Dont get me wrong, something is obviously happening in this alt timeline that gives it a purpose but I just dont think Des has a clue as to whats going on, if anyone does, it's Jack

The people in the temple are others, some have probably been the whole time (chinese dude and Lennon for example) whilst most others were probably brought there by Richard in season 4.

As for Cindy and the kids, she was captured by the others way back in S1

Try spoilering that shit and looking at previous posts.
In short they are the crew of the Blackrock looking after the fountain of youth. In the first few series you heard whispers efore someone vanished. The whispers we assumed came from Bens group. They came from this group which is why we haven't seen any of the people taken til now.

Dogen and Lennon aren't from the black Rock gambit, at least theres nothing to even suggest that.
 
Cindy was actually taken in S2.

The temple people from what I've seen are like this:

Dogen/Lennon: They are Others who look after the Temple, they guard the spring too.

Cindy/Kids/Other peeps: They are people that were taken from the tail section and have been converted.

The rest of them: Others from ben's group who went there with Richard as a safe haven when the Freightor was coming because they knew it was bad.

I'll go with that...I actually like the way that the others and the Black Rock crew are still being explained this far into the series

I have to agree it is very strange that they are only interacting with each other.
 
I dunno what to make of that. I was expecting the timeline to reset itself and go back to the original planecrash but with the memmories of what had happened previousally on the island.

I agree with Desmond being a constant and he's time travelling. There are however alot of issues arising with the alternative universe.

1. The widmore family is dead (Penny & Daniel). As someone mentioned earlier, Jack had a reaction when Desmond said the word "Brother". Now is that a reaction to when they first met at the stadium (which as someone mentioned wouldn't have happened). Or is Desmond a character that can awaken past memories?

2. Ben is dead and therefore the 2nd Dharma project never occured. Therefore Juliet is alive and well.

3. When did the island sink? It had to be after the explosion so how the hell are the two stories going to merge? Theres no way for alternate universe characters to merge in with current universe? I can't see any connection at all.

One thing I don't understand (I may need to rewatch or get someone to confirm). Ben took Locke to the cabin to meet "Jacob" and the cabin seemed to be the prison for Evil Locke. Was Richard with Ben and Locke at this point?

Also when Jacobs bodyguards went to the cabin they found the ash circle had been broken. How did this happen and when? We know it was intact when Locke/Ben went there, so where in the timeline was Evil Locke free'd?

This is an alternate reality, where the island is sunk underwater, which means Desmond never went to the island.

Red sky, Fake Locke was never in the cabin, Jacob had the ring of ash to keep him out.

desmond was on the plane, he must have finished his boat race in sydney then gets on the plane to go back right ? but the boat race was 3 years before the crash.

may have stayed in sydney for a reason? seems a bit long just to wait around.
perhaps its just a coincidence hes on the plane? but theres been too many "coincidences" which we have seen characters cross eachother.

des has always come across as somone who knows more than what he lets off. i think we will see more of him towards the end.

If the island did sink in 1977 then that means Charles Widmore died with it. Meaning he never had Penny, meaning Desmond never met Penny and therefore had no reason to go on the boat race.
 
Am I right in saying that Penny is not necessarily dead in the alt. timeline? We know Widmore left the island regularly and had a child with an outsider (I'm assuming this was therefore off island). Now unless Penny is under 30 and therefore wasnt born by 1977, she could very well still be alive, no? Although I'd imagine not having her father's fortune backing her would mean she'd never have met Des, at least not like they originally did.

Thats not the case surely. I thought Richard told Locke that Jacob hadn't been in his cabin for a long time when they went to find him last season. So that can't ever have been Jacob in the cabin. It had to be Evil/Fake Locke.

*Bare in mind that I think there is more than 1 smoke monster

Also if Jacob had been in the cabin then when Locke/Ben had gone to see him they would have seen him. Ben took Locke to the cabin thinking it was empty, when infact the Evil/Fake Locke was there. From what we know, Jacob can't manipulate environments, whereas Smokey can. Which would allow him to make the cabin move.

Yeah I suppose so. However Desmond still wouldn't have gone on the race because he only went on it to prove something to Charles Widmore. Faraday is the one that is never born, Eloise is pregnant on the island in 1977.

desmond still met jack in the stadium where he was training for the boat race.
this race might not gone ahead if widmore died.

Thats a fair point GDH. We don't know when Penny was born, whether it was before/after the incident. If it was before then yes Penny would be alive.

He was only training for the boat race because he wanted to show up Widmore. If theres no Charles Widmore the race doesn't even exist.

I thought there was more to it? Desmond left the military then returned to see Penny to prove that he'd changed no? Was the boat race Widmores idea or Desmonds? I can't remember, I only rewatched S5.

I just assumed that was because he wanted to die because he had no purpose in life? He went to Aussie to reform the band with his brother. But the brother had cleaned up his life and had a family. Therefore no band = no point of living
