Last season City wanted to throw millions on Alexis Sanchez but he was not willing to move,so its all down to player mindset. Its look like Utd are not attractive anymore why can't a player be hell bent and want to join Utd like players do when Barca and Madrid comes calling, its sorry state of affairs.

Kagawa was.

Isn't he supposed to be the best young player in the world? Neymar is the other one I hear about being hyped up that much but Gotze has proven himself in a bigger league I guess.

he is really class, but honestly I thought ozil was better at werder than what gotze has shown on average at dortmund and while they are different players it will be interesting to see if marco reus outshines gotze next season.

regardless, i don't think he'll move in the next two years as he has to cement himself into the german first XI for 2014 and moving affect that seeing as he's not a nailed on starter right now.

Kagawa was.

exception to the case?

I think that United are still attractive, at least in certain areas in the world where EPL football is still tops. Unfortunately these areas (Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia, Japan etc) aren't producing the quality players at the amounts we need + we are finding it hard to compete with the likes of PSG, Shitty etc whose budgets are much bigger then ours.

Sad part is knowing United may never sign another Ronaldo/Rooney type due to the cost these days. Hazard might be that new example. In today's market, young starlets like Ronaldo/Rooney circa 2004 would cost north of the 35m pricing out all but a handful of clubs. And with the wages tossed by clubs like City and PSG, or the tax breaks in Spain, it further prevents a club like United or Arsenal from getting a top prospect. Instead, the club goes for a talented player on a level below (i.e. Kagawa). Nani would probably cost 30m coming from Portugal at age 21 in today's market plus 5m/year in wages. It's madness.

Football isn't what it was ten years ago, thought we already knew this? When players move nowadays, the first concern is money. Everything else, for the most part, takes a back seat in priority. Just how it is now.

I don't think Kagawa is a level below.

The only way round it is to target them when they're 15-16 years old. Which we're seeing with the likes of Janusazj, Pereira and Daehli (I reckon I spelled, at most, one of those names right)

Of course, the tricky bit is holding onto them, when their agents see the chance to kick off a bidding war.

Probably because it pisses down nearly every day here and they lose half of their wage in tax. Therefore we have to offer significantly higher wages than everyone else, a la City, to tempt them over.

TBH i was born in Manchester and i work and live in Manchester, yet if i had the opportunity to go and work and live in Spain, i would be off like a shot!
Remember footballers only work for about a day, maybe 2 at a stretch, a week, the rest of it is freetime. Where you would you prefer to spend your freetime, Manchester with it's unpredictable rain or the sun soaked Spanish cities?

The answer is in why we holiday there, and they don't holiday here! :D

Players train everyday. In Italy they train twice a day (morning and afternoon) while in the EPL some teams (I think United included) train only in the morning to avoid burn outs.

Its actually hilarious the cash PSG are throwing about the place when in reality the leagues standard is below that of the player they are looking at.

Its almost like Real Madrid playing in League 2. Do these players not think to themselves id love a proper challenge.

another way to look at it....easy league keeps them fresh for europe (not saying ligue 1 is easy because it is quite physical).

If you re still hoping to find a job in spain, you couldn t have chosen a worse time to do it..

Lot of people talking about the tax breaks in Spain but that loophole was closed last year to the best of my knowledge. The new tax rate for top earners is the same or higher than in the UK.

True.

Thats going to be citys plan with their new academy IMO. They will be hovering up all the best talent. Apparently they are no longer subject to the 90 min rule because their academy is category one. I cant find anything on Uniteds application yet. A few others in the england have got awarded it to.

I've never really followed one of these threads before. Does everyone always break into mass hysteria/depression over every tiny piece of news, even when it blatantly changes nothing?

For example, a club who's manager is mates with Sao Paulo, conveniently show an interest in a Sao Paulo player that another club wants to sign...so what?

I agree, the reports say he's signed for x club and within a day, either his agent or the club deny it, this jut looks like negotiation tactics

Not everyone, but enough to make the thread worth reading if only for the entertainment value.

Yes. It doesn't help that random people looking for attention can broadcast their "inside scoop" information to the world.

City's new academy facilities will enable them do nothing that we can't also do and despite their huge investments they will still be behind us in certain areas of youth development.

Wow. That's quite a big deal. The same must apply to our academy, surely?

Can anyone confirm/deny?

I don't understand what a "category one" academy is, but given the amount of time and money United has spent on youth development during Fergie's tenure, I'd guess that the berties have a lot of catching up to do.

Yes, it's been back and forth, with posters views swaying with every tit-bit of information, which is every other day. It's been completely mental and you have missed nothing, save for a thousand flip-flops by a few.
