London 2012 Olympic Competition

Why are all the gymnasts caked in make up? And why are they all 12? Isn't this supposed to be a sport?

It all feels too creepy for me. Like those beauty pageants in the deep south.

Watching the women's football, United States vs. North Korea at Old Trafford.

It's artistic gymnastics. The sport is about showmanship and finesse as well as pulling off the cartwheels and landings and stuff.

They are 15-21. Mostly about 17 I think. Swimmers aren't very old but they are taller and differently built.

One of those Romanians is not a day over 11.

The whole event creeps me out. Along with those short, awkward hand movements and jigs they do in between the actual gymnastics (anyone can do that!). And all that smiling.

Art shouldn't have anything to do with sport.

The Chinese look devastated. Feel sorry for them. Practically children, must have dedicated so much of their lives training for this moment. I'd have a higher minimum age limit on these things. I can't imagine a 16 year old having much of a say when it comes to this sort of thing considering she must have spent at least 4 years before that training. When you're 12 you'll pretty much go along with what your parents want you to do.

Raonic . What a serve! Saves his 2nd MP with yet another unreturnable 222kmph serve.

It's not fair on Tsonga that he'll have to come back and play again tomorrow.

Big controversy over at the badminton, the competitors are trying to lose the games they are playing. There has been booing and a black card having been shown.

To avoid facing a dangerous opponent later on, the system allows for it apparently and those taking part were being none too subtle about it [two matches affected].

If you've paid for a ticket or have placed money on the contest you are rightly going otbe miffed.

I can never understand a sportsperson who goes out onto a court/field of play and tries to lose. How the feck do you do it?

Idiotic that the organisers let this situation arise in the first place, though.

A loss can be a win.......caf wisdom number 26.

US are now just taking the piss. Looking forward to seeing more of A. Davis, looks a very good player.

I'm sort of learning the details of the rules as the game goes, but even I'm impressed by this Davis kid.

Beach Volleyball still on BBC 11 - the US in great form, those white bikini bottoms are an inspired choice. Not sure of the score though :smirk:

just watched the Badminton when both teams were trying to lose, what a joke both teams should of been thrown out.
You don't go into an Olympic match and want to lose, you should be trying your hardest to win all the time and if you don't want to do that, put somebody else in that does want to win.
Is it not in the oath that the players take, they try there best at all times.
