Television Lost: Season 5

That much is true. Some people are falling over themselves to prove that write had it planned it all along, when it is quite clear they did not. In fact they wanted to kill off Jack in the first episode, it's the network executives who insisted otherwise. Same with Ben, he was not supposed to last this long but they changed it when the realised that audience liked him.

Yes. The aside from the first series it's not had any real direction.(we'll forget the polar bears, mind you). Thing is, it doesn't really have a structure. I love absurdity in films, I love many of Takeshi Miike's and David Lynch's movies, for example, but you know the genre is most likely to be surrealism. Lost was a fantasy/adventure. . .but it's just about covered everything(sci fi, time travel, supernatural, fantasy etc) without ever being planned out. What's to stop the writers from saying that the land was created by humans from a parallel universe, 3000 years in the future by the help of Jehovah, Rah and Krishna?? nothing at all. Which is why I think it's the most stupid series I've had the misfortune of getting into. Anyway, don't be too surprised if it gets even more ridicilous. But honestly, they're taking the piss, because people keep on watching it.

Next season is gonna be the last and that's why I am watching because it is only a few episodes till the end. Also I doubt they are going to explain everything. I doubt they will explain why the island exists at all or who created that time wheel etc etc.

I get the feeling you won't be satisfied til their viewing figures reach 0

Really cause i found 3 to be too slow in developing the story. My least favourite one so far. Series one is my favourite because it all moves at a quick rate and they're just people lost on an island trying to survive, exploring the island.
I did not see the whole time travel, dharma initiative thing coming at all.

dharma and hanso have been there since day 1.

Twin peaks was surreal. But it was meant to be. Whereas the writers of Lost just kept(keep) on making things up as they went(go) along. Makes me laugh when I see Lost fans trying to decipher the hidding means. I mean, for feck's sake, not even the writers know. You fecking gimps.

It's like looking for bible codes.

Given enough information, patterns appear simply by chance rather than design.

But you still keep bitching in this thread regardless.

You dont like lost, we get it. Nearly as bad as weaste with his Microsoft hate.
This.
why is there no bloody lost this week???

Was planned by the writers apparantly La Fleur was in there eyes the end of chapter one (which is wierd because IMO the life and death of jeremy bentham would be a better choice) hence a break. and apparantly theres another break somewhere in april

atleast i heard all of thst from lostpedia so it could be wrong

I know as well as anybody else that the writers have changed direction on the show as it has progressed. The actors themselves have said as much in interviews.

At the same time though, it's clear that this was always meant to be more than just an adventure drama. The very first episodes had a monster that made a huge mechanical noise and crushed down trees, then had a bloody polar bear in the jungle. These things were never going to be answered by everyday explanations.

Once it became clear that the island was undetectable, that it had healed a paralysed man, that Jack's dad had somehow left his coffin and was walking the island, and there were "others" that were stealing people, it became necessary to develop the history and mythos of the island. All of this started in the first season.

In season 2, Sayid told Jack that the last time he saw something covered in concrete like the wall in the hatch, was Chernobyl. Now in the fifth season we see that they buried a bomb on the island. Coincidence? Or Maybe the writers just worked their way out of a hole as they went on? Or maybe it was a planned story?

In the same season, we learn of Dharma. How were they meant to fully explain that area of the story without taking you back to that period of time? How about the Black Rock, which is apparently going to be revealed soon enough? Or the four-toed statue?

In season 3, we meet Horace, a member of the Dharma Initiative, and we meet him again in season 4 when he's seen by Locke in a dream, building the cabin that Jacob is in, which he says is apparently for his family to live in. Now In season 5 he has a son born, who everybody can see is going to become relevant to the story. But apparently what we're seeing in this season is all recently invented, because they obviously never intended to take us back to this stage of the island.

Even if time travel wasn't in their initial ideas for the story, it at the very latest, became a part of the story in the first episodes of season 3, which was three years ago. It all started with Desmond after his incident with imploding the hatch, when he went back to his earlier days with Penny. They introduced Faraday's mother in that episode, and it was obvious that she was always intended to be used again. Which she has been, in season 5.

good post easy v

but the concrete wall in the swan does not have the bomb behind it, if you have played lost: via domus (the official video game of lost) you get to go behind the wall, its just a big magnet.

Apart from that all good points.

So it was just a coincidence then? Dammit

Nevertheless, there are still far too many consistencies over the course of the last 3-4 seasons to suggest that none of this was planned out. Too many characters were established early on in the show, that have now become more prominent in this current angle to the story.

Also, as has been said, Ben was never meant to be a lead in the show, but that was changed. I can't see any reason anybody would have for criticising that change of direction.

To top this miserable weekend off, I turn on my TV at nine, hoping to avoid MOTD2 and be cheered up by the only good thing about the weekend....and Lost isn't even on.

you only just found out? has been known for a while now and has even been discussed in here

Read at your own risk but the last episodes of this season are titled as The Incident parts 1 & 2

and MAJOR DEATH this year either belongs to Ben, Sawyer, or Dan.

I'd fly over and knife the writers if they kill sawyer which is where all the fingers are pointing

there were rumors that the actor that plays sawyer has been told about it and he's extremely pissed about it.

I've managed to restrain myself from reading that white text. Cheers for not spoiling it.

They're gonna kill off Desmond? :wenger:

I really can't see the logic behind that tbh, one of the best characters on the show without being that relevant to the current plot. Seems like an unnecessary twist to me.

Put it in white text you muppet

ffs....

I heard that Kate may die, because: She has been looking for new scripts for next year....

He's wumming, what he says has nothing to do with whats in the white text actually.
Lol, sorry about that guys, I only posted it for Solius to read.

Desmond won't be dying any time soon, so you can relax on that one. Just a very poor WUM attempt :(

actually you're right...according to some spoilers on darkufo ben went to kill penny but ended up killing desmond and thats why ben also got hurt in the scuffle.

again, you best be joking.

those white text spoilers have got me all giddy with excitement, as has just finding out the name of the finale.

Its gonna be so fecking epic I cant wait!!!!

I think he is. But I dont get the point in fake spoilers for posters who dont want to know the actual spoiler...just makes them think they know it which pisses them off....only to be pissed off again when it doesnt happen.

In fairness, I was always planning to own up to mine, just thought it was funny that Solius was chuffed to have avoided all the spoilers, only to come back shortly after and think he'd had it blurted out to him by some idiot.

Obviously not the best of jokes, so fair enough.

All future spoilers should be forbidden in my opinion, white text or no white text.
Annoying as hell having to read every sentences slowly word for word wondering if some spastic forgets to use white text or decides to just respond normally to a white text-spoiler.

Also, GloryHunter07, why only white-text the name of the person rumoured to die, why didn't you white text the "may die, because" part as well?
