Lucas da Silva | Signed for PSG

People writing him off based on the Olympics are just silly.

Lucas was great against GB in the friendly and then somewhat average during the Olympics, albeit under difficult circumstances and probably with his mind elsewhere due to a big move to a new country and club at the age of 19.

As well as that people were creaming over videos of his general play before we were linked to him. I'm not sure why anybody wouldn't be excited about the prospect of such a talented 19 year old joining the club.

The only reservation I have is that he can't play CM but who knows we may yet sign another player who can.

Bob's a good friend of SAF.

But after he fecked up the Sniejder "quotes" last year I can't see SAF giving him any inside scoop.

I'd say he was back in the good books.

Cass interviewed Fergie and got him to confirm interest in Lucas, RVP and Baines on the 20th of July.

Fergie revealed it himself on the 23rd.

I'm thining just guess work from Cass based on Fergie not being at the game tomorrow and Moura being in Manchester for his next game.

The Van Persie part of the article isn't even pretending not to be pure guess work.

He's looked pretty good at the Olympics from what I've seen. Beats players with ease and has a frightening burst of pace when he picks up the ball. Plus he drops into the space really well (although most of the defending has been shocking).

Or are people expecting him to start every game and be on par with someone like Neymar?

Nothing being reported in Brazil yet though.

Yep. I find that strange.

This sort of article isn't a surprise given Nick Coppack talked about Fergie not being at the game tomorrow and with it being a Sunday the papers want to fill the back pages with headlines to encourage people to buy (though with the Olympics going on and what has happened today there's no shortage of news to put on the front and back pages).

It being Bob Cass means that it'll be paid attention to more than most given he's supposedly a good friend of Fergie's but whether what he said is true, we'll see in due course.

He's been bollocked by SAF last season for printing crap and was on tour with the team a few weeks ago, he would be a brave man to make a story like this up again after SAF ''forgave'' him.

I have to say with SAF not going on tour there's a good chance the Lucas story might be true, we shall see soon enough....if we got both then it would be the best summer ever for transfers.

This newbie makes a good point. I doubt Cass would've the balls to do something again to piss Fergie off.

Big call though to include an exact date when the medical is taking place. Sigh.

Not sure if it was the Mirror or Daily mail that said he was definitely signed a few weeks back so will take it with a very small pinch of salt. Major wankathon time though if in the tiny chance it ever came true!

If we - after this summer end up with Van Persie, Kagawa, Lucas and Powell - I will consider it one of the best transfer summers in my near 30 years as a United-fan

But no I don't believe it - yet

Does it beat Hargreaves, Anderson, Nani and Tevez? Throw in a left back and it probably would do.

This. Below is Lucas against New Zealand. He certainly didn't set the world on fire, but he certainly wasn't awful like some people seem to be implying. He was generally tidy in possession, made a few nice runs, took too much out of a couple of those runs, showed his incredible speed on a couple of occasions and threw in a few nice flicks for good measure. All this in a game were Brazil generally just coasted through. I also think it needs to be pointed out that this is the only game it is fair to judge him on in terms if the Olympics so far. If you were to judge Neymar based solely in this game I'm sure you wouldn't be looking to buy him for 40-50 million.

In terms of the Daily Mail story, it would only be right to treat it with some scepticism, but at the same time I think the Daily Mail were the first to seriously link us to Lucas and to report the delegation travelling to Brazil.

Obviously there will be rumours about Nani but I wouldn't fret about it. I don't think we're looking to sell. Not unless the player has said something.

I can't think of another teenager who cost more than Lucas would (if it goes through, of course). Can anyone else?

It's not THAT baseless though is it. He's taking ages to sign a contract, he's made a comment or two about achieving elsewhere and he could get more money there too. I would rather keep Nani than Young/Valencia but the former is a new buy and the latter is a new #7. It's all a bit strange.

we're going to dump nani aren't we. if lucas is going to take over a winger spot, why can't we sell young instead of nani.

Because he was signed last year. All of us would rather keep Nani, but if anyone goes, it will be him. Let's hope he stays and Lucas comes.

Another thing to keep in mind with regards to this transfer is that Valencia just turned 27, so he's got another 2 years at the top of his game I'd say max, before he starts degrading as a player.

I don't expect him to make an immediate impact on our team, he doesn't look ready to leave Brazil.. but he *looks* to be coming so lets see what he can do, and be patient even if the fee is £30million.

Can't see Nani leaving just because of Lucas, it's pretty normal to have four wingers so it doesn't mean anything for Nani if he comes. Would be gutted if he left.
