Sounds like PSG have come in late to this, his info was probably right at the time he got it.

Yep. That's the genius behind any of these predictions. If they don't go through you can just say "things changed, I was right at the time". We had a ITK on here who used to say the same if I remember correctly.

I bet Cass will be sat home now thinking "whops i did it again" #pillock

The reaction towards him as been well ott, he's just going off what he's told, if you were a journalist and someone from United told you it was virtually a done deal would you keep it to yourself or get paid for writing the story?

To a point i agree but i just feel he was gullible with believing it was a done deal, he is not exactly a rookie reporter and bearing in mind what happened last year he should've been a bit more cautious in his report.

Reading on twitter ( yes I know, might as well look at my tea leaves ) that we're now eyeing up Isco as an alternative. I must say that I would be delighted with that as the lad looks superb when I've seen him play. What's more his release clause is 16m euro. That's value.

Not really Fergie's style to sign an alternative player if he can't land the player he really wants.

Was gonna start a thread to ask the question but might as well do it here. Can anyone ever remember Fergie signing someone different, when his main target falls through?

Ronaldo? Bought after failing to land The Goofy One.

Dwight Yorke after Kluivert after Batistuta?

Didn't we first try and get Kluivert before landing Yorke?

It's actually happened quite often in my head at least. Mostly with strikers during the 90s.

Andy Cole

Not really the same. If he had always known Cole was available then I am sure he would have been first choice. It really did seem mental that Newcastle would sell after the season Cole had.

Senna after the initial Hargreaves turn down, although we decided to pull the plug on that in the end.

Right little bunch of United historians on this page.

Wouldnt Lucas himself be an alternative to Hazard? I can't imagine if we'd have gotten Hazard we'd be pursuing Lucas at all.

I think it's always the case that we have a position in mind that requires strengthening and then we have 3 players in mind in an order. If Fergie can't get any of them then he won't sign someone just for the sake of it, but if he can get one of the players identified then he's happy.

Obviously this doesn't account for when that special player becomes available or when someone else makes a move and we have to go earlier than we'd like, but overall I think there are always alternatives, it would be poor planning not to, surely.

This very thread as your answer.

After failing to capture Hazard he's now trying to land Lucas. I think.
