Like against Bayern?

Yes, he was the matchwinner against Bay...oh, wait :(

There is no denying that Balemania was boosted significantly by his antics vs. Inter. That is why he is currently getting more praise than Nani. What's contestable or hard to understand about that?

What antics? Do you mean the goals and assists?

The media is a fickle bunch, it's the big matches that unfairly decide the outcome of their hype, as they don't watch all matches the same way fans do.

That is one of the main reason why I've often aired my dislike of Peter Schmeichel the pundit. He's the Champions League host here in Denmark, and he spouts so much rubbish it's unreal - it's obvious that he only watches us play now and again and against the big clubs and as a result of this his analyses of our players are often completely wrong and based on a couple matches fresh in his memory.
And the worst part is, the general public, who also doesn't watch United regularly, take Schmeichel and other "experts'" opinions as gospel.

That being said, Bale has been excellent ever since January just like Nani, so he deserves the praise he's been getting.

Well, he did win us the match. I reckon his man of the match showing against a good Bayern side in the quarter finals is far more impressive than Bale's performances against an injury-ravaged and inept Inter side in the knock-out stages. Bale gets all the attention he does because he's British, just imagine if he was fecking English...

By the way, is anyone still willing to say Malouda is better?

Same in Ireland, though let's face it, the likes of Dunphy and Giles are a joke. They seem completely unwilling to accept Nani for the player he is due to his past problems. It's like what he does is invisible to them. In fairness to Shearer and co. on MoTD on Saturday, they did say he was fantastic and has really progressed.

Nani has been better than Bale this season and overall in the calender year, maybe he doesn't completely bum rape defenders as much, but his goals and assists ratio is just magnificent.

I hope, when we go 4-5-1 that we see something like

Berbatov
Rooney - Nani

Took him time to get to grips with the PL just as it took Nani time to realise his potential.Malouda may not be that much better or worse but his goals haul from last season was impressive

Nani is the best winger in the country. People don't rate him because they dont like him and see through his ability. Shame really. Imagine the hype if bale did what nani did to arsenal.

Absolutely, and it can only be an advantage that the footballing nation hasn't picked up on this yet.

For me, there's simply more to him than Bale and Malouda.

I've been very impressed with him this year - the potential was always there, he has now learned to use his head.

What's impressed me most is the way he almost effortlessly gets past players with his tricks, feigns and step-overs. Whenever he has the ball, I just don't feel like he'd lose it.

I was actually thinking - man with Valencia wonder how much more raped Chimbonda would have been? Lets not forget the first goal came from Nani on the left as well.

When Tony V comes back, I think Nani will be just as good, if not better on the left. Whoever plays down the left on the wing for us has a license to roam inside which will suit Nani very well. With this confidence and ability right now and Valencia on the right - it will be scary good.
Iyt seems that way. but imagine if we could play a natural left footer down the left and Nani down the right?

Truth be told though. Valencia-Nani in form is worth having also. :D

I honestly wonder if having a naturally left footed winger will be of any benefit to our system. Other night against Rangers, Giggsy was constantly on the inside - hardly touching the sideline.

Do we play in this manner out of necessity because of the players we have or is it more of a case of on the left right now we have our fullback provide the most width and on the right side that we have the winger mostly hugging the touchline.

In any case - don't think that there is any out and out left footed winger that right now that would be better than Nani on the left that we can get.

What I would like to see though like when Park is on, is both of them switch wings through the game more than they do now. Having wingers on the field that can pop up on either side was effective when we had Ronaldo and Nani switching things up.

Wenger: Nani is 1600 times more intelligent than I am

Nani sees two-horse race
Nani believes Chelsea are the only side capable of challenging Manchester United for Premier League glory.

The title race appears wide open this season with just three points separating the top four teams heading into Christmas.

However, Portugal international Nani has written off the chances of Arsenal and Manchester City by claiming that only Carlo Ancelotti's Blues can stop United.

Chelsea's fine start to the campaign has unravelled and they have struggled for consistency in recent weeks, while City and the Gunners have also suffered some surprise defeats this term.

United remain unbeaten after 16 league games and Nani is confident they will go on to finish top if they stay ahead of the current champions.

"I no longer see anybody winning the Premier League this season outside of Manchester United or Chelsea. Hopefully, it will be United," he said.
Standing out

Red Devils winger Nani has emerged as one of the most effective attacking players in English football over the past season-and-a-half.

He feels the departure of compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2009 gave him the chance to flourish after a frustrating first couple of years at Old Trafford.

"It is easier for me to stand out now that Cristiano Ronaldo has left the club," admitted the 24-year-old.

"He is a fantastic player who got all the attention and deservedly so. I loved playing alongside him and we got on well together.

"But it is also true to say that, when he left United, it freed up space for other players to shine.

"When he left, I saw an opportunity to demonstrate my qualities and to show the people at United what I can do. That is exactly what I have done."

Special

Nani has learned to combine his attacking instincts with better defensive discipline and he credits Sir Alex Ferguson for turning him into a more complete player.

He revealed: "Sir Alex Ferguson explained to me the importance of defending well and said I would end up being more dangerous in attack as a result. It is the truth."

Nani hopes to one day compete with the likes of Ronaldo for prestigious individual accolades.

He said: "I know I can become a better player and my aim now is to get on the list of nominees for next year's Ballon d'Or - the European Player of the Year prize.

"I want to leave my mark and hope after I retire that people will say Nani was a great player. I really want to do something special in my lifetime."

Wenger hits back at Nani
Arsene Wenger has sarcastically mocked Nani after the Manchester United winger dismissed Arsenal's Premier League title credentials.

The Gunners sit second in the table ahead of Monday's London derby with rivals Chelsea at Emirates Stadium and they have topped the division at times this season.

But Nani believes United, who lead Arsenal by two points with a game in hand, only need to worry about the challenge of defending champions Chelsea.

Gunners boss Wenger, a manager since beginning his career with Nancy in 1984, is not impressed by the Portugal international's comments and he has implied his side are more than capable of winning their first league title since 2004.
Shame

"Everybody has a different opinion in this league and nobody is perfect," the 61-year-old former Monaco and Grampus Eight chief told a press conference broadcast on Sky Sports News HD.

"We live in a society where everybody knows everything and it is a shame to say, 'I don't know'.

"I personally don't know who will win the league and I have managed 1600 games. If Nani knows he must be 1600 times more intelligent than I am."

1600 times more intelligent because Wenger has managed 1600 games?

Oh I see what he's... no, I don't get it. Bizarre.

No he hasn't. Wenger was asked the direct question during the course of 15-minute press conference and dealt with it quite amusingly (a muffled titter ran around the room). He usually handles press events in a fun way in contrast to Ferguson's sourly unpleasant efforts where junior reporters are scared to ask basic questions.

And saves his Monty Python like hysterics for the touchline instead?

Junior reporters amusing press conference of the year award.

Congratulations on that. Your ability to continually get one up on United is clearly something to be admired Pete.

Pfft... Depends on mood and questions, but Fergie's had a fair few press conferences where he's been amiable and funny.

I used to rate you Pete, but the last couple of years you've started too look like a grudge-filled old fecker.

Before I get a volley of sarcasm aimed at me, no I don't expect this to affect you ;P

"journalists" are a cancer on the game anyway, dont see why you should be nice to them when theyd just as soon ruin you in the papers if it would get a read.

I've always thought that the true test of a manager's metel is whether or not he can make journalists give amused titters at press conferences; if he's extra special friendly with the juniors then that's just a bonus really. I'd happily swap all of Fergie's enormous trophy haul for a more pleasant press conference atmosphere; Arsenal are top of the league imho, top of the most important league that is, top of the Barclays Press Conference Amusing Titter Don't Scare The Juniors Premier League. Well done Arsene!

Maybe not the exact response, but I did assume a sarcastic "oh noes, this ruins my day :'(" was forthcoming, like a bad McIntyre punchline.
Before exercising yourself with the predictability of the response you might have addressed the banality of the original post.
