Liverpool - 2017/18

Yeah, like Klopp is too pure a football man to accept paying 70 million. It's hilarious. He also spent £40 million on chamberlain and 60 million on Keita. He doesn't give a feck. He's a hypocrite and should shut his mouth about our transfers.
Aye kinda like Mou whinging about oil money while oil money won him the league at Chelsea, all trainers are hypocrits.

It's hilarious because your entire fan base have been saying the complete opposite for 25 years.

Welcome to the dark side Liverpool fans, no room for excuses over here.
No room for excuses? Are you kidding me? This place is filled with excuses, as to why City is better than you atm, but I wouldn't say it's your ENTIRE fan base who complains about them spending more money than you.

Excuses are what fans use to justify , why their team is not good enough. And you're right.. Liverpool haven't been good enough to win the league for the last 28 years. No excuses.

If rumours are to be believed that they're in for Akanji from Basel and an expensive GK - possibly Butland - that's probably a near £200m outlay on players.

However, they haven't spent all that much the previous couple of seasons so are probably due a splurge of sorts, and they have plenty of deadwood they can get rid of (Mignolet, Flanagan, Lovren, Sturridge, Markovic, Origi etc) that they should be able to get £100m+ from if they manage to get rid of them all.

So they may not necessarily have to sell Coutinho, that's if he can be convinced to stay based on what they're building and/or if Barca don't come back in for him. I'd certainly be very intrigued to see him stay and be part of this new team they're looking to build next year, could be very exciting.

The gap between Liverpools attack and the rest of the team is insane.

If we sign Butland we're begging for another Mignolet situation, awful keeper.

Just give Karius a run. Re evaluate in the summer

I believe midfield is our weakest part atm. Can is unstable and wants out, Wijnaldum can't pass quickly, Hendo only has workrate and is injured half of the time, Milner is old. Ox is not yet fully injected, Coutinho can't play each game and is rather useless in defense. If we are to rest players we have no one to play in MF next game.
We need Keita and someone else, and it's only if COuts stays. If he goes we need 3 additions.

I'm pretty sure Can is gone for free and Couts stays at least till summer. Then we'll see. Maybe Grujic, Woodburn and Wilson will be given a chance.

Don't think Milner has the atheleticism to play in at CM at this stage of his career, should only be brought on as a sub. Can was decent today after that early blip but would really like to see Ox given a run of games in the midfield. Mane's form is a worry, he needs a goal soon to regain his mojo.

Your midfield is good. A box-box/defensive midfielder is missing but attacking power is amazing. Just too early to say Van Dijk can help the defense out of weakest part but if you can fix the back like Man City did you'll be a real title challenging threat next season.

It’s a fluff piece, nothing more nothing less.

Paul Joyce is a Duncan Castles type for LFC.

Difference is United fans take everything Castles says with a pinch of salt whereas Liverpool fans lap this sort of stuff up.
Having seen what Castles was posting after your game today, I’d say he’s on a whole other level to Joyce...and every other journalist out there.

I think Klopp was wrong to comment re the price of Pogba, but I partly understand why he did, as he genuinely does not believe it’s a reasonable amount to spend, and I suspect he’d say the same about VVD. After all he didn’t agree the fee with Southampton, nor contribute to the money sided negotiations, and never does. If he thinks the amounts are too much, then he thinks they are too much. Privately, I can imagine him saying ‘wow, that’s mental!’

Liverpool are now starting to dine at the top table with transfer fees, and it’s about time too, for a team with the 7th largest income in world football. Net spend also comes in to it, with FSG’s net spend being around 20 million for each window before the past summer. Publicly Klopp has said that the VVD purchase is not dependent on Barca coming in for Cout, but privately, for all we know, it’s already done. (Ala Ronaldo with Madrid).

Klopp has never ‘spent’ this kind of money, nor have Liverpool. He beat Bayern to the title twice in Germany, having spent significantly less, and I am confident he will drive Liverpool forward, but whether he can overturn teams, such as UTD, City and Chelsea, with even bigger budgets, remains to be seen. I suspect City are entering a period of dominance similar to those enjoyed by LFC and MUFC, but hopefully I’m wrong, but Pep is Pep.

We have enough attacking power in the front three. What we lack is a proper cover from midfield for our defenders. We are often found with one/both of our fullbacks in an attacking position, so we need someone from midfield to track back and help the two centerbacks. Henderson could do that, but he's close to useless in creation, and, again, injured half of the time. Can is too error-prone in this role. And you don't want to leave any kind of CB 1-on-1 vs a proper attacker.
We need a CM who has physicality of Can, desire of Henderson and a decent defensive traits. I bet this would immediately make our defense look twice as solid with the same personnel.

This absolutely makes sense! An effective defensive midfielder often acts as a shield of the defense. He makes players behind him confident as well.

It appears they're selling Coutinho afterall...

Are you about that Nike thing? We've seen it all before, this summer actually. I'm quite tired of this dirty tactics. Wonder if we manage to find something and report Barca just after Atletico did. May actually get them a ban, teach them a lesson.

We've seen all this last Summer. Just the Spanish press ramping it up for their readers. The 'to be announced and introduced to Barca fans next Tuesday' was absolutely hilarious !

Absolutely no way he's leaving this January so just sit back and enjoy the January Barca media comedy show !

Would be you happy with this signing? I feel you need a quality CM more than Coutinho but he's doing very well in midfield 3 these days.

I'm on the fence honestly. There seems to be sufficient interest on both sides which means it is an inevitability, just a question of when. I prefer the idea of a true winger/forward and grooming midfielders like Samper, Alena and even Arthur if it materializes. Coutinho is quality, no question so yes he could work

Am I right in saying that the African Cup of Nations is on in a few weeks but Egypt or Senegal didn't make it? If that is true, how lucky are Liverpool that they won't be losing Salah or Mane.

African cup of nations has been rescheduled to be played in the summer , won't be played in the winter again

No. You’re not. It’s not till 2019 and regardless the tournament now takes place in the summer.

Can’t see us selling midway through the season.

I think you’ll probably get him in the summer though.

If we made an agreement with Coutinho then he might be off in January. Can't tell either way. Would explain why we never rest him in games, he's nearly always playing full 90 minutes.

I’d like to think that if that’s the case, then his replacement is already lined up. Lemar has been mentioned.

He's had plenty of breaks missing : Watford, both Hoffenheim matches, Hertha (H), in fact the whole of August thru 13th Sept (8 matches), played 14' vs Sevilla, 45' vs Leicester (LC), missed Huddersfield, Maribor, West Ham, Stoke, and Everton (12'). He has however played most of the past 5 games in December but that's not surprising as he's got to be the freshest player in the squad ! Probably deserves a break but doubt he will get it against Burnley . against Everton in the FAC perhaps.

Supposedly we are after this guy (keeping Ederson out of the Brazil team) :

Excellent stats too :

Just further emphasises that it's worth giving Karius a run till the summer and seeing if he can replicate/improve on his Mainz performances. Will let us find out conclusively if it's a system or personell problem.
