I've never seen him play. Anyway, you have to laugh at this place...one good performance and everyone's decided he's the next Meredith, only to have a quick u turn as a consequence of some mediocre ones.

Welcome to Redcafe.

Weird. I'd be more delighted if he was telling the truth

Kevin really doesn't want Lucas to join us. I don't get why he keeps continuing to post in this thread. 27 posts, most of them negative.

Brazilian press reports have denied any news linking Lucas with Utd.They think its not happening.
Yess :devil::devil:

We need to hire Zlatan's agent to be our transfer negotiator. Read Zlatan's book, he (Raiola) is brilliant at what he does, which is being an evil cnut of a dealbreaker.

That said, I hope we do not get this one OR v Persie. Do not need.

I didn't want us to sign him, but rather him than van Persie. :nervous:

Delighted.

^ to news its over

Why would his agent come out now and say this? I wouldn't hold him to it personally. Negotiations are cut throat. It's not yes yes yes yes yes and yes....I don't think it's that predictable what is going to happen.

Think back to many of our transfer sagas of the past years: whenever shit like this comes out it almost made the caf speculate on smokescreens/negotiation tactics, whereas in the end it always meant the player either staying put or moving to somewhere else. The exception was the Tevez saga.

Don't read too much into this and take it at face value: the deal's off.

Isn't that exactly the reason Fergie pulled out of the Hazard deal? Not the transfer fee, but the fees to the agent? We are not going to indulge him and rightly so.

Good. We should not give into stupid demands of agents.

Onto the Dembele/Baines threads!

Lucas has reiterated his desire to stay at Sao Paolo. It's over guys

We don't need him and certainly not at that price. Hope United tell them to feck off. Today.

Would be funny if Madrid signed him after all this. Probably the most predictable thing to happen ever.

Let it happen.

It's over lads. We won't improve our bid, neither we should, and we won't even repeat our previous bid by the look of it. Sao Paulo thought they could squeeze even more money out of us but it won't work.

Yep, stop dreaming guys. Unless they take a step back, lose face and decide to ask us whether the previously rejected bid still stands, this deal will not go through. We have shown before that we refuse to budge when it comes to the limits and values we have set ourselves.

No more bids from us.

Him being on the bench looks a justified decision.

I think this one is dead in the water.
Yup.

Inter will get him.

It seems nowadays that before the actual transfer takes place, it has at least been agreed 5 times in the papers and 10 times on twitter beforehand... and even then the end result is that the move is to an entirely different club.

Funny stuff.

Heh heh heh Bob Cass lying... delighted.

It got annoying a long time ago. I don't get why he keeps posting in a thread about someone he clearly hates. He has made his stance clear on this.

ESPN understands Manchester United are to set clinch the £30 million signing of Brazil's Lucas Moura.

Lucas Moura: Highly-rated in his native Brazil
• Sao Paulo deny Lucas reports
• Transfer Blog: On the Move

Moura, 19, has been strongly linked with a move to United and their rivals Manchester City, while Inter Milan have recently been suggested as an interested party.

This week, Sao Paulo moved to play down speculation that the winger was poised to join City, and also rejected claims that an offer had been received from Inter.

United are now the favourites to sign Moura, who, it is understood, will receive 30% of the transfer fee.

A source told ESPN: "Sir Alex is keen to push through the signing of the young winger and United will have to pay £30 million to get him."

Lucas is currently representing Brazil at the 2012 Olympics, with the forward coming on in the second half of his side's 3-2 quarter-final win over Honduras.

United also remain in the hunt for Arsenal's Robin van Persie, although it remains to be seen if the Red Devils will meet the Gunners' asking price of offers in excess of £20 million.

Soccernet reporting this now.. only a good sign.

It makes no sense for Kevin to be happy if we fail to get Lucas. Fergie thinks we need that type of player, he's not going to change his mind, so even if we don't get Lucas we'll move on to a similar player (albeit one who is second choice). You'd think fans would trust Fergies judgement by now.

They don't even trust him not to run the club into the ground for an extra few quid ffs.

Kevin is a bit of an idiot to be fair. Well, him or Kelvin, I always confuse them, but I'm happy enough to go out on a limb here.

To those who have seen him a decent amount, and I recognize there must be very few, is he actually a great dribbled or not? Some people have mentioned that he is pretty one footed but in terms of natural ability how good a dribbler do you see him becoming? Would you say he's as gifted as Nani in terms of manipulating the ball?

He's a quality dribbler and has insane potential. People basing his future ability from the Olympics alone are being silly, he's looked as good if not a better talent as Neymar over the past year. If we get him, we are getting a star. Very similar to Nani's ball control and retention, and explosive acceleration with or without the ball. It would be very exciting, sometimes talents like these don't come around too often, it's worth the purchase just to see if he can fulfill that potential.

Nothing happened today.

Another rumour bites the dust. There was no chance of it happening until the Olympics are over.

Agreed. To back your point remember we went for Sanchez last summer, after missing out on Nasri. Then again for Hazard this summer, even after signing Kagawa. Lucas is the latest in that line of players, and all it suggests to me that SAF is after different types of players for a less predictable style of play.

So the serious intention is clearly there to buy a versatile wide forward, comfortable in possession, who can cut inside offering a goal threat and creativity from central areas. Bit more Barca like in our thinking in my view.

It's good that there are denial all round from every party concerned. The De Gea deal was exactly the same until United announced the deal and we saw the picture of him with the white sheets at Bridgewater

Sky Sports understands Manchester United are poised to win the race for Brazilian winger Lucas Moura.

United have been chasing the Sao Paulo winger all summer and have already seen one bid rejected for the 19-year-old.

The likes of Inter Milan, Paris Saint Germain and Real Madridhave all been credited with an interest in Moura, but it appears United are in pole position to land the highly-rated starlet.

A fee is believed to have been agreed between United and Sao Paulo and the Old Trafford outfit have been given the green light to hold talks with the player.

Sir Alex Ferguson remained behind from United's pre-season trip to Norway for Sunday's friendly with Valerenga with the reason for his absence thought to be to push through a deal for Moura.

Should United clinch the signing it would be a massive boost for Ferguson as the wide-man is regarded as one of the brightest young talents to emerge from Brazil in recent years.

Moura is currently on Olympics duty with Brazil and is expected to feature for Brazil in their semi-final against South Korea at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

That sounds very positive. I've seen his incredible pace. If he has Nani's technical ability then that could be a frightening combination.

That logic is flawed. I was weary of the Berbatov signing when it was made and I think it didn't work out the way we wanted. In the end, every manager makes mistakes. And you don't necessarily move on to an absolutely identical player in terms of quality or style if you don't get your man. So people are entitled to their opinions on signings.

I trust Fergie's judgement. But I also know that every manager gets it wrong now and then. Even Fergie.

You'd think we would wait until the Olympics are over before concluding the deal. Can't imagine the Brazil football federation being too pleased with all this going on before a semi final.

Has a right foot like a cannon too by all accounts. One thing is for sure iFergie only spends £30m on undeniable talent, if he is willing to spend that on a kid, it can only be because his talent is special.

Not counting my chickens yet of course, but surely everyone has to be excited by this transfer should it come off.

First of all, I've never said that people aren't entitled to their opinion. I questioned the logic behind an opinion, which is a very different thing.

We've been after Alexis Sanchez, Eden Hazard and now Lucas- who are all very similar to each other. We are clearly after a specific type of player so for me it makes sense to get the highest quality player of that ilk that we can get. Obviously Fergie makes mistakes, no-one said he was infallible, but he makes them much, much less than most. If he thinks we need Lucas then that's enough for me.

spot on mate. Almost every player he has looked at for that role, would have cost a similar amount. So Fergie seems to be concentrating on the level of talent these guys have, and it seems you are not getting it for less than £30m unless their contracts are nearing their end.

I like the intent SAF is showing to get what he wants. Whether we have concerns about the money or whatever, he had clearly identified what he wants and he is not giving up without a fight. This gives me really positive vibes about Fergie's determination to right the wrongs of last season and put us in a strong position to do far better this season, especially in Europe.

He's a flying winger, with bags of pace and skill, with an eye for a good pass, he works hard and is pretty strong for his stature, he plays in any of the 4 positions up front.

He also posseses a good long range shot (judging from YouTube). I can kind of see the comparison to Nani more than Walcott in that, like a young nani he has all the speed and skills but just lacks the composure or decision making ability. Not really surprising considering his age but he still looks excellent. I would guess that he would initially be the player to excite and frustrate in equal measure

If we do get him - would it be possible that he would play a number 10 role - with Kagawa playing further back in a midfield two?

Whats wrong with having an exciting young winger he has bags of potential and is quick as lightning ?

Or would we go for the 3m Obertans', 7m Bebe's... I mean there has got to be deals some times but when we pulled 12m for Ronaldo, or 30m for Rooney I don't see anyone complaining ?

If SAF see's something in Lucas and he see's it is worth the risk, then I trust in his judgement. He has hardly let us down... He's cheaper than Andy Carrol FFS !
