People talk about his finals record. The fact he's made it to that many finals suggests he's won some crunch games along the way to get there.

Clyne pretty much ruled out for the Watford game, I would hope that young Trent may take his place.

Klopp conceded that it is “pretty much impossible” that Clyne will make his return at Vicarage Road.

“He’s on the way back but he’s had no pre-season so far so, for him, it will not only be tight for Watford, it’s pretty much impossible,” he told reporters at the Allianz Arena.


“So we have, in the moment, three options for this position: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe [Gomez] and Jon Flanagan.

“All of them played the position and now we have to bring them through the next one-and-a-half weeks and hopefully Clyney can come back after this. We have to make a decision.”

Apparently, it wasn't an injury, but tiredness. He'd done 3 high intensity training passes that day already.

pre-season regiments are a bit weird.

Not even a debate. Gomez looked very rusty, Flanno looked like he should be sold and AA was just damn excellent.
 
TAA was schooled pretty badly positionally last season, as expected from a young player, but just like Rashford at United he seems to have come strongly judging by his pre-season performances. At the end of the day, the young guys have to play. There is no substitute for playing time. I´d trust him to do a good job against Watford.

It's pre-season so no real reason to celebrate if we had won and no reason to be negative having lost on penalties.

What we do know is Ward is too good to be our 3rd choice keeper and Klavan is nowhere near good enough as a back up central defender.

Yeah, i think to add a tiny bit of balance, there's your point, and also the point Woodward described him as a "genius" a few years back.

That said, his behaviour doesn't half seem a little madcap and piss other teams off. Let alone when you're the other side of the Liverpool-United divide.
The only managers to me that don't end up hated are the ones that are ridiculously out of their depth, like your Moyes and Hodgson types.

Liverpool to submit €17m bid for Rennes midfielder Benjamin André

Le Télégramme are reporting this morning that Premier League side Liverpool are set to submit a formal offer to Rennes for French midfielder Benjamin André next week.

According to an English source contacted by the newspaper, the Reds will offer €17m for the Ligue 1’s interception king (329 interceptions made last season).

Liverpool have scouted the player extensively.

Every manager has a belief in the way football should be played, Klopp certainly isn't alone in that, look at Mourinho, Pep, Poch, Wenger etc., they rarely stray from their tactical set up unless there is a very good reason for it (Wenger going to 3 at the back for example). Here are two massive examples that destroy that theory a) Liverpool usually (unless the opposition adopts the same tactics) change from their normal passing game to a more defensive line-up allowing them to play on the break, against most top teams, this is quite contrary to their normal possession based tactics. They have been spectacularly successful not just last season but in fact since he arrived at the club. b) After the City game in March last season Liverpool played their remaining 9 PL games, thru May, with far more conservative tactics against the nine teams below them than pre-new year, primarily due to injuries to key players (e.g. Mane out) but also because winning points in any fashion was more important than footballing dogma. The result was 6 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat, enabling the club to finish 4th. Gone however was the beautiful swashbuckling attacking football employed thru December.

These facts and the style of play Klopp reverted to, are incontrovertible, despite them being contrary to your stubborn insistence on the accuracy of your perception of Klopp's supposed lack of pragmatism.

We are going round in circles. You can data mine all you want to find examples where your side showed some togetherness to pull through. You cannot however deny the fact that Klopp only has a Plan A, and his plan B is to make Plan A work, which is not pragmatic at all.

I don't look at a sample of games to fit my agenda, unlike yourself. I look at the fact that the man had no European distractions, was able to take his team for luxurious training camps for weeks at a time, got knocked out early on from domestic competitions and still scraped 4th in the Premier League by 1 point. That took because he had no clue how to set up against defensively minded teams or more physical set ups.

If he knew how to often enough, he would have been better placed in his finish.

Seriously, to even hear you complain about key injuries hampering your team, it's stupidity of the highest order. Injury crisis to fixture list is all relative, and you guys had it sweet.

Are you serious? Comparing your injuries relative to fixtures to ours?

It has nothing to do with the club, the idea that you even have a leg to stand on with injury complaints relative to us is beyond ridiculous.

Hoffenheim are the toughest side in that round that Liverpool could have faced.

United drew Club Brugge in the same round two years ago.

Brugge are no Hoffenheim.

Oh in the grand scheme of things no, but in terms of this particular round they're the most difficult we could have gotten maybe Nice too. We should still win over two legs though.
