Television Lost: Season 5

All future spoilers should be forbidden in my opinion, white text or no white text.
Annoying as hell having to read every sentences slowly word for word wondering if some spastic forgets to use white text or decides to just respond normally to a white text-spoiler.

Also, GloryHunter07, why only white-text the name of the person rumoured to die, why didn't you white text the "may die, because" part as well?

Because we were already speculating about who was going to die. My comment was speculation based on a rumour i heard, not an actual spoiler.

couple of answers and mysteries about the island will be revealed in the next episode as its somewhat ben centric.

Perhaps we should open up a seperate thread, for those who don't want to see any spoilers ?

I would have no objections to this.

I don't see why people like spoiling it for themselves though, ruins the impact of it in the episode. I don't even watch the episode previews anymore as I like the surprise.

True, problem is that in the few days before an episode comes out we always tend to descend into speculation.. I much rather the discussion post episode.

the temptation is too hard for me :(

There are more layers to it than that:

Those who don't want to see any spoilers at all because they're planning on watching the entire season on DVD.
Those who don't want to see any US spoilers as they're watching the series in the UK.
Those who don't want any future spoilers about upcoming episodes (it being premos or rumours)
Those who want to talk about spoilers.

I think we can all agree that tier 3 is the way to go... ;)

Nope only 1 hour tonight

Some like it Hoth? I like the sound of that.

The original inhabitants of the island.

Yeah baby was fairly obvious. Also knew straight away that the little kid was Ben

Is it safe to say that none of the main characters can die in the 1970s timeline?

hurley the new chef in otherville

i think the others knew all along that the losties were present in the dharma time period since there photographs were placed all over in the barracks and richard met sawyer personally.

interesting to see that radzinky was building the model for the swan station....

is daniel dead or just disappeared ??

No i'm pretty sure they can. Becuase technically they haven't been born yet. And Adam and Eve are pretty certain to be two of the main characters.

Their in 1977. I'm sure some of them are older than 30.

Tis true actually, but that doesn't mean they can't die. There are then two of them in one time so when the older one dies the younger one lives on until they reach the island, go back in time and then die back in the 70's. And so the cycle goes on.

It is a big loophole. None of the others' behaviour or even Ben's behaviour in previous season suggested he knew the survivors.

Why would they? The only one who would be old enough to remember them would be Richard surely? I'm guessing the losties don't stay on the island for too long past '77. And the others that they meet on the island in 2004 would only be very young in '77.

But surely that was because they hadn't travelled back in time before the previous seasons - just like if someone kills baby Ethan now, then that doesn't mean that he shouldn't have been alive in the previous seasons as that was before they had travelled back in time.

I'm no time travelling genius, obviously, but it does make sense to me. There are various time lines:
2006 before they travelled back in time, and the up-coming 2006, if they stay in the 77-timeline for 29 years.

But they must have gone back in time before this time. See Richard meeting Locke as a child as an example.

Also i heard a theory that this could end in a way very similar to that of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series. The ending after he's got to the top of the tower.

I hope not but with the time travel stuff i can see it happening.

can you honestly remember everyone you have ever met?

Just because Ben has met Sayid when he was 10 (or whatever), doesnt mean he will remember him 30 years later

Yes that episode doesn't match up with my theory. Hopefully him visiting Locke had nothing to do with Locke's visit in the time travel timeline, otherwise it leaves too many loopholes open.

Like I said, I still think it's a case of "what happened, happened". What we see now is the past of the show in every sense of the word. This would seem to be supported by the whole Richard Alpert deal, with Locke in particular. It doesn't quite explain why most people seem oblivious to who our heroes are, but there could be many explanations for that. They could be hiding it. Or "something" made them forget. Or maybe it's as simple as the creators of Lost didn't have all this planned in advance.

I still think "what happened, happened" is the case, though.

Ethan saw Locke in the jungle.

Ben just now met Sayid and I would wager he would see 2-3 other survivors. I would also wager that they would be heaving involved in some Ben storyline which means despite being so young, he won't forget them.

Not to mention the fact, the survivors now feature in Dharma's photos. Which means a lot of others could have seen them in these pics as well.

I have no idea what you are talking about there. But one instance occurs only one way in what happened, what happened time travel theory.

Meaning, French woman did not enter the temple because Jin was always there to tell her not to. There was no timeline when she did not enter for other reasons.

Ethan got born because Juliet and Sawyer saved Amy. No time line where Amy got saved by hostiles from someone else.

The current survivors were always part of the old Dharma.

This theory does not make much logical sense though and they have no even implemented it properly.
