Los Angeles Fires 2025

So I've just seen a report saying it was deliberately lit??

There are different fires. From what I've read one of them (the Kenneth fire) may have been deliberately lit. I think the Kenneth one is the latest to ignite: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2025/01/10/la-wildfires-death-toll-doubles-new-fires-spread/

Seems like it's too early to say for some of the others, but faulty power lines are possibly to blame: https://www.latimes.com/california/...res-saw-massive-influx-in-faults-before-fires

First reports of the Eaton fire, for example, came from a couple that saw fire break out from what looks to be beneath power lines. They took pics: https://pasadenanow.com/main/the-moment-the-eaton-fire-ignited

While not impossible there are more likely culprits:

Bob Marshall, the chief executive of Whisker Labs, said in an interview with The Times that the areas near the Eaton, Palisades and Hurst fires all saw massive increases in faults in the hours leading up to the fires. Faults on the power grid are caused by tree limbs hitting electrical wires or wires hitting one another, among other causes. Each fault causes a spark.

Telegraph now reporting that an "arsonist with a flamethrower(!!!)" has been arrested:

An alleged arsonist suspected of sparking the latest fire in Los Angeles was found with what neighbours described as a “large propane tank or flamethrower”. Residents bundled the man to the ground and tied him up with zip ties in order to carry out a citizens’ arrest before police arrived at the scene in the West Hills.

“We really banded together as a group,” Renata Grinshpun told KLTA 5 TV channel. “A few gentlemen surrounded him and got him on his knees.”

Charles Dinsel, the senior lead officer, confirmed that a man was caught trying to start a fire. The suspect is reported to be homeless and in his 30s.

The cause and reason behind the Kenneth fire which broke out on Thursday afternoon still remains unclear, but officials say it is “being investigated as a crime”.

By 11pm on Thursday, the fire had burned through more than 1,000 acres and had reached 35 per cent containment. Officials said the “forward progress” of the blaze had been stopped with firefighters battling it overnight.

Just knock three times and we’ll let you in the side gate. Remember: we want free education, health care, gender equality, and a Raveonettes record in every home.
Wait, The Raveonettes was your go-to Danish cultural export reference? I guess we are pretty slim in that area.

It's weird, right? Clearly Denmarks prime cultural export would be LEGO and butter cookies, right?

I was thinking specifically in terms of music, movies and TV shows, and we are falling short in that area it seems. If we widen it to all exports, it's Ozempic by a country mile. It was literally mentioned in the very first line of the Golden Globes opening monologue.

I saw on the news last night a lot of pets perished because it was too dangerous to let people in to retrieve them. Their owners tried to go back for them but they were not allowed because the fire was too intense. Then I saw this when I woke up. Hopefully the death toll isn't higher for humans and their pets.

Imagine being this skilled at your job. A job that saves lives.

Awesome drop. And then you have worthless wankers who fly their crappy drones over the areas in an attempt to gawk and damage the precious firefighting aircraft:

It's incomprehensible to me that they would leave their pets at home when there is any risk of it being hit by a fire in the first place.

I have a coworker who was in Costa Rica when this all started (she has a dog and a cat at home). I am sure some percentage of people where away when it started. I would hope whoever was pet sitting or watching the pets would have taken care of it but in crisis time, you never know (maybe even their pet sitter couldn't make it to the house).

And a reminder that when Trump was President last time he held up emergency funds to California because he didn’t win the state in the election. He’s that petty. I reminded a Trump fan of this last night and their brain got stuck. It’s really owning the libs when you make everyone suffer and die needlessly. #fecktheserepublicancNuts

They ended up getting funding because people in Trumps camp showed him that the parts of California that were on fire were actually republican areas. It's sickening that we elected him again.

It makes my blood boil that there are people so vile on the planet that they’ll loot from people and businesses whose lives have just been turned upside down and shredded.

These are the sort of apocalyptic scenes I envisaged as a result of climate change in 30-40 years, not now.

Your sex life is wild, man
I wish!

But it is actually true, failure to keep my feet moisturized enough caused a the skin to split under a callous and resulted in gangrene and a toe amputation

Let it be a warning, especially folks who have diabetes, lube your feet 'cos it might feck your feet up if you don't, and in a sidenote to the Heathcare thread, it cost my insurance company in the region of $250K so was almost worth it!
