I think his strengths are his pace and positioning when defending attacks coming through the middle. His passing into midfield and the forwards has been good as well.

His biggest weakness for me is dealing with diagonal balls over the top. He seems to get a few of those wrong, allowing the attacking player to bypass and get in behind him. I've noticed it a few times.

He's had a very good start to the season so far. His pace is an asset.

Definitely agree with that. If I was his coach, I would advise him to let diagonal balls go over him and let the opposition collect. He misjudges the flight too often for my liking, and finds himself in no man's land too often.

But he is a really good talent. Going under the radar a little bit compared to other English CBs. But probably not for too long.

They look more and more like pretty much every Fabio Capello coached *club* side ever. The bottom half can't even play against them, and they will always find ways to score

And that should seriously scare this place

Don’t worry Liverpool and redman5 will implode come January
This stance is getting a bit boring now. Give them their props. Laugh if it all blows up, but let's stop setting ourselves up for some serious embarrassment.

Not sure how long I can stand their fans being ultra gobshitey for and us giving them the material for it.

We all hate them but there's no denying they are a brilliant team that has been coached incredibly well. Why the feck we can't find a good coach to do the same with our team I don't know, but hey I'm sure we'll all have fun with the Jose In/Out threads for the next 6 months whilst the scousers have a fecking riot watching their team bang in the goals for fun.

Really awkward time to be a Chelsea fan who grew up hating Spurs & Liverpool. I like so many of their players now and their managers, it’s depressing.

Got to give Liverpool the props they deserve. They look incredible all over the pitch and are playing some lovely stuff. If you look at their bench this season, you know they are the real deal now. Quality replacements ready to come in for a very powerful first xi.

Hopefully City beat them to the league as I don’t think we are ready this season, despite our start.

Still think it's City's to lose, their depth is really good and easily the best in the league. Good position to be in nonetheless.

Liverpool is looking mighty good. Kudos to Klopp. He’s got some players I don’t rate and still they play well in his system.

They are playing well above their player's and squad's quality right now. Will be hard or neigh impossible for them to maintain that level for the whole season.

That's a nice analogy. We've become a lot more comfortable without the ball and the opposition just doesn't seem to know what to do with the ball against us. Crystal Palace is probably the best side we've played this side in terms of performance. Says a lot about how we're keeping teams from playing well.

Will be cool when our front three actually find some form this season.

I’d argue we have a very good squad now. There’s one or two minor holes but nothing major.

We need a 10 and to fire mignolet from a cannon into the sun. Gomez looks to be plugging the other major gap.

It helps that guys like Milner Wijnaldum and even Sturridge are stepping it up so far.

Playing above our quality ?? we haven't even got out of 2nd gear yet, we're playing well but no were near the level we can and this thing that we run out of steam which i see a lot on here, let me tell you now that's a myth, Liverpool don't run out of steam, we didn't last season or the season before so why would we this season with an even bigger squad?.

Theirs no argument about it, we have an excellent squad now, what are these 2 minor holes you're on about ?

They are 1 of 3 teams on fire. The first 2 go on a blip will let a front runner get a 5 or so point lead and then we will have a proper race. Till then it's all tit for tat.

City and Chelsea have had pretty piss easy fixtures so far. We've had a fairly difficult start to the season and have come through it well. We play them both in the next couple of weeks; we will know a lot more once those fixtures are done.

Good thing they didn't manage to buy Fekir. Would have improved their bench significantly compared to Shaqiri.

The intricate one touch play today was amazing, all players were good and even the “one season wonder flop” mo salah reverted to being world class atleast for one day before he turn shit again according to folks

Your squad's/1st eleven individual quality are way below City's and on par with United/Chelsea. Your manager is making your players look much more than the sum of their parts, IMO. I'm not saying you aren't playing very well and deserve to be top, but realistically, you can only expect a team to play as well as the players are individually. Squad quality wise, you should be somewhere between 4th and 2nd at best and unless you guys are massively overachieving (or City crumbling), I still cannot see you winning the league. There is only so much a manager can do for his team, and Pep is certainly no bad league coach either.

oh yeah, does that mean that if they add truly world class players they can play even better? So funny compared to our squad which I guess is at least on a similar level considering all positions but we can't string a pass together

Think this was certainly valid last season but not so much this. I'd put our first XI right up there with City's best 11. Squad wise they are stronger, yes - they are a juggernaut.

Who have you played of significant quality? Wasn't there a bullet point saying you won all these fixtures last season, to date?

I agree we'll get much more clarity in a few weeks.

City have played Arsenal away, Liverpool have played Tottenham away at Wembley. I would say both teams have had very even starts in terms of opposition. Fairly difficult start? West Ham, Palace, Brighton, Leicester and Soton? Kidding me?

City have definitely had a kinder fixture list so far. Chelsea too. Good thing we are still unscathed though. On we go!

The counterpoint is that those tactical tweaks mean your front 3 is unlikely to be as explosive as last season(then again, Salah turning into prime Cristiano Ronaldo had a lot to do with that), but on the hand you're genuinely scary on set pieces

The problem with 'belief' is that sometimes the hard, obdurate facts of life come along and flatten it. Whether that happens majorly this season remains to be seen, but I think it's better for United fans to deal with the current situation with caution and equanimity; at any rate, a terse, even-handed admission that Liverpool are doing well for the time being will provide their fans with far less ego-fuel than yer "It's going to blow up in your faces" mockery-in-waiting type broadsides.

Interesting that Klopp got Shaq off at HT, he said that he wasn't doing his defensive work very well, mainly down to the lack of training time yesterday. Explains why Klopp reverted to the 433 system in the second half. :)

I still think thats laughable tbh mate, if thats your opinion then fair enough pal but.....

Our starting 11 is "way" below Citeh's??

We have a defence that has the best record in the league of the last 33/34 games played in the EPL even more cemented with VVD and Alisson and the revelation of Robertson and emergence of TAA, an attack regarded as "one" of the best in Europe

and a midfield that has no doubt been strengthened with additions in Keita Shaqiri and Fabinho

Yes I totally agree Citeh's overall "squad" is stronger, they have pretty much a top top quality back up player in every starting 11 position

but as far as starting 11 and the bench goes, there isn't "that" much in it I don't think

Saying we are way behind is ridiculous, we have some incredible quality now, starting and on the bench

7 wins in 7 with two big wins against Spurs and PSG are "signs" we are a different animal

From your 1st eleven, maybe your attack is individually as good as Sané-Agüero-Sterling, but your midfield and defense aren't. Keita will need a couple of months to settle in (Fabinho probably even longer) and there is absolutely none that even come close to KDB/Silva in terms of sheer individual brilliance. Gomez/TAA are still basically (very promising) kids and from that perspective, only VVD is probably individually better than their City counterparts, while your goalkeepers are comparable. That is without even considering their insane squad depth and their playing style which is tailor made for league games IMO. This isn't meant to downplay your achievements in anyway, I just think that all things considered (huge gulf in squad quality overall AND playing style), City are still by far the biggest favorites for the league.
