Luis Nani | 2010/11 Performances

Since most of his shots come when he cuts in from the right wing it's to be expected that most of his shots are from his left foot. When Valencia returns he will almost certainly move to the left and will be cutting in to shoot with his right.

haha...I meant it as a compliment because of how good his weaker foot is. It's predictable, but when he catches it perfectly, and curls it just right, nearly impossible to stop.

With only 14 league matches left, I'm thinking Valencia will play in the league when Nani is rested, no way will Fergie mess with the chemistry. He needs to have a serious think about it, Nani has done most of his really good work on the right side...mind you tonight, he and Giggsy were swapping sides from time to time.

Ah! :wenger:

His shots are bloody brilliant, like you say even when the oppo see it coming they can't do anything about it most of the time.

I know I waffle on about this a lot but I don't doubt they'll be playing together when Valencia returns, with Nani running just as much riot on the left. Time will tell, but I think if Tony comes back strong and has a good finish to this season, next season we'll see the two of them switching sides.

Agree completely, the idea of him in this kind of form and a fully fit Valencia playing together is drool worthy.

To be fair, not sure Valencia on the right and Nani on the left is going to create more drool than the current Giggs on the left and Nani on the right.

To be fair, not sure Valencia on the right and Nani on the left is going to better the current Giggs on the left and Nani on the right.

I can see where you're coming from but I disagree, I think the two of them (Nani & Valencia) are the best wing pairing in the league when they're both fit. Giggs is having a fantastic season yet again but I still think they'll be stronger.

Yeah I'd agree. I think in a 4-5-1 especially, against the bigger teams like Chelsea, we need them either side of Rooney.

It's no disrespect to Giggs, he's still wonderful, but we just need their pace. It'd be terrifying.

The only issue I have with Nani on the left is that part of what makes him such a menace on the right is his unpredictability which is partly down to his ability to whip in a cross first time whilst running. The defenders are so wary of this happening, they sit off him abit and then he can come off the flank and strike a shot with his left.

When he plays on the left however, he has to check back and put in a cross which doesn't have the same danger about it as one which is whipped around the defence, Beckham style. Not to mention, he doesn't cross as well on his left (in terms of whipping it in from left flank) and the fact he will be using his right for both crossing and shooting makes him that slightly bit more predictable.

Giggs and Nani is an amazing partnership on the flanks, but if Nani can make the aforementioned issues I've raised look meaningless, Valencia and Nani will indeed be just as droolworthy.

Nani is very effective. Give him just a bit of space, and he creates something. In that respect, he's even better than Ronaldo imo. His goals / assists stat per game must be brilliant

Pin-point precision cross. Was immense today in all areas of his game. Shame he couldn't cap it all off with a goal, which he thoroughly wouldv'e deserved.

Nani in the league this season according to official PL stats

In 20 league appearances:
7 goals
12 assists

No matter how wasteful he seems, he contributes just about every single match.

Agree with all of that.

I actually think Fergie will be reluctant to shift Nani to the left if his present form continues and it might prove difficult for Valencia to get back into the side, when we play 4-4-2 anyway.

Apologies, but I'm going to refer to the MotM site again now...

How has Nani played with Valencia? | Man Utd MotM Stats

I actually thought there would be a bigger difference favouring Nani on the right. Although tonight's match currently counts as a No Votes.

Eh, I think Valencia will easily go back into the squad when he is back because he gives us what we want on the right side - which is a sideline touching winger that is fast, strong and whips in crosses.

Nani just as easily will go down the left side because whoever we use on that side comes inside and has a bit more of a free role than just hugging the touchline and whipping in crosses. With him coming in from the left hand side, will open up his stronger foot as well for shots on goal.

Obviously with the form of Giggs and Nani, it may be difficult for Valencia or Park to get a start but, when we say rest Giggs and Valencia is an option, I don't think SAF will pick Park just so Nani stays down the right. Valencia is too good a winger to not put in if he is fit and ready.

I'm really surprised as to just how influential he has become in our attack this season. His confidence on the ball is something we need, and he's really stepped into his own in filling Ronnie's boots.

For me, Nani's Wingplay is surpassing Ronaldo's, he is beating the crap out of fullbacks much easier, no need for those step over's Nani's steps and feints just kills the crap out of them and his crossing was much better than Ronaldo's from what I recall, no way Ronaldo would have tried a pass like Nani's to Rooney last night, he'd probably spank the ball to row Z.

For me, Nani is easily the best winger now without a doubt, Malouda from the start of the season has been tucked in and has been focusing too much centrally and hasn't been putting in confident displays, Nasri is more of a playmaker, not discrediting him but I see him as a different player from Nani.

Bale has been excellent, shame that he was injured... Nani's better than Bale at finding his chance to go for a long shot which is why I rate Nani superior than Bale... Not much difference though as both players have been great this season.

Young has played a behind the striker role, Albrighton is a prospect but last night as you can see, he tends to fade away and didn't look dangerous playing out wide at times ( But when he plays against inferior players, he does look good )

Seamus Coleman has been an excellent for Everton, don't know where they got him, similar to Bale when he was playing RB, but then just excelled as RW, is totally the big reason why they could afford to lose Pianaar for cheap imo. Still not in the same bracket as Nani, and time will tell.

Not discrediting the other wingers, as I'm too tired to type anymore, didn't get sleep to watch United, and boy was it worth it.

Question is, what does Nani have to do to raise his profile and that he is rated all over Europe

Hopefully Nani isnt asking himself that question.

Because the answer is to go and play for Barcelona or Madrid

I think with Nani the problem is you have a fair number of players that are top class and win games or influence games week in and week out that it's hard for him to get as much news as say a Bale.

Bale along with VDV are it at Spurs right now, Modric to degree but, not as much as the other 2.

For Nani to get known around Europe and such he'll have to literally be the main man like Ronaldo became for us. That though isn't what we need. If goes to Barca or Madrid he still won't be. There are some very good players at both clubs but, overall they get overshadowed by the stars for notoriety.

End of the season when Nani has chipped in with 10+ goals and umpteen assist and raped a few people in the CL, then he'll get some more press. This is his first full year performing fairly consistently. Next year when he does it again, people will stand up and take notice more.

Actually the answer is to put in some match winning performances for uinted in the latter stages of the champions league, Ronnie did and was the name on everybodys lips before he played for either Madrid.

It's amazing to think that before the 7-1 game v Roma in April of 2007, Ronaldo had not scored for United in the Champions League proper, he hasnt stopped scoring since.

Umm well because Real Madrid were interested in Cristiano Ronaldo long before April 2007...

Is there anybody who can cross and deliver such a peach of a ball to their striker in the league? i doubt it..
PS... may be Valencia can :)

To be fair, not sure Valencia on the right and Nani on the left is going to create more drool than the current Giggs on the left and Nani on the right.

I agree with this completely.

Why mess with Nani when he is so fecking fantastic on the right.

Surely better than Valencia has been.

And Giggs OMG.The guy is still killing it at 36/37.

Has Nani toned down his diving/rolling around on the ground recently, or i've just grown so used to his antics that i overlook it now?

He's been brilliant for us. Best winger in the league for me.

Nani can dribble the ball with his back heels better than most players can with the side of their feet

Wayne Rooney said:
It was also a great ball from Nani. That is something he can do really well and it would be great to see him do more of it.

"He has got great dribbling skills but he is also a great crosser of a ball. If he mixes that up he will be really difficult for defenders to mark."

Eh? He already is a handful to mark!

I think that when Valencia returns it'll become a case of playing either man based on the other team. Valencia tends to drive the ball in so that might favour us when we play against taller defenders, whereas Nani floats it more than him. In a 442 I'd say Valencias crosses would be better as it's more likely to fly past the first attacker and sit nicely for the approaching player at the back post

Nani won't be getting dropped.

Some really weird reasoning there too.
