Liverpool : General discussion

I was thinking today that United's biggest signings that we get the most excited about often let people down the most.

Berbatov (I loved him)
Di Maria
Falcao
Mata (again very mixed)

Yeah then you have the likes of Vidic and Evra who both turned out to be fantastic servants for United. Hernandez did well and I'd never heard of him prior to United signing him. Van Der Saar was signed for £2 million and ended up being a crucial part of one of Ferguson's greatest sides.

Then you have us, signing Lallana for £25 million, Carroll for £35 million, Benteke for £32.5 million, Lovren for £20 million, Sakho for £18 million and Balotelli for £16 million. Just look at that list. Christ almighty.

On the other hand, there's Roy Keane, Stam, Van Nistelrooy, Rio Ferdinand... all record signings, all fantastic players for the club.

Basically, some signings work out, some signings don't.

If he didn't pick those two who would play in CM. Allen and Lucas? They are similar.

Our youngsters (they're not that young, Tex is 23 now I think) have done better in the cups than our 'seniors' in league matches. I would have played a handful of those. Tex and Brannagan mainly.

Mignolet is an easy target (literally too), Liverpool's defence is fecking shocking. Sakho, Toure, Lovren, do they have a CB that's not utter garbage? Moreno another shit, Clyne's mediocre at best, Milner, Meme Chan and fecking Lucas Leiva ahead of them. Throw that idiotfaced inbred with (C)unt's armband and Mignolet is simply blending in.

Bryan Robson, Mark Hughes, Andy Cole, Wayne Rooney were also record signings. Our record with spending big is actually very good - it's just a bit overlooked as they're not as useful for point scoring online.

Thought this lot were meant to be topping the league by the new year with king Klopp on board. Lol.

I am really not sure what to make of your team. I've watched 2 games and you look very dangerous for about 20 mins. Then all just becomes mediocre.

Yet again we have to write off a season because Klopp now needs to build his team. We've not been dangerous in the first 20 minutes for a long time now. Just mediocre.

And this doesn't reflect favourably on a world class manager. I'm not going into this relationship blinded like Utd fans initially were with LvG.

Caulker? Although he's a centre forward now in Klopp's world :)

They've obviously had a lot of problems defensively for quite a while now, but you can't legislate for a confidence sapping force like Mignolet. How on earth pool saw fit to give him a pay rise is beyond me, protecting an asset (as every footballer is, even the mediocre ones) is all very well and good, but what could he have possibly done during his time there to make the club thing he had earned a pay rise.

Get him out of the number one spot and Liverpool will have solved a small chunk of their problems.

Anderson the new Ronaldinho too

Indeed. Thankfully Klopp can't dump them all in a summer. At best he can bring in 3-4 players. He is stuck with loads of these donkeys.

I think that with the right signings, 3-4 players coming in can improve some of those 'donkeys.' Suarez made Rodgers look like a very good manager and transformed players like Henderson, Sakho and Mignolet into title contenders. Obviously we won't be getting a Suarez level player but a couple of improvements to the starting eleven would probably do wonders for a few players in the squad.

This is all working under the assumption that we get our transfers right in the summer which, looking at past examples, doesn't seem likely. I just have to hope that Klopp is better at signing players than Rodgers was.

What is the record for most goals conceded from a set piece in a season? These lot should be close.

stolen from Facebook.

Roberto Martinez, Eddie Howe, Slaven Bilic, Gus Hiddink and Jurgen Klopp all walk into a bar. Martinez, Howe, Bilic and Hiddink buy the first rounds. As Klopp went to buy his round Martinez said "Sit down mate, this is the 5th round and you're not in it"

They are back to being the league's comedy club....which is where they belong.

Was Klopp as arsey with the press in Germany? He seemed quite cool and light hearted when he arrived whereas now he seems a bit more defensive and sarcastic. Or am I imagining that?

Last 4 games (head to head):

West Ham 2 - 1 Liverpool
Liverpool 0 - 0 West Ham
West Ham 2 - 0 Liverpool
Liverpool 0 - 3 West Ham

Are you referring to the funny faces he pulls when asked a question? If so he was doing that when he came in.

I think he's more pissed off with the players to be honest. Maybe he overestimated the abilities of a few of them and now he's realising how average some of them are.
Benteke makes fecking 140k quid a week, deary me.
I think Milner is on about that as well as Kolo Toure. Absolutely stealing a living some of them.

Absolutely no way Milner and Toure are on 140K/week. I doubt if either of them has over 100K.

I can understand Milner maybe, because he was coming on a free but who in the name of feck would give Kolo Toure £140k a week

Oh yeah made a mistake with Toure, Milner is on £120k p/w apparently. Our highest paid player according to the link in the post by @Kostur is Benteke on £140k.

Right! That's it! Their tickets to the final are cancelled. :D

I definitely noticed that he was cold in the post-match interview today, even when the interviewer asked if he was recovering.

But then again, he was on the operating table 48 hours ago having his appendix whipped out. I don't think I'd be feeling too jolly either.

He looked seriously p*ssed off today. Lucas was bricking it, complaining to all and sundry because he knew he was in for a shit storm when he got back in.

The handshake with Bilic was cold and half hearted. No eye contact or word spoken. I think Klopp realised if it went to penalties we were through. Probably met the media in the same mood.
