Liverpool - 2017/18

I am feeling optimistic today and believe that we will get both Keita and VVD.

If we do land both, I am backing us for a title challenge.

I'm on the opposite side atm, think we'll get neither and might even lose Coutinho.

I'm in the middle, think you'll sign Huth and Drinkwater and re-sign Lucas.

I'm pretty sure Leipzig have denied that Keita has a release clause in his contract for next summer.

I don't think it will matter anyway if we don't sign him now as he'll 100% sign a new contract.

If that happens and as long as you keep Coutinho and stay healthy you'll be thereabouts. Or at least in with a shout.

Who will the targets shift to if VVD and/or Keita does not pan out?

It was only one season ago. Luiz was sold to PSG for 50m before that. Stones signed for City for 50m then too. Chelsea had apparently been ready to bid 100m for Pogba a season before ours. Silly prices were being thrown around then as much as now.
Can't compare. Yes there were big fees last Summer but this season it is off the charts. It's insane. Nobody (virtually) is worth the fees being paid unless they keep increasing exponentially in following years, and then amortised over that period they'll be seen to have been worth it (e.g. potentially Pogba) but at the moment of purchase it's impossible to say if it will have been worth it in the end.

I'm discussing Keita (the guy you all won't stop harping on about) and his fee. Surely this is the place to do that given you lot are obsessed with the man?
Are we more or less obsessed than United fans are when they bid on someone ? Oh I see, the same.

It wouldn't surprise me one iota if Klopp was prepared to wait for Keita (assuming he is willing to commit). VVD is another question altogether.

I wouldn't say no to Drinkwater at all (assuming no Keita). He's a cracking player and pretty much what we need and a 'Klopp style' player. Defensive minded but still attacks, good ball-winner and has a Duracell battery in his arse. I'm surprised we haven't been linked TBH.

Word is - none for keita. He's a one off.

No idea who is next in line after vvd. Koulibaly?

Agreed. Funny enough, if Keita signed for 85M now, they´d probably sell Can for 30M. Instead they´ll keep Can, let him walk next summer, sign Keita for 55 and financially it´s exactly the same.

Why is there an assumption that Keita leaves cheaper next season? Contract clause kick in?

I heard it was the other way around. We might go for someone else if Keita is a no go, but we have no other CB options if we can't get VVD. I won't be happy if we end the window with Matip, Lovren, Klavan and Gomez as our CB options.

Haven't seen us linked with any alternatives in either position. We have to sign a centre back I agree.

It would be disastrous. It's the one place we simply have to get better players in.

City may be open to selling John Stones.

I think we will need a midfield enforcer and a quality centre back. So in that sense Keita and VVD make sense however the money being quoted is loopy. I expect Markovic and Sakho to move on. Can't argue with Salah, Solanke and Robertson coming in. Definitely a sense that Jurgen is getting nearer to the squad he wants with nowhere near the amount of departures as last season. Getting 8m for Stewart was astonishing.

I won't be happy if Coutinho is allowed to leave. How are we supposed to get better if we keep selling our best players?

Same, I'd be disappointed with Klopp and FSG even if we should get Keita and VVD. We must keep him at least one more year at all costs.

Klopp has a history of not standing in the way of players who want out. Look at all those top players who went to Bayern, and they were Dortmund's #1 rival. His most cherished player, Mario Gotze, was also let go to Bayern. I can see Liverpool investing all of that rumoured £100M on his replacement(s). Mahrez could be one such candidate.

Gotze had a release clause. Klopp had no choice. And he was there when Dortmund refused to sell Lewandowski to Bayern.

There's simply no scenario in this market where selling Coutinho would work out well for us. Even for well over 100m.

I'm not sure being disappointed in certain individuals at the club is fair in the context of what can drive a transfer. If Liverpool get VVD, should Southampton fans be disappointed with the board and manager? Obviously the Liverpool owners need to do what they can but it can be a tough one to control.

RB Leipzig preparing for Naby Keita exit amid intense Liverpool transfer rumours

Virgil van Dijk also nearing Liverpool move. On the other hand, Barcelona have apparently agreed terms with Barcelona. IF Liverpool are forced into a sale, FSG would ask for north of £100M.
Metro? really ?
Kieta in reality has apologized for the tackle while his teamate has said he doesnt mean the tackle. While the coach is said to be encouraging sharp/ physical training so dint take too long to get over it.
