Television Lost: The Final Season

I thought it was a very good episode, way better then last weeks.

I thought the acting was great all around ... Michael Emerson was great as usual and his redemption seems complete. Even Jack's moment of faith scene was good. But the episode lacked something in my opinion. Nothing much happened if you think about it. Widmore turning up was predictable. Nothing answered, I guess they are saving the reveals for the next episode.

I agree, but vere more towards thinking it was good. The story with Emerson and Alex (who was looking FIT!!) was involving and worth the majority of the ep for me since he's so engrossing as it is, but I agree nothing much actually happened. In fact on Island almost nothing happened. It was one of those ones where they're all travelling somewhere so they can meet up at the end and then get started on actually doing something in the next one. And yeah, Widmore was predictable...but mainly because his fecking name came up in the credits!

They really should stop posting the credits before the episode airs. When there was a couple of minutes to go before the show ended and Widmore hadn't turned up ... and they panned to the bad CGI submarine.... just didnt have the shock value. Considering not reading up before the shows now.

And didn't older Alex have some serious vampire thing going on the dental front. Was half expecting her to go all Christopher Lee on Ben at any moment.

Dunno she looked fit though...even if you hadn't read up on the cast you would likely have been spoiled anyway...I didn't read up, but I know the actor is Alan Dale, who's name appeared in the opening credits. Which was a bit shit

fecking hell!!!

i reckon ben's little speech in the class room summed up the smokey!

i can now see ben and widmore taking the place of jacob and smokey.

i feel for richard.

Alex was looking FIT!!

She's dating a man who's 40 years older than her.

Really liked this episode. I think people were expecting the war to start so I can see why some find it disappointing, but the story of the redemption of Ben was quite good in my opinion. I was completely expecting Ben to sell Alex out, but the way he finally accepted the loss of power and even found something good in it in both universes was especially refreshing, even though it was probably an obvious step in the plot.

I don't think the Napoleon stuff was about smokey at all. That was all about Ben the way I see it. At the beginning of the episode it was supposed to be a parallel to his character: the leader who couldn't accept that he no longer had any power. As soon as he ran from his grave we were supposed to say "There he goes, trying to take back his power again, just like Napoleon." But in the end he finally turned and decided that he was done and that he was okay with not being the ruler of the island anymore and could find something else worthwhile besides power. The Napoleon allegory (now a contrast) coupled with the fact that he had the upper hand and had the chance to seize power and willfully gave it up in both universes makes the redemption story all the more powerful.

Edit:

And Alex was definitely fit.

As far as the storyline goes, this episode was a filler (or more like a build-up episode as it sets things up for the coming episode(s)). I did like the off island storyline though, with Ben giving up a possibility of gaining power to save Alex's future.

Absoloutely fantastic episode! One of the best episodes of the season imo.

Bens speech at the start was more summing up himself in our timeline then it was Smokey imo.

Ending was great, next weeks is gonna be

I thought it was quite poor, in all honesty. I like Ben as a character but his off island story was a bit boring and all too predictable. Nothing really happened on the island, I guess the stuff with Ben trying to redeem himself or whatever was good in terms of character development, but this isn't Mad Men or The Sopranos, I want some actual fecking plot development.

It was like an episode from season 1, 42 minutes of filler and 1 minute of plot at the end.

I dont think it was filler in the slightest

That was probably as good a filler episode as they could have made.

The whole purpose of the episode was to basically get team Jacob all together and show us which side Ben ends up on. I enjoyed it only because of Emerson's acting, imagine if the episode focused on Jin instead? Would have been boring as feck.

Also the Hurley Richard dialogues were funny. I hope we get more of an explanation for his lack of ageing other than "Jacob did it".

The off island stuff was complete filler, though it usually is. Literally all that happened on the island was Ben picking a side after digging a grave for himself for the entire episode. Richard being immortal because of Jacob (no shit) and Jack being all philosophical before returning to the old camp to meet 'team Jacob'. Hell, even Widmore appearing was fairly fecking obvious as well.

I'm not someone who has expected Lost to constantly give answer after answer, otherwise I wouldn't still be watching, but I expect something, there are 10 or 11 episodes left until it's entirely over.

We found out in the flashsideways that Ben and his Dad were on the island in that timeline aswell as the fact that the DI also exist in this timeline, two very interesting answers and probably important answers in the whole FS storyline.

On island we found out that Smokey is taking his people to Hydra Island and from that we can assume that he has recruited the 316ers. We had a nice little snippet with Alpert in which we can pretty much confirm that he did come from the black rock and that his agelessness is part of his "contract" with jacob simmilar to Dogen's, two big mysteries very nearly answerd right there.

And then right at the end we are left with a very exciting scene and can safely say everything is going to be 100% awesome from here on out.

We got alot more from Dr. linus then we have from most episodes this season aswell some superb acting. Fantastic episode.

Everything in bold has already been answered in one way or another. I certainly knew all of that before the episode began, and I don't read future spoilers.

Might not have been massively important in terms of plot, but it was a great piece of television. The last four episodes for me have been great, with a mixture of storyline progression and character development (the latter being what Lost has always been best at, by the way). I'd be happy to see a couple more of these sorts of episodes along the way before the finale, they're fantastically engaging and when it comes to a rewatch, they're much more entertaining than plot development.

I thought it was very good

The off-island stuff was very well done, Emerson just made it though. Any episode based around him is impossible to be shit, superb actor. I liked the contrast in the flashsideways with Alex, (who was looking very fit) compared to what he did on the island.

I didn't read the cast list or any previews or even the credits at the start so the Widmore reveal was a complete surprise to me. Should spice things up even more. I'm hoping Desmond has stowed himself away on there though because there doesn't seem to be enough time or any other way for him to come back into the big picture.

I liked Jack and his new found faith too. Funny how people who looked so powerful in past seasons now look so unknowing and confused. Alpert even asked Jack what they do next, as if he had all the answers.

The reference to Nikki & Paulo was good, and Miles having the diamonds at the end

Interesting thing i read on a blog, Team Locke going to the Hydra island means they'll need to take the outriggers. This should mean we finally see who Juliet shot back when they were flashing through time. Imagine if it's Sawyer she kills, ultimate tragedy/headfeck there.

Yep, it looks like the pieces to the WAR that we have heard of for so long are finally in place. Flocke's Army vs Jacob's. Will be mighty interesting to see who all are on board the submarine. I guess Jacob was referring to these people in his dying words to Flocke in addition to Jack and co travelling forwards to the current timeline. Hope to hell that Desmond is on board, because then it would be officially on.

I wonder if Widmore would be on Jacobs side though, because I for one can't see Ben and him seeing eye to eye, with all their history. More likely that Widmore will be recruited by Smokie. But then how did he find the island in the first place? Too many questions.

Hopefully the next one with Richard - with the episode name being what it is -will explain most of the history of the island and the rules that govern Jacob and Flocke. Would that be too much to ask?

Spoiler stating next episodes name and centric character

The next episode is called Recon and is Sawyer centric.

When did this happen? I must have forgotten all about it.

In Season 5 when they were time traveling they took an outrigger from the beach which had Ajira Airways bottles in it, to travel to the Orchid. During this they started getting shot at by another outrigger behind them. We couldn't see who it was but Juliet started firing back, she hit one of the people on the boat behind them and then there was another flash which took them to 1988.

I didn't know that ben was imprisoned on the island

Widmore has to choose Jacobs side, theyd be way too outnumberd if he chooses MIB

Unlikely! He's on flocke's side because when our losties were trying to get back to the island bram told miles in the van that he's joining the wrong side and we know he was jacob's bodyguard

I wonder where Richard had been when he found Jack & Hurley

Jack: Where did you come from?
Alpert: You wouldn't believe me if I told you

Off island maybe? Did he get Widmore? Or Desmond? Please Desmond be on that sub.

Also  at Hurley

"Is this like a Terminator thing? Are you a cyborg?"
"Im not a Cyborg"
"A vampire?"

That was class. Hurley has to be one of, if not the most likeable character on TV.

also who are the 6 candidates excluding locke and sayid ?

I think that may have been an error on Ilana's/the writers part. Or maybe she thinks Sayid cans till be saved, maybe the same with Locke?
