He is very inconsistent though but if he can perform like this consistently he can be a world class player. He can be very frustrating at times and his play acting and lying on the floor rolling around after being hardly touched is something he needs to wipe out of his game to get the respect needed to be named on all those award lists.

He's been consistently productive, sometimes amazing, for about a year. He's only recently had a dip in form.

When Tony V comes back, I think Nani will be just as good, if not better on the left.

I agree. Nani being far better on the right than on the left is a bit of a myth. He's capable of playing brilliantly on either wing.

Though it would be good if Valencia could play on he left a bit so they could switch flanks more. But that's something to think about when Valencia comes back.

Valencia would be completely wasted on the left. He has no left foot, and he doesn't like cutting inside.

He likes playing centrally for Ecuador so there's nothing to suggest he doesn't like playing in those areas, it's just his role while playing on the wing is pretty simple (and effective) - hug the touchline.

And he did get 20-odd minutes on the left v Birmingham last year (with Giggs on the right), so it's not something we should rule out completely.

That was never supposed to happen, someone accidently turned the universe inside-out before noticing the mistake and righting it again.

Very mature performance by Nani.

I won't forget two actions from today, that Rooney-Berba one and when Nani laughed at those three Rovers' players and made a good run.

Loved him today. ;)

Whats his stats now then for the season?. Even with his recent "dip" in form, its a brilliant amount this season alone if i remember properly. This year (2010) he's been amazing, this Nani lad. He might just be the best winger in the league..

Valencia could be excellent in the middle.

Always wants to be a threat, which is commendable.

I just wrote him a song, unfortunately highlighting the less desirable aspects of his game. I've left out the obvious chorus, as everyone knows it. Sing along....

Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry...it's Nani
In every game he takes some knocks
and then reacts like they've cleaned his clock
Don't worry, it's Nani

Ain't got the pace to beat defenders?
Then just fall down end over end-er
Don't worry, it's Nani
The referee say "get up, don't fake"
Just lie there and hold your face
Don't worry, it's Nani

He isn't hurt, he just feels pain
In such a way as can't be explained
Don't worry, it's Nani
And every time Nani goes down
All the other players frown
Don't worry, it's Nani

Fantastic performance by him today, good to see he's shaken off that little blip.

Love the way he can go around the outside deliver such whipped crosses or if he wants, cut in and produce thunderbolt or placed left footed finishes.

Fantastic player. Went into overdrive in the second half. Made chimbonda wish he was injured.

That'll happen more often when Valencia's back, he gets shifted to the left and can hit it with his favored right foot after cutting in. Can't wait

Decent effort. I still prefer 'nani nani nani nani nani nani nani nani football'

Nani with Rafael behind him should be awesome in the years to come. I think they could really do good things. Nani thankfully has won the crowd over and today looks a class act. I think as we as a team get better, he can only get better himself.

Electric today. Always had the beating of his full-back, used Rafael well and as always showed some class end product.

Actually has a greater footballing brain and vision than he gets credit for in some quarters.

Yes but I think his crossing isn't as effective on the run when on the left, just looks at home on the right for me and I'd be reluctant to put him on the left in big games.

Valencia is a great backup to have though and I'd like to see if he can even do a job in midfield against weaker teams as well as a right sided midfielder in a 4-3-3.

The two goals he was involved in at the start of the second half was almost a carbon copy of what Ronaldo always used to do for us, and Chimbonda fell for it twice in the space of 2 mins

His productivity levels are reaching fantastic standards now. Scoring or creating a goal in each game.

I've said it before - his United career has real parallels with Ronaldo. Ronaldo really got his act together part way through his third season - we finished second and won the Carling Cup. Exactly the same with Nani last season.

Then Ronaldo burst onto the big stage with 23 goals and a number of assists. Nani probably won't score that many, but he should be aiming for around 15, I should think.

10 assists and 6 goals in 14 league games?

No other winger comes close to him left or right.

Its 11 assists and 5 goals in the league. He's been involved in 16/35 of our goals this year. Clearly our most important forward player.

He might not score as many goals as Ronaldo (mainly do to him playing not as far up the pitch and more as a traditional winger), but he surely makes up with assists

Nani is a cracking player, 11 PL assists, 5 goals ain't too bad now is it. Two great feet, pace, skill, good crossing, capable of great goals and a brilliant celebration. The only thing I don't like is the rolling about a la Drogba/Torres.

There aren't actually that many good wingers in the league to compare Nani to. There is a lack of good wingers around at the moment.

Actually he should be aiming to consistently be the type of winger Ronaldo was in 2007. He is definitely capable of it.

Nani is a different type of player to Ronaldo. It would be a mistake if he tries to emulate Ronaldo. Physically, they are very different. I can't see Nani scoring over 20 goals in a season. But I can see him making 25 assists which would be a great achievment as well.

Is there a chance of him breaking our assists record this season?

20 with Ronaldo was the most we've ever had in the PL, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him beat that. It'd be a fantastic feat.

If he stays fit then id be very surprised if he didn't comfortably surpass the 20 assists mark, of all our front players Rooney and Berba included Nani plays a key part in our goals more than any other player.

Im genuinely shocked at how underrated he remains outside of United fans even to this day, i listened to your on sky sports the other night and those 'pundits' discussing the game used the typical 'Nani still inconsistent' stereotype crap ive now come to detest with a passion, for christ sake do some basic research you morons theres not a more consistently productive player in the fecking country and hasnt been for months!!!...

It must be a profile thing i mean all it took was a few high calibre performances from Bale and look at the hysteria in the press he's now spoken (laughably) of as one of the best in the world and ridiculous things like that, where as Nanis been performing like this for a month shy of an entire calender year and you barely hear a whisper of admiration for it outside of the club, the recent Fifpro lists and odds for player of the year just astound me to be honest, i really am dumbfounded as to how and why his brilliance goes seemingly unnoticed??

Amazed really.

at what stage will be shed the Nani is too inconsistent to be really good. I'm not saying he's showing Messi/Ronaldo levels of consistency.

But he was in the top 10 in assists in the league last season, despite really being a regular for half of it, and this season he is leading the league in assists with 10(he had 10 all of last season), not to mention the 5 goals to go with that.

Just for comparative purposes...you know that winger down at Tottenham getting nominated for awards and such..he also has 5 league goals, but only 1 assist.

To be honest the moronic English media and opposition fans were the same with Ronaldo until he had that incredible season, spouting the same inconsitant/showhorse comments. I even remember having an argument with some Villa fans before the 06-07 season saying Ronaldo would one day be crowned WPOTY, they all laughed and said he was all show no product and would end up at Besiktas or the like.

I also think the reason he has been unnoticed by Fifa is because they tend to look at season-long stats despite the award being for a calander year and although he had a good season last year, the first 5 months of it will distort his stats. He will have a much better chance if he keeps up his performances until May and although he probably won't crowned player of the year for 2011(Messi/Ronaldo may have that locked), he could definitely be regarded as the worlds best winger.

To be honest if Nani was English the media would be going absolutely ape, saying he will win us the Euros/World Cup etcetc.

Without doubt, even he he was simply British (see Gareth Bale). In addition, our press seems to have a problem with the Portuguese, probably because they keep knocking us out of tournaments.

Very true, but he also doesn't help himself with some of his antics on the pitch. He isn't easily likeable.

Also, he's maybe lacking a big winning goal or stand-out performance in a game of real magnitude. A winner versus Chelsea or away in the CL knockout stages would be good.

He was exceptional vs Arsenal and Bayern last season.

Yeah, but we lost vs. Bayern, so his performance is forgotten. Plus Rooney was stealing the headlines with his injury.

Arsenal, he was sublime, but Rooney again took the headlines, and it was before his run of form. If that performance was now it might "secure" his form, but at the time it was seen as a bit of a freak.

Like against Bayern?
