Yeah, I don't really have the statistics (and I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them anyway) but I would wager no one else on our team saw more of the ball than Nani today- bad game or not.

Not his day today, and hopefully he'll learn that when it happens you don't have to force the issue (mind you, he still scored!). You could understand why his team mates would get a bit upset because his decision making was a bit of the old Nani when the game was already won, you can't help but being frustrated. But as mentioned here, he's so likely to score or create a goal you just accept that.

Yeah he doesn't seem to give much of a shit when he's being moaned at either, he's a confident lad.

He isn't as good when the crowd is on his back though, as evidenced by the 08/09 season and early parts of the 09/10 season. I think he is a player who thrives when the crowd is behind him and his confidence depends on that. Other players having a go at him doesn't seem to affect him much, which is good to see though.

If he'd have passed more, we could have won 8 or 9 nil. It's easy to overlook because of the scoreline, but if we'd have drawn 1-1 or nil-nil then a lot of you would be slating him.

Although it could be said, that if the scoreline would have been so close, he would've acted less selfishly.

IIRC that's what now 8 goals this season and 6 have been with his left foot

I do wonder how we'll line up when Valencia comes back....

yes, I accept that, although I thought he was greedy throughout the game and not just after we went 3 goals up.
He used to frustrate the hell out of me but I now think he's one of our best players. I think his attitude is very similar to Ronaldo's, but Ronaldo would have probably scored a hat-trick.

I also thought it was interesting how his attacking partners had a go at him multiple times but right before he started the run to score his goal, you can hear a player (O'Shea?) yelling "have a go at it, Nani!" Probably not much to it but atleast they want him to do well and they trust in his ability.

Probably not. He only scored one in all the years he was with us didn't he.

Although I wasn't happy with the greed he showed today, I'm glad he had the balls to keep trying. If Rooney had been sharper with his chance, then Nani would come away with a goal and an assist to show for his efforts. Either way he's continuing his productive streak and is looking like our biggest threat again.

Don't forget he's recently come back from an absence and his accuracy will surely return.

Nani looks unplayable at home.

Players playing at such pace and speed are bound to make more mistakes.

He must have had more shots today than B'ham have in a month or two

That poor Birmingham left back. I don't think I've ever seen a defender dismantled as much as he was today - shame about some of his passing and crossing when it mattered, but it was a very good performance from Nani. He's an incredible asset to have on the counter.

He also seems to be running his own personal goal of the season competition, which has been good to watch. Scored some crackers, this season.

Camera went onto SAF and you could see him say to Mike P he's having a fecking nightmare lol

Give him just a bit of pace, and he turns you inside out. He is not predictable and even on a "bad" day, he is efficient.

Nani's game must be so disheartening for defenders. They start off with the best of intentions and in no time at all they haven't a clue which way to turn when he has the ball. He doesn't even give them the courtesy of a glance, just looks up, decides where he wants to go and that's it.

With regards to the thread title, I actually stated it to my bro in law (who supports Chelsea, incidentally), and he said "Nah, I actually think Valencia is."

Good thing we have both eh?

Heh, looking at the MotD highlights made it look like he had an absolute masterclass. I guess it sums him up at times, because for all the frustration he causes, he still produces some utter magic when needed.

Nani has the priceless Ronaldo-like ability to be 20 yards out from goal, make a yard of space with his speed and trickery, and then fire in a goal from either foot. The winner against Stoke is an example. They are the only wingers who can do it.

What's there to wonder about? Nani left, Valencia right as they did last season. Seems to work just fine. Park/Giggs/Cleverley will rotate throughout the season. People seem to think that moving Nani to the left is a bad thing.

The point still stands.
90 percent of the time he will cut in from the right wing to shoot with his left foot. (or try the killer pass). Doing the same things in almost every game for Bayern.
Against Kaiserslautern he did it again.
Interesting to see that defenders still find it so hard to cope with him.

BTW it was his left foot

He knocked us out of the CL with a thunderbolt from his right foot. The cnut.

Thought it was his left? Corner from the right of the goal and he was waiting unmarked on the edge of the penalty area seemingly with so much time......It all seems like a bad dream to me now

nar... I would never be that braindead to make that post if his goal vs. us was a righty.

Thanks for making me re-live that though Pogue, worst night in years that was. Our best performance in years too :(

Great goal all the same. Players like Ribery can hit one with their wrong foot too, but Nani like Ronaldo is starting to make a habit of it. Its true that the list is this short, for wingers who have a bit of consistancy when it comes to scoring from range with their weaker foot.
