London 2012 Olympic Competition

Can't take rowing seriously , but a gold is a gold , so hoorah.

The badminton games were ridiculous, can't believe as an olympic athlete you would want to do that. I'd want to beat the best to be the best. Of course it would be good if you had an easier draw but to actively look for it is shocking in any sport. They should have a rule to come in that disqualifies them.

It directly goes against The Olympic Oath... so they could easily and justifiably kick them out on that basis.

Then they should.

Brilliant win for the GB rowers, could be the start of a good day :)

I hope they get disqualified from the badminton too, disgraceful and unfair to everyone else...we all know it can be done as the rules changed...but no one else has fixed their games

Well that is some news and was kinda inevitable, probably a bit harsh but it does set standard for future.

A little more.

All eight badminton players accused of not trying in last night's badminton heats have been disqualified from the London Olympics, Telegraph Sport understands. The eight players from four teams in the women's doubles competition have been thrown out following an inquiry by the Badminton World Federation in London this morning.

Name of these 8 players, anyone?

China - Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang
Korea - Jung Kyung-eun and Kim Ha-na
2nd Korean - Ha Jung-eun and Kim Min-jung
Indonesia - Meiliana Jauhari and Greysia Polii.

Or you know... just read any one of the thousand news stories on the matter.

they have announced on BBC2 that 4 players...two pairs are being told they are disqualified...not all of them, yet, it will be rather controversial if they keep the chinese in

What I don't get is why did it suit them ALL to lose? I could understand one or two pairs thinking they were better off losing to face an easier opponent, but how was it a case for everyone?

Can anyone explain?

I think... and i'm not sure on this, China wanted to lose the first game in order to avoid playing their countrymen, whilst Korea wanted to lose as they would have had an easier tie in the next round. Similarly, Korea wanted to lose the 2nd game to avoid playing the other Korean pair, and then I have no idea why Indonesia wanted to lose... possibly to have an easier game, or they were just copying their opponents out of spite? (as Korea went on to win, apparently against their intentions).

Well none from group B :(

BREAKING: Eight badminton players disqualified from Olympics after being accused of "not using one's best efforts to win a match" #BBC2012

That's the right decision. I know somebody who paid a lot of money to be in the arena yesterday and the contempt those players showed for their audience is unbelievable.

Fine the players with the total of the fine enough to refund the people who went to watch the Badminton.

Yep... I don't think they have a leg to stand on in the matter, nor do I imagine they'll find themselves many defenders..

Does this mean that 4 pairs will replace them in the quarters?

They need to change the system somehow though. Shouldn't be right that pairs from the same country face each other early in the competition.

Yep, I think a lot of people will agree with that. I imagine they will change it for the 2016 games to avoid a repeat performance of this.

Of course, a flawed system doesn't mean you can therefore take the power into your own hands and give them the right to act like cnuts though. They've only themselves to blame as well, the referee warned them all numerous times to play the game in the proper manner, and they blantantly ignored him.

Apparently India has also appealed against Japanese doubles team.

Edit rejected

I saw the first China - Korea game. They could have at least tried to make it less obvious.

In other news, Boris Johnson is stuck on a zip wire.
