I could be wrong, but I seem to recall people saying their fans wanted rid, especially if they can get upwards of 20m+ non?

Agree with the rest of your post tho, nice have assurances he won't go all twitter mad til his bench-warming Olympic session is over

I meant that they were seeking to impress their fans with their strength in resisting lesser offers and looking for a bigger payout, projecting strength in general, showing they're in control.

Standard stuff, teams are always acting like they never had any real interest in a sale if one doesn't go through, to make it appear that they're having their way 100% at all times, usually while trying to drive up the price at the same time. Surely no club is dumb enough to buy that sort of posturing though.

Inter Milan director leaves Brazil as Italian press admit Manchester United are ahead in Lucas Moura race

The Lucas Moura news is coming fast over the past few days, yesterday we heard that his parents had told Sao Paulo he wanted to join Manchester United and then later there were rumours, later scotched, that a deal and wages had been agreed with Inter Milan.

Sections of the Italian press got a little excited and ahead of themselves meaning they had to then backtrack greatly, Inter Milan hadn't only not completed a deal - the likelihood was they hadn't even made a bid. Gazzetta confirmed this earlier today and now detail the figures that Inter Milan would be happy to pay for Lucas Moura.

The figures are €20m rising to €25m dependent on appearances and success, it's not close to what Manchester United are reported to have offered so it's a wonder why Inter are bothering unless they are willing to go high above that. For reference, with the exchange rate more favourable to the pound than it has been for several transfer windows, the first figure translates to a relatively modest £15.8m, even the full amount, assuming all targets are met, is 'just' £19.8m.

Marco Branca, the technical director Inter Milan sent to Brazil, returned today and there are no announced plans for him to return. Manchester United are thought to still have representatives in the country and Sao Paulo vice president, Jesus Lopes, was quoted earlier by Lancenet as saying "I was with Juvenal yesterday (Wednesday) and today (Thursday). Just to sit down to negotiate with Manchester, but we were not satisfied with the amounts."

Not only are the Italian press now conceding that Manchester United are ahead in the race but they also seem very worried about reported interest from Anzhi.

Gotta admit I'm mostly ignorant about Lucas. I've not seen him at club level. Seen a couple of sub appearances from him against mostly average teams in this Olympics and he's not looked particularly special. You shouldn't judge people on tournaments I know but my first impressions of the lad are underwhelming.

He's looked ok in this match - still think there's as much chance of Suarez winning the Nobel Peace prize than us signing a player in this price range at the moment

Based on what I've seen we're not missing out on all that much. Denilson looked better at Lucas' age and look at how he panned out.

Shouldn't judge players on tournaments too much really. If not, Messi, Gerrard and Rooney will be terrible players based on that. That said, i would prefer v.Persie than Lucas if i have a choice personally

I simply cannot see what he'd offer us as a winger/wide attacker that Young/Nani/Valencia doesn't do better.

What's his goalscoring record like in Brazil?

If we're not going to buy a CM, I'd prefer us to spend £30+ million trying to sign Muniain than Lucas.

Maybe this news could have some bearing as to where Lucas might end up!!!

Inter Milan sells stake to Chinese investors

Inter Milan has said that a group of Chinese investors is to become its second-largest shareholder.

In a statement, the Italian football club said the group would acquire a stake but that the Moratti family would retain control.

Internazionale Holding also said it would build a new stadium in partnership with a unit of China Railway Construction by 2017.

The Serie A club is looking to increase its presence in Asia.

It is thought that Chinese interests will take a 15% stake in the famous Italian club, which won the Scudetto and Champions League in 2010.

The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but there are reports the agreement is worth nearly $70m.

Inter Milan did not confirm the identity of the investors but it is widely reported by Chinese media that China Railway Construction Group is the key player in the deal, said BBC World Service Chinese editor Raymond Li.

The BBC's Alan Johnston in Rome said that the deal is being seen in Italy as just one more sign of the economic times - an Italian institution with money worries turning for help to the limitless resources of a rising China.

I wouldn't be too disappointed if we didn't buy him to be honest. He links up well with Rafael but we have enough quality wingers at the club.

It's not so much what he is now, but what SAF feels we can make him. He may be overpriced for a player of his age but we must trust the management team who believe that this lad could be a world beater.

If we don't sign him he's shit and over-rated.

Thought this has been published maybe two days ago and we have a debate that the Chinese investors will only help fund the new stadium.

Didn't really get a chance to show much really as he came on with Brazil leading 3-2 and probably under orders not to lose the ball stupidly. He was tidy in posession with one small burst and shot that rose about a yard over and one good cross to the back post. He looked composed/mature for a nineteen year old. I like the look of him, the muppet in me wants him signed.

We wouldn't need to spend £30m+ to sign Muniain as he has a release clause of €35m which is £27.7m.

We absolutely do not need Muniain though.

Bob Cass is reporting that we've agreed a £30m fee for Lucas and will also complete a £20m fee for RVP..

As it's Daily Fail not gonna post link!!

Three wingers isn't really enough for a whole season. I know we have emergency cover in Welbeck or Kagawa for example, but four wingers would be better.

He's far more direct than Young so would offer something different on the left. Would love this signing tbh, far more than any of the others we've been linked to.
