Its criminal really. Very close to being our best player this season.
