London 2012 Olympic Competition

Yep, Japan get Silver. GB into Bronze.

Bit gutting, but still a great result none the less.

Well that was complete shit. Can't believe I spent hours watching it, had that great moment, and then had it stripped like that. What a joke of a 'sport'.

Annoying how it all worked out. If the judges had got it right the first time they'd have been ecstatic with bronze.

Tough on Ukraine too even moreso.

Its funny isnt it. Way happy with bronze. Upgraded to Silver and ecstatic. Then back to Bronze and disappointed.

Still, fantastic achievement.

What a silly comment, its more of a sport than most, takes many many hours of hard work to get to this standard.
TBF China did deserve the silver, the deduction was very very harsh.
To win a Bronze is fantastic

I have complete respect for the gymansts themselves, but any competition which can announce a final result and then ten minutes later announce a completely different one is a joke, and to my mind, not worth watching and certainly not worth investing in emotionally. Which is a real shame, cause I watched that for hours and really enjoyed it. I certainly won't be making that mistake again.

fair point and I agree with you, the fault there was with the judges, they dropped a clanger. The deduction was wrong and was rightly reversed

No it's not. It is called being fair. Other sports should take note, like when a penalty is unfairly given etc. The fact is, the judges made an error, they are only human and they acknowledged this by altering the score. The Japan Gymnast did not deserve that low score at all.

The fault isn't with the judges, it's whatever aspect of the sport allows them to announce a result, not a score but an outright result, and then have it be protested afterwards.

It's the equivalent of having a match-winning goal disallowed after the final whistle has blown.

You have to know about Gymnastics before you start spouting off really. The score is announced, then if the coaches feel that the judges have made an error, they are then allowed to appeal it. This is not a one off situation in Gymnastics, it just happens to be more magnified because it was the final score of the competition and it was for a medal.

The strength these gymnasts must have is insane.

It is. I play football every week with a veteran gymnast and he's about 175cm and can push anyone around. He doesn't get tired doing pull ups or push ups or exercises like that. They're the fittest people I know of without looking like steroid freaks or monsters like the MMA blokes.

Well then, I stand by my original statement, I'm not interested in watching gymnastics again, and I know I'm far from the only casual observer to have had the same response. Which sucks for Gymnastics, because one of the main values of the Olympics is bringing new fans to sports which don't have much of a profile.

GB-Argentina in Field Hockey should be tasty. That's the team that had the player who made the Falklands commercial.

So despite enjoying it for 4 hours you won't be watching it again? :wenger:

As others have stated, it's a credit to the sport that they have an appeal system in place and they are honest enough to admit they made a mistake instead of coming out with "it's all part of the sport" bollocks.

I wonder if they keep stats for contended decisions for each Olympics.

Someone's probably mentioned this during the previous eight pages but it sure does seem like there's been a lot of controversial 'check the replay' decisions.

Do you support Man Utd? If so, did you carry on watching them after the refs cheated Spurs out of 3 points?

Momentous task by the British Gymnasts, and I for one are really pleased they have managed to get a team medal. British Gymnastics has come on in leaps and bounds over the last decade, and they have surpassed all their dreams pulling off this performance.

It seems quite an immature response to be honest. I'm disappointed by it of course, but I can accept that it was the fairest result, even if it wasn't the one I'd wanted or hoped for.

If it was the other way round and we'd had a successful appeal and gone from 4th to 2nd, I'd be loving it and enjoying the fact that for once we actually utilise technology to make sure that the best performances are the winners.

Yes, and I kept watching after all the times United were cheated in matches, including ones which have cost us league titles. In football once a result has been declared it's locked in place (barring revelations of matchfixing), so you can safely celebrate or mourn the result or what have you. During a football match a whole load of ridiculous decisions can be, and invariably are made, and I could well understand if that meant people were unwilling to watch the sport. Personally I'm okay with it, albeit I'm an advocate of more in-game review of decisions.

So despite enjoying it for 4 hours you won't be watching it again? :wenger:

Yes, because my abiding memory will be that nonsense at the end. As fans of the sport you can be offended all you like, but I'm not interested in watching a sport which produces ridiculous situations like that. It's not exactly a moral judgement, it's an issue of taste.
