Liverpool - 2017/18

Hope to feck not and Ox is a good depth option but we need more he can't be a primary target. We're still 3 short I feel but getting minimum 2 in needs to be an urgent priority.
Prepare yourself to be massively disappointed in that case mate :)

Carragher saying Arsenal should sell Sanchez and get a player in that wants to be at the club..

Cough cough.. Coutinho.

As a Utd fan I'm very happy if that is Liverpool done this transfer window.

I don't think they've addressed any of their real problems, they're one or two injuries away from a defensive crisis.

Don't speak too soon. Still plenty of time for them to sign a goal keeper and a good defender.

i'm not one of those who believe liverpool need VVD, but looking at their depth...good gods, after lovren-matip, their depth is made up entirely of hopes and wishes, and probably one James Milner

at this point, anything is better than nothing

They could've easily improved their defence this window, chose to chase one player and are no worse off for it, if things stay as they are.

The Ox signing confuses me. I must be missing something because I'm sure he was always marketed as Walcott v2.0. A quick, flying winger but someone who needed to develop his final ball/ decision making. Now all of a sudden Liverpool have decided to sign him and drop him in to centre midfield alongside Can and Henderson?
Don't get me wrong, further forward they do look good with Salah and Mane but with Sturridge sidelined so regularly I'm surprised they've let Origi leave for the rest of the season.
The hierarchy there must surely take the blame for getting told off over their attempts to sign VVD. When you desperately need to strengthen the defence, the last thing you need to be doing is upsetting a club that has a good one who may be interested in joining you.
If I was a Liverpool fan, I certainly wouldn't be any more optimistic about winning any trophies than I was a month ago.
Having said that, I'd still be much more positive than if I was an Arsenal fan!!

It's their defensive set-up and attention to detail when it comes to things like set-plays that are the most costly difference.

Of course anyone can see Van Dijk is much better than Klavan and Lovren but some of their defensive issues and frailties will still persist whether they sign him or not.

They've consistently conceded around fifty goals for the past three/four seasons (correct me if I'm wrong Pool fans) but even if they do sign him I still reckon they'd concede about forty to forty-five. They are just an attack-minded side that function that way.

Local news reporting just now Saints are still saying they wont be selling VVD the transfer window.

Here's what's gonna happen. They won't sign Van Dijk/Lemar but will squeeze enough points to get top 4 at the cost of Arsenal and Spurs. Next year is their year.
To be honest I think I'd take that. The attack should be functioning well, Keita in to strengthen the MF in both defence and attack and hopefully a VVD deal (or another equal or better CB) can be done and maybe finally the GK issue can be resolved which would give us a really solid team capable of seriously challenging for trophies. Maybe a couple of those deals could be in January even (unlikely but still a possibility).

What a come down for the scousers. Getting giddy the past 24 hours dreaming of Lemar and Van Dijk. Calm down.

Do you ever post anything that isn't an attempted wind up ? A quick check of your short history shows little to no actual content.

To be fair, he isn't wrong.
(I didn't expect either, so whatever :D)

Just checked my history and I don't see any wind ups in there. A bit of cynicism is as bad as it gets.

I would be able to handle this window if we'd got VVD over the line. But the fact we're sat here again in this position is utter utter fecking negligence.

I don't get why Liverpool fans are so downbeat in here to be honest.
We were the club with the most to do and we've failed to do it. If I had to explain it in detail it'd take 4 succinct paragraphs and I still wouldn't get the point across.

It's not been a brilliant window granted but it's not all doom and gloom. Looks like you've kept Coutinho too so that can't be bad.

Is it true that Klopp basically identifies a primary target (e.g. VVD) and if he can't get him he'd rather just get no one instead of going for a 2nd or 3rd choice?

I don't get it with Liverpool. They went after VVD so they clearly understood where their problem area was. Then they back off and entirely didn't buy anyone else. Was there absolutely no other CB out there they could possibly get?

The message will sink in Dec/Jan at which point fans will point to the summer and repeat ad infinitum

Looks like you're going for the trying to outscore the opposition route and strangle teams in the first 20 mins. Risky, but Rodgers almost pulled it off.
The league is way stronger now. United, City, Spurs and Chelsea all much stonger. It's way more competitive too, bottom team's pick points of the big teams all the time.

Bit torn about Liverpool's window. Salah has kicked off, Keita (next year) seems clever and Ox I think will fit their set-up brilliantly. And they keep their best player. So all that I don't like. On the other hand you have obvious holes at the back that are left unfixed. All in all I am unsure whether to be worried or pleased.

That's true but I fancy this Liverpool team to score at least two a game, just depends if their defence can hold out. If they can kill games off early like Rodgers did in that almost-season then I can still see them doing well even without strengthening the defence. Haven't they bought Robertson though? Will he play?

This is pretty much how I see it too.

I don't think that is/was the issue at all. Klopp sold VVD on Liverpool, that he would be our main man in defence and the whole saga was based on that. I've no doubt Klopp will keep to his word to VVD (as a matter of honour since VVD has clearly kept to his re. it's Liverpool and nowhere else for him) and go after him again come January or next Summer and we'll in the meantime have passed go and not collected 200 GBPs.

Overall I think this was a good transfer window for a club owned by FSG. In fact, it was one of the best we've had, we even bought a player in August, that's a rare thing to see if you're a Liverpool fan.
I know fans on Twitter are in meltdown, but it's really not the club's fault that the fans expect the impossible.
Sure, buying a CB should be a priority.
Sure, the club instead bought bunch of attack-minded players.
But, all of that was expected. And unless Keita injures himself and is out for a season, there's no reason to moan.

Plus, I was completely sure that once we've signed Robertson, our transfer window was done, so Oxlade-Chamberlain actually came as a complete surprise. If Klopp thinks there's still hope for him, then I do too, feck it. He wouldn't be the first player to massively improve under Klopp.

There's also the fact we'll probably get to see Coutinho play for us again, so all in all, this is as good of a team as I would expect FSG's penny pinching and Klopp's German idealism to assemble.

I like what I've seen. Superb crosser, thoughtful attacker and doesn't launch himself into tackles (esp. in the box) a la Moreno. Don't get why Klopp still seems to prefer Moreno at this stage, especially after almost selling him this window.

I imagine it's frustrating for Liverpool fans, they are great going forward. If they addressed there defense they would proper challenge for silverware. Unfortunately you don't win anything of note with a poor keeper or defense in the long run.

That's a nice sentiment but where does it leave the Liverpool squad? Klopp's job is to do the best for Liverpool and not VVD.

I'd say you guys could really use an upgrade this window. A few dropped points could mean everything at the end of the season. Surely the best thing to do would be to bring in a CB who would replace Lovren immediately and then if VVD is available in winter, then go for him as well and let Lovren find another club.
