He's not considered because his style isn't suited to the role in Menezes' setup, in my opinion at least. The only role that he is suited to is the one Hulk's occupying, and obviously Menezes has decided it's time to finally give Hulk his chance. He's one of the overage players so it's hardly a surprise he's being picked either.

It just seems like a long-winded way of simply saying Lucas isn't good enough. I don't think it says much about Lucas' quality that he can't get ahead of Hulk, personally.

Yeah I think that's definitely the case. You can't criticise him for not being started above a player 6-7 years his senior playing in the same position. Obviously it's frustrating for British United fans that he's on our doorstep but we can't see him play, but there it is.

On the bright side, maybe the fact that he's not getting game-time in this competition will prevent some of the more muppetish club boards (Madrid, City, PSG) from coming in and inflating his price. I imagine Fergie's over the moon that he's on the bench letting Neymar and Oscar soak up all the press attention instead of attracting further press attention during negotiations.

I really hope we get him, he's the first attacking player I've got quite excited about us signing in the last few years. Having seen him in last year's Copa America (and obviously the mandatory youtube videos) I'm convinced he'll be a star if Fergie gets him.

:wenger: Inflate his price? Is it even possible anymore?
 
How is this thread still running? its the 31st and we haven't signed him so either we'll get him before the window closes and pay over the odds or we'll decline to offer more.
Either way we put all our eggs in one basket, so we'll probably go another season without getting midfield re-enforcement.

SAF bigging this one up together with RVP is also rather smelly.

Not really. Even the likes of City and PSG wouldn't pay more than €40m for an unproven Brazilian talent. Neymar will probably go for less than that and he's supposed to be much better.

too quiet, either we have signed him with an NDA in place like Powell and Kagawa.

Or he'll give up some of his percentage which has always been an option. Or there is always the possibility that the deal could be all but done for all we know.

Have many potential midfield transfer targets gone elsewhere so far this window? If the deal is as dead as you reckon it is then why will it hamper our chances of getting a midfield signing?
 
Isn't that clause with the economic rights or something now activated? Sao Paulo get less money because the lose 10% in the player's rights, wasn't it? Looking less likely now.

If Luke really wants to come here, he doesn't have to honour that clause and take the financial hit himself rather than St Paul.
 
Well it was pretty obvious nothing was ever going to happen while the Olympics were going on with Lucas being involved.

Even if a deal were agreed, I doubt we'd hear about it until he was done with his international commitments, both for the sake of having to do a medical and agree personal terms and to avoid any distractions for Lucas/Brazil.

This has the feeling of one that will go down to the wire if it happens at all.

Him being on the bench looks a justified decision.
 
Lucas...has a lot of pace. He just overdid it there and lost the ball at the touchline after some good work initially.

I actually quite liked the updates, as I was more interested in his performance than the other 90% of that thread.
 
Sao Paulo admit Manchester United's interest in Lucas Moura has helped to instigate talks over a new contract, but discussions will only be held once the midfielder has finished playing at the Olympics.

Moura has reportedly been the subject of a bid from United in recent weeks, with Sir Alex Ferguson having confirmed his interest in the teenager.

A potential move to Old Trafford appeared to be off late last month after the player's agent stated United are reluctant to meet Sao Paulo's £30million valuation.

The 19-year-old's representative Wagner Ribeiro claims he had been instructed to keep negotiations with United open, but Sao Paulo do not want to lose Moura.

He is already on a long-term deal with the Brazilian club and vice-president Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes plans to arrange fresh terms once Moura is back from the London Games.

"When there was a round of negotiations with Manchester United the situation changed a bit and Sao Paulo started to admit the possibility of changing his contract," Lopes told Globo Esporte.

"But that will only happen after the Olympics as the presence of the player will be needed. We won't change the way we do things."

Meanwhile, as of 1st August, Moura's percentage of his economic rights has risen to 30% from 20% and he has also had a slight bump in his monthly salary.

Looks like another case of let's use United for a new contact, he would have done good under Fergie, though.
 
I don't think this changes anything. His agent talks a lot it's been on and off for the past few weeks now.
 
Its rather comical watching posters hang on every scrap of a comment they can find to draw ridiculous conclusions from. Why not just wait and see what happens.
 
That's the thing about being us: every team we try to negotiate with looks for daft money which we almost never play.
 
Sao Paulo probably think hmmm - we sell him now and we get 70% of the transfer fee

or give him a new contract, increase his wages but diminish his 30% and we can sell him in the winter or next summer for a better price.

it comes down to Lucas as well...

personally i think this deal is dead - I think the player is up for the move based on what I've read and he and his agent stand to do better after the august deadline

I think Sao Paolo probably think (seeing as his contract is long 2015) they can wait a year and still do well

it might mean offering a little bit more but that's not united's style
