Liverpool - 2017/18

Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “This is certainly not news we would have wanted.

“Unfortunately, the damage is such that it will likely mean Adam is out for a couple of months not weeks, so I think we can pretty much rule him out of August and September.

“Beyond that we will monitor and wait and see.
He is a boy with a world-class attitude to everything professionally and he has always come back in good time from injury setbacks since I have been here, so we will see.”

Is it an injury he got in a match or has he gotten geggeninjured?

Lallana injury is a blow though i am not sure assuming Salah and Mane both start that he would have been in the stating 11 versus Watford.
Maybe a chance for young Ejaria to get into the squad as back up.

Clearly though we have an important few weeks ahead in the transfer window as midfield (as well as centre back), were positions Klopp wanted to strengthen.

People talk about his finals record. The fact he's made it to that many finals suggests he's won some crunch games along the way to get there.
Beat Mourinho with an inferior team in the 2013 semi-final. He's alright in my book.

Liverpool has appeared to make him more senile though. I don't remember him being like this at Dortmund.

This is shit news because you just know Lallana won't be ready until Feb/Mar (always the way). And if Coutinho aggravates something coming back he'll be out until Xmas. Sturridge is Sturridge so I expect him to be out for the season by mid August.

Too much pressure on Salah and Mane too soon.

Now Liverpool will have the excuse of injuries as to why they didn't win the league. It's a huge loss for them mind.

Just a random thought that popped into my head... remember when Liverpool fans were singing "we're gonna win the league... and now you're gonna believe us!"

Hahaha. That went well. Liverpool 13/14 were a gift during the dark times of the Moyesiah era.

Coutinho didn't train yesterday or travel to Dublin?

Back issue - him and Sturridge left out as a precaution.

Coutinho negotiation ongoing with Barca.

ITKs say no injury

If Liverpool have any ambition about them they'll do everything they can to keep a hold of Coutinho. How are they gonna ever get anywhere when all their talents feck off to Barca every couple seasons?

Kelly is probably one of the better ITKs though the real insiders such as Pearce have said nothing :

Coutinho is thought to be the top target for Barca following Neymar’s £200m transfer to Paris St-Germain.

Speaking on the Code Red podcast, Kelly said: "Everyone was seeing Coutinho as the eventual successor to Andres Iniesta, but now I think it's deemed he will be the successor to Neymar, which is strange.

"I thought he'd want to play with Neymar. Maybe the plans have come forward a year.

"I did actually hear if Neymar does go, and we secure our targets, then Coutinho would go to Barcelona.

"But since Klopp has come out (basically saying 'no chance') it's a bit like the Red Bull situation.

"It's the undoable deal If we let him go now, we look like absolute d***heads. It's the same with Red Bull. If they let Naby Keita go now...

"The club are still confident on Keita but I just think it's farcical if they do let him leave the club. It's the exact situation."

The only way I could accept it is if we were to sign all of our targets and a suitable replacement for Coutinho. Obviously no one is the same but Keita, VVD + 1 top player at AM (Veratti for example, though we wouldn't get him, we could however drop Firmino into that slot and buy Auba, again maybe an impossible to do at this stage though) would be more than OK. Team over individual in this case. Of course I'd prefer not selling him at all but at the suggested fee of ca. £135m there's no question FSG must consider it because it's an obscene amount of money ! However the main issue is there is simply no time left to get these deals done - hence probably fake news.

I don't think Coutinho is going anywhere this season. In fact, he has done much lesser than Suarez who was shouting from rooftops in Uruguay during his holiday.

Also, the money received for Coutinho will prove useless because all clubs that Liverpool would be dealing with after that transfer would charge obscene amount of money. I could see the Torres - Andy Carrol situation happening all over again.

I dont think its impossible especially if the player pushes for the move.
I think in that case that he'll get a gentlemans agreement to go next year to allow the club to make the necessary replacements. I think he would accept that. Seems to me like he is quite happy there atm.

Possible, but Barcelona will not wait a year to replace Neymar. In his head, this opportunity might not come to him again and he'll have to think about it a lot.

They have some exellent players in reserve so I don't think 'replacing' Neymar with Coutinho is an imperative. In fact I don't think Coutinho is about replacing Neymar at all .. he's to replace Iniesta. Personally I think Eriksen would be just as good for Barca though all the chatter is Messi wants Alli. As with Suarez I doubt Barca would have an issue waiting a year if a 'gentlemen's agreement could be reached.

This guy is a REAL ITK. Goes on tour with Liverpool, access to players etc.

Indeed. Joyce, Pearce and Reddy are on the Liverpool patch. If they're saying something then it's come from a credible source.

What irritates me is when one of these report an interest in a player but it comes to nothing - they get pelters for being "wrong". This is where Twitter is absurd, it's not wrong to report links and interest. It's only wrong when ITKs start saying "done deal" etc. The credible journos don't speak in such terms unless it is actually a done deal.

Just from a PR perspective, Barca's fans expect the club to react to losing Neymar. Coutinho is definitely not a like for like for Neymar, he's not a replacement. Still Barca have been linked to 3 or 4 players and it seems like Coutinho is one of them so he might have a decision to make.

Well the more you think about it the more Antoine Griezmann looks like the perfect Neymar replacement. Coutinho for Iniesta next Summer and Griezmann for Neymar in January ?

Rumours that Juve might come in for Can too. This transfer window could still wind up being hilarious.

Well that was probably, when Liverpool still thought they could get Keita this summer and especially before Lallana got injured.

Since we were done signing players back in July, I think now it is quite clear the FSG had no intentions of actually giving Klopp a better squad for this year. I wouldn't even mind it, if the three players we did get would actually be here to, you know, fix the actual problems. But all three of them are attack-minded, and only Robertson is sort of a defender. So essentially the club and the owners have decided that Liverpool FC should go into the new season with none of the problems fixed, with the same fragile defensive unit, the same out-of-depth midfield, except we have no idea if Can is even staying beyond this season, and with... more strikers and wingers. Boosted in the department that had no problems whatsoever, still weak every where else.

I'm completely baffled at that move. Once again, they failed to sign their primary targets with the exception of Salah despite promises that this time they're going to deliver. Normally I'd just shrug and walk away from this issue, but I believe we were supposed to play the CL (or alternatively EL, if Hoffenheim win) this season. Normally, when normal clubs with normal owners hear they'll be forced to play way more games this season, they prepare by adding more players, and if they lack resources to do so, they sell the players they don't need.

But here we are in August. Nobody left, and only one first team player arrived. To a position with depth, while CB and DM are still massive weak points. It's almost unbelievable, if you're not already familiar with FSG lies.

They can't use that excuse when Klopp still has 3 weeks to remedy this issue.

FSG are Liverpool's issue though, always will be. They're penny pinchers.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of the Glazers. But at least they give proper money to their managers to compete. FSG want to win the league "the cheap way."

Actually, I don't even think they give a crap about trophies. They just want to be in the CL every season.

4th is the new 1st for Liverpool and it's fanbase.

Why are you giving the owners all the blame? Maybe Klopp isn't interested in signing back up options.

@Lizard I get you aren't overly keen on FSG but there is still 3 weeks left of the transfer window, don't you think the club is probably biding it's time trying to get the right player? Knowing that Klopp likes his signings made early I can see why some fans would be concerned but maybe I'm just choosing to believe further reinforcements will be made. Nevermind the attack and the midfield I just can't accept Klopp would think our defenders are good enough for a solid PL and Champions league campaign. It would definitely be negligent to not sign another Centre back and my main worry is we are going to be strung along for Van Dijk end up not getting him or anyone else. In that instance we can panic because with our style of play goals will be leaked. We clearly are not going to spend the £200 million transfer kitty we read about at the beginning of June but I don't think any realistic Liverpool fans expected that to happen. I'll judge in the end of August but I must say I'm concerned, we have a great manager but he can only do so much.

Strange that you're not linked to any DM.

Romeu from Southampton would have been ideal, but I guess there won't be much business between the two clubs for the foreseeable future.

We never sign players in August, so for me there's 99% chance it's not happening.
More importantly, I think Klopp's a massive pushover when it comes to transfer market. Or maybe he's just constantly looking for a way to challenge himself, or something. Bet you right now his comments on this will be similar to the "I trust players I have" narrative of the previous transfer window. The results will be similar to the 14/15 season though, I don't see a lot of reasons to be optimistic about this season.

Second time now you've mentioned Romeu in this thread  be honest you would have preferred him to pensioner Matic. Romeu was beastly against us in the cup, most energetic player on the field. But this Southampton shit needs to stop, so they just need to look elsewhere for a DM. That's if the club even thinks they need one. They need to replace Lucas at the very least.

Mentioning a Southampton player just comes natural when it is Liverpool.

Also outside of Matic he is probably the best pure DM in the league, wouldn't have him above Matic though, only thing he has on him is age.

You'll end up with a couple hipster signings from Germany and perhaps France, Klopp will be partially happy and FSG will have saved themselves of true investment once again.

The 14/15 season was dreadful in every way imaginable. I don't even want to think we'll have a season like that. For a start we have a better manager and a better squad from two years ago. But I remember how pitiful those Champions league performances were so I hope to Christ they sign someone.

The last paragraph is what the issue is for some pool fans. We were told the club would make 'substantial investments' in the summer, and they haven't. I mean they still might, who knows. One thing is for sure, you can't expect FSG to do a City and go splurging a quarter of a Billlion. It's not what they do.
