Liverpool - 2017/18

I bet he's contractually obliged to say daft shit like that. If he truly believes that...

He's doing what Fergie did when the Glazers were being tight with the transfer kitty.

Klopp knows FSG are penny pinchers so comes out with the "our squad is fine" routine.

Klopp's lost his marbles if he's being serious about the four CB thing. Though I think (hope) it's just a ploy.

In regards to the bolded part, don't you think if we start poorly serious scrutiny would be on Klopp
rather than the owners? Considering he seems more than content with the situation of the squad. Time and time again he's confirmed he has the final say so why would the owners get the blame? Unless we are saying FSG aren't making the funds available and moves for players deemed unattainable (Keita) is just for show to say "at least we tried".

Disregarding results entirely, if we make no more signings this window then for me, FSG would be under serious scrutiny. If ever there was an opportunity to invest it was this summer. Yet here we are scratching our balls with only one major signing five days before the season begins, having completely fecked up the VVD transfer.

They keep saying they want to win, but I'm yet to see any palpable evidence of this.

Name five centerbacks that would make Liverpool stronger?

Every Centerback form Spurs, Chelsea, City, United, Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern etc etc etc.

Now if the question was 5 they had a realistic chance of getting, then I agree with him, there isn't a lot of choice.
A couple of decent ones they could probably get....

Sokratis, Tah, Glik, Kjaer, Manolas.

It's ridiculous to think there are no Centre Backs in football better than Lovren which we can attain.

This is the outcome I would prefer. Him leaving this summer is out of the question if we want to compete. On the case of his value though, do you have any idea why people would think we would consider selling him below £100 mil? It wouldn't even be entertained imo.
If by 'people' you mean the Brazilian or Spanish press, whilst the British press are saying £120-135m ? Then that's the clubs, or supposed ITKs, feeding them.

It's more Klavan that is the problem, no way is he good enough as 3rd choice.
Reading between the lines it seems like it's Van Dijk or nobody for us, which isn't great as it doesn't look likely that will happen.

We've been trying to spend 120m already this summer without luck. I don't see how adding another 120m and a desperate need to spend it well to replace our best player is going to improve matters.

I think aside from Solanke and Robertson, Klopp identified 3 players to improve us Salah, Keita and Van Dijk. My guess is he won't buy anyone else for the sake of it as especially given the current money being paid for players, as in his eyes they are not significantly better than what we have.

Most fans though would say we need a big improvement at CB and possibly in CM too - but I suppose that was going to be Keita and Van Dijk. It's possible they were our only targets and we aren't looking at any others.

He also appears to see Kent as a first team player now, which is fair enough, so even he could be considered as cover and back up for Mane and Salah (maybe even Lallana).
Moreno is obviously back in favour too.

Sakho is still not in his plans and Markovic perhaps likely to move also.

RBL showed with Keita that every player actually doesn't have a price. Chelsea, City, or United wouldn't sell their best player unless the player kicked up a fuss about wanting to go. Letting Coutinho go right on the eve of the new season would be a massive statement of non-intent from our owners. Ambitious clubs show ambition. Profit before prizes will be the new mantra at Anfield, whereas at one time all profits made by the club were reinvested into the playing squad so we could win more trophies. 1 poxy League Cup in 11 years shows how far we've fallen on that score.

There are many CBs who will improve Liverpool's defense and I'm not talking about insane fee either. I think maybe he though VDV was in the bag as (apparently) he talked with him before the season ended. Still can't believe Liverpool targeted only 1 player per position as it's near impossible to get all the first choice targets even for clubs that throws away big money.

I think Salah will be a bench strengthener, not a starter per se.

Hard to say. His competition is Lallana in midfield. So a lot will be weighed against how good coutinho is in midfield as well, vs Salah on the wing.

The way he has started, he looks good to start though (and Lallana injured for now makes it an easy choice). Also, there is something alluring about having a winger on each flank who is absolutely rapid.

Especially with Mane switching to the left and Mo on the right allowing them to cut in on their strong foots. We'll get some lovely attacking football this season, but I want trophies first.

So, most of you would want to hold onto Coutinho instead of cashing 100m.

What if you don't win any trophies and drop out of the top 4? Would you regret having held onto him? Or in other words, you'd have missed out on Barcelona's 100m and you'd have lost a big chunk of attractiveness for potential replacements.

At least right now Barcelona have lots of cash to spend and you have CL (qualification) to offer.

The point is that 100m wouldn't buy us a proper replacement at this stage. Having them in the bank might cheer up fsg but I don't see how it helps our sporting Terms. Spurs are welcome to the 'we're most financially prudent team in the league' trophy now that arsenal have realised it's a shit trophy.

I agree it'd be useless in the bank, you can only sell him if you find a replacement. It could work for you, but it could also go tits up. It could be your make or break decision.

VVD will end up at Chelsea, and Coutinho will hand in a transfer request, probably tomorrow.

I don't see this going any other way, knowing how this club operates.

Liverpool can't exactly go back for VVD now after releasing that public statement, can they?

The position of the club is that once Southampton make it known that they are receptive to bids, then we will bid.

Surely, Chelsea are ok at the back, aren't they?

They are fine. it's City we need to worry about. But I'm not sure after their spending this summer, if City can Justify a 70m outlay. That's Southampton's asking price apparently.

Although City have strong interest in Mbappé so one cannot be sure.

Can a Oligarch from Russia not buy Liverpool off these awful American owners?

This plays out 2 ways from here on in.

Guess what Van Dijk ends up at a oil club and we lose Couthino till the flat track bullies of Barcelona.

MELTDOWN IN 3,2,1

OR

We out bid the oil company teams and get Van Dijk and keep Couthino from the bullies, and then March on to knock both Chelsea and Barcelona out of the champions league before playing PSG in the final. #DREAMING

#FSGIN OR #FSGOUT (who knows) whatever will be will be. yada yada

How reliable is the source? They're referring to a brazilian source. Seems dodgy to me.

No reliable sources so far. There's been a lot of tweets on Coutinho to Barca today, but all of them seem to originate from WhateverSport Blablazil hearing some random guy's friend saw a tweet of an unnamed ITK whose granny knows all the stuff for sure. There's been a lot of similar rumors from similar sources on Dembele, Dybala and partially Mbappe in the last few days.
Tbh this seems like a panic call from Barca in all directions trying to determine which party shows weakness first. Once they find a weak link they'll throw all they have in that direction.

Personally I see no indication of Phil pushing for a move. He signed a new deal half a year ago and didn't negotiate a buyout clause. His close friend just left Barca for the other club, and his other close friend plays with him in LFC currently.
Selling him now would be a huge blow to the team, and will surely cause rebellion against FSG among the fanbase. We need to hold onto him for now, Barca is in decline so who knows what the standings will be next year...

The reliable sources I follow for City news have all stated that City have not had any interest in van Dijk for a long time. Some interest at the beginning of the summer but soon ended once it became clear how much Southampton wanted, and the player preferred Liverpool.

Think City are looking for another attacking player.

Liverpool has been crowned the 'UK's Greatest Sporting City for 2017' in a new study released on Tuesday.

Research carried out by ESPN and the University of Bath ranked Liverpool in first place after it scored highly in many of the 12 factors that fans identified as vital to defining a city as a great sporting location, including Choice (second), Venues (third), History (third) and community and social (both fourth).

Manchester was ranked second and London third in the overall study - which involves surveying thousands of supporters and analysing other data - while Liverpool also came out on top in the poll to identify the UK's best city to be a football fan.

What a shambles of a window.

Started out on a high with going after Keita and VVD, then ended up with eggs on their face in both cases, especially so in the VVD saga.

Now it seems like they might lose their best player instead, without getting any of their targets outside of Tikka Mosalah.

"Redmen coming up the hill, la" - hah, more like redmen tumbling off a cliff.

WTF. FSG are going to pay big time. Carra was right, there are going to be riots.

Will you take to the streets of Shanghai with your banner?

So soon after the Premier League Asia Trophy open bus parade as well :(
