London 2012 Olympic Competition

He obviously wasn't arrested for being a dick to Tom Daley, and it's bemusing to see the media implying as much. It's the obvious death threats he was making later which will have drawn the police's attention.

Thanks for clarifying this, as I have been bemused as to why a rather inappropriate but not illegal comment should have caused all this furore.

The facilities over here are pretty amazing by UK standards. College facilities and scholarships give the US a great advantage when it comes to cultivating talent. However the recreational facilities in communities are far superior as well. Most high schools have competitive swim teams and they pretty much all have access to 50m pools.

Not to be an arsehole but................................

If you take into consideration population size and GDP America don't perfrom that well compared to the rest of the world.

Listening to the radio talking about this, and they haven't a clue, they're now debating the justification of arresting him for the original comments. DO SOME feckING JOURNALISM YOU SHITS.

Womens football on tonight, against Brazil. That wont end well.

Was following his account last night, surprised he has not been arrested yet. The amount of racism, homophobia and death threats throughout his account is disgusting.

Christ, with the doping culture in American sports that seems a little rich. However, her performance was absudly good and seems suspicious, on the other hand, so was Usain Bolts in Beijing and he never gets accused.

Thats ridiculous, we all know the real reason they are winning everything is because all the equipment was made there.

There was a good program on radio 2 last night which included a section about doping, the East German state sponsored doping initiative and them pretty much saying it's still widespread. Urine tests are useless apparently.

I think all this about the Chinese gold medal winner is very unfair, has it stands there is no proof that she has taken any drugs and the comments by the American is just sour grapes.
OK so in time is might come out that she was using drugs but until that all she has done is swim the fastest she has ever swam before.

Womens beach volleyball now on. Nice.

cant get red button at work so stuck with swimming or horsey stuff.

Im watching it on the website, every point there is a hug and a slap on each others arse. I am purely interested in the sport, I swear.

At least there seems to be a bit of atmosphere at this compared to the other events I have seen, it looks pretty full too compared to other arenas.

It was an inspired choice to have the beach volleyball where it is, it has maybe the best atmosphere of any crowd

The bloke on the microphone too seems to be doing a great job of getting the atmosphere up.

Sounds like a little shit.

Indeed, but it's just typical keyboard-warrior crap you can find anywhere on the internet. I'm glad he's been arrested - hopefully it will send out a message to discourage this sort of thing - but what are they gonna charge him with? Being a little shit? Ban his account and make his name public would be punishment enough.

if she didn't take enhancing drugs it was an amazing swim. Faster than the men's winner in the last 50m ffs.

He's obviously been arrested for a comment about Daley's dead Dad, nothing to do with threatening to drown him, strangle another guy and stab another one in the throat/shoot him.

No siree.

Thats the comment that brought it to light though, Nobody would of given a crap unless it was directed to him; i think thats the point.

Of course, but people reporting that he's been arrested because of his comment to Tom, and not even mentioning these follow up comments, are just wrong.

The freestyle leg of the IM was faster than the men's gold medalist. The last time we had such amazing improvements in times over such a short time was when Michelle Smith took 19 seconds (a phenomenal amount) of her 400m freestyle in a very short period of time and when all those anonymous Chinese swimmers suddenly won Gold. In all cases doping was responsible.

Britain's silver medalist from Beijing, David Florence, has failed to make the final of the canoe slalom.

Got to say that we're doing a lot worse than Beijing so far in most of our sports.

It is a mixed picture i think. In terms of the general medal tally things are fair enough and we are in contention for a good many. Rather that we would have expected a gold to have been converted in the men's race race on Saturday or canoe slalom today.

Ben Ainslie's not having the best of time of it but he's come through for us so often in the past.

Compared to Beijing it's looking poor, but there's lots to come yet. Rowing and cycling should help us out a bit.

Even if we don't equal what we achieved in China, that's probably more attributable to us having done so well there than us being dismal here. Perhaps after being so successful last time we set the sights a bit too high this time round.

 Knocked out the Badminton as well. We are doing shit

It's extremely disappointing so far. We can't sugar coat it. I've been taking notice of as many of our events as I can find and we usually seem to be losing/getting knocked out of them. Our athletes need to draw on the inspiration of being the home team and start getting in contention for medals.

Cmon Team GB! Step it up.

When does the Roddick/Djokovic game start?

BBC: Plain sailing down at Wimbledon where former champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia is through after smashing American Andy Roddick 6-2 6-1 in under an hour. He made that look extremely simple.
