Liverpool - 2017/18

The reports that stated City were in for him also made clear Pep saw him as, on paper at least, 3rd choice behind Stones and Otamendi.

I'm not sure about 3rd choice but I think he will have been told his spot isn't guaranteed and he will face fierce competition. At Liverpool he will play every game when he is fit.

I've no idea how this one will work out. I rate him highly as a centre back, there is just a couple of factors giving me some hope.

1. Southampton defensive players seem to struggle outside of the Southampton system.
2. Defenders have a lot more work under Klopp's system so it'll be interesting to see how he copes with that and the pressure of 70m on his shoulders...

Pogba wouldn't get into a world 11 neither.

A lot of money but I'm guessing the Liverpool fans don't care.
Pogba was literally in the official FIFPro World XI when we bought him. You've just spent similar money on a guy who's not even remotely considered as one of the top 100.

75 million for a centre back is taking transfer fees even further into insanity. Van Dijk is a good ball playing centre back, but I'd rather have Bailly every day of the week, as I like tough tackling traditional defenders. He should improve Liverpool, their defence being their obvious weakness. If they sort themselves out at the back, they could become very dangerous.

I'd like to see us sign another really top class CB. Jones is never fit and Smalling and Rojo are always liable to do something stupid.

Reports say they are after this fella called Akanji from Basel.

I know money isn't an issue for you, but I don't think even City would pay £60m for someone just to be third choice CB.

Yeah the whole story doesn't make much sense to me. Not convinced we were in for him this window to be honest.

Just seen that we've had a £30m bid accepted by Basel for him and we'll loan him back to them for the remainder of the season. Hopefully there's something in this

Do you know anything about him?

Not much other than he's a better option than what we have. Other people with much more knowledge than me have been raving about him so hopefully it comes off.

He is now the second best center back in world football according to scousers :wenger:

I mean he is coming from the Swiss league. He might not actually be better than Lovren/Matip.

Been reports Dortmund and Liverpool are fighting over him. That Dortmund want him right away and Liverpool are willing to wait, which Basel prefer due to the Champions League.

Klopp working on the weaknesses. Keita could prove a terrific signing as well. Liverpool could be a real force next season.

Given that Wolfsburg have sold Mario Gomez, it seems likely they´ll make Origi a permanent deal. Then you got Sturridge, who´ll probably leave and Liverpool should be able to recover about €50M this window.

That's the hope but every team will once again strengthen in the summer so who knows what we'll be up against. I like that we're giving ourselves a chance though by buying top rated players rather than mediocre ones and just praying they come good.

They'll be lucky to get 30m for Sturridge.

Injury prone 28 year old.

Hate to admit it but Liverpool (and Klopp in particular) is building a scintilating squad. His attack is there or thereabouts. Has some decent bodies in Midfield now (arguable) with likes of Coutinho, Wjinaldum, Can, Milner, etc. And now it feels he's sorting out the defence. :nervous:

lets just hold that thought...

Unless Coutinho goes in January, where are they getting the money from? They’ve spend an absolute fortune this last year or so.

As mentioned before by a poster, we apparently had a budget of 150m in the summer and the only one we really spent money on was Salah. I'm not sure how the Keita deal is structured.

Reality is, him (the poster) and you know just as much as anyone in the public about LFC budget - which is NOTHING. It's all speculation in the end isn't it?

Coutinho, Can , both leaving. Wjinaldum is never going to be anything better than a squad player. The caf would hate him if he was at Utd. Milner? Ok. Don't know if you're even being serious now.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lovren has threatened to leave if he is just backup. Southampton have an opening, maybe they'll throw 20-25m our way for him in the summer? By then we should have VvD, Matip, Akanji, Klavan and Gomez.

Or they'll offer £10m and tell you to wise up. I don't even think they'd want him back, his confidence is shot. What PL team would pay more considering the shit fest he had been showing the last 2 years?

Lots of PL clubs will (over)pay for a top four defender with PL and CL experience. 20m is starter price nowadays.

No they won’t. Just because transfer fees are crazy doesn’t mean Clubs will throw away/waste money on useless players like Lovren. You say Top 4 with CL experience, but he was a complete liability any game he played, so he doesn’t matter what experience he has.
