Why can't we compete? In terms of commercial deals we're fine. We've only had one not great season last season. Why can't we compete? How many people actually believe that?

I didn't say we couldn't compete.

I doubt the PSG story but God they'd be formidable with him. Lucas and Lavezzi on the wings, Pastore through the middle and Ibrahimovic up front, you could hardly find a better front four in Europe.

I think we can compete as long as Rooney stays fit and plays most games. Without him I worry, Welbeck will get goals but he is prolific. It is Chicharito who worries me. I would have hoped he would score in pre-season, but he has looked really rusty. Rooney will have to hit the ground running against Everton. When you look back to 99, you didn't worry if we had a striker missing, Yorke, Cole, Ole and Teddy would all deliver the goods.

Is Pastore a top player? And Lucas from all accounts is fairly raw. Doesn't sound as good as City, United, Barca or Real's front four if that's the case (not really been following them).

Pastore is a very good player, Zlatan's obviously class, and Lavezzi is a fine player.

Lucas is raw, and I don't know that much about him bar what I've seen in the Olympics/read.

However, I'd argue few teams can better a front four of Rooney/Kagawa/Valencia/Nani, for example.

Of course I exaggerated but in terms of potential I think they might be better than us in a couple of years, that's of course if Lavezzi, Pastore and Lucas fulfil their potential.

Ah, right. I actually don't know how good two of those are as of now. Just heard of their potential that's why I was surprised. Does sound good potential. However, even if we don't get Lucas Fergie will get a gifted attacker with dribbling ability. He only went for Lucas when we missed out on Hazard so he clearly feels we need a player like that. Although your next choice tends to be your next choice for a reason :)

3rd player like this that we're seriously linked with. Nasri, Hazzard and Lucas have similar qualities in that they can dribble and carry the ball into the box with pace.

so who's next on he list? muniain? not sure why he wasn't higher on the list, the bollocks that lad, no work permit needed, and european tested.

Lavezzi is 27, so I think he has much more potential to reach. I dont see that front four being better than ours in a few years. Rooney and Ibra are maybe on the same level, but Rooney has years on Ibra. Nani is better than Lavezzi, same with Kagawa and Pastore. Lucas is the only one who I can see having the potential to being better than Valencia, but PSG dont even have him yet.

what about a front four of RvP, Wazza, kagawa, Nani.

would be on par with madrid and only behind barca.

I was hugely impressed by what I saw of Muniain against us but that's all I've seen of him so it's hard to judge. Definitely looked special from that viewing.

Yup. From what I've read and heard about the other two, Nasri is a bit different from them. I guess Kagawa would have filled the gap Nasri would have filled but with less playmaking and more end product.

my goodness Bob Cass is going to get another absolute bloody rollicking from Fergie.......can't wait, hope its caught on camera

I think Fergie would be more annoyed if Cass was leaking/breaking genuine transfers - Cass making a fool of himself is hardly going to upset Fergie is it?

If Lucas decides he'd rather just take the money and play in one of europes weeker leagues then maybe he was never the player for us in the first place!

According to Sky Italia, PSG are bidding 45m Euros for him. Yikes!

I just wondered are PSG a club that will develop a player, Lucas is someone who needs developing, or are they a club who expect him to be the finished article? I just get the impression that like City they sign players because they can. If I was him I would be looking at what this club did to make players like Ronaldo and Beckham into world stars. Unfortunately money quite often talks rather than ambition.

ancelotti is a superb gaffer and ronaldinho didn't do so poorly at psg.

If true i guess we will see what drives young lucas

Not really, Sao Paulo have been asking for a ludicrous fee from the start and we were never going to pay the asking price. If they're not going to drop the price then somewhere like PSG might be his only option.

Would be a shame at PSG since Lavezzi is better on the right than the left and Lucas already plays there

I think you're giving PSG too much credit there, Ronnie was going to bloom regardless of where he played

not arsed if lucas signs here either way.

lately though i'll admit i've gotten a bit more muppet-ish over rvp coming here.

I feel the same way. Its not like he is Sneijder :smirk:

We're well stocked on the wings and as enticing a prospect as Lucas is, I think he would be a luxury signing rather than someone we desperately need (e.g. Modric, Sneijder etc.)

Im not so sure about RVP though. He is pushing 30 and his track record in regards to injuries is pretty poor. Is it a coincidence that he plays his best/most consistent football the year before he forces a move away from the gooners?

After all these rumours and stories about us signing him it will feel like a blow if he ends up moving to another club now. Especially after Fergie himself came out and said we have made a bid.

Fergie never said we made a bid explicity, just that we were interested.

And i was really looking forward to watching him this week with the knowledge he was going to be a United player....

feck Lucas, not a touch on bebe anyway.

If we do sign him clearly he's better than bebe.

we've all done that over the last few years watching our "next signing" but the 3-4 year signings we almost never got our player after a protracted bidding/contract saga. its normally done and dusted quick or else we either end up losing out to another club or end up not paying the asking price.

If we're gazumped by a €45m PSG bid there isn't a lot we would do about it, Glazers or otherwise.
