Liverpool - 2017/18

Have to agree with that. I was gutted when Coutinho left but we're playing even better than we were with him in the side. Klopp has proved to me that as far as transfers go (both incoming and outgoing), He knows what's best.

If you told me at the start of the season that Salah would be our best player and score 40 odd goals, an £8m left-back from Hull would be one of the biggest successes of the season and that we'd be in the Champions League Semi-Final having sold Coutinho, I'd have had you sectioned!

Keita in next season as well, it's a pretty exciting time to be a Liverpool fan

You'd still definitely look better with Coutinho in, it's just your defence improved tremendously that made your whole team looks a lot more balanced.

Keita should fit this system like a glove though. Will be what Gündogan was at Dortmund under Klopp.

Which bookies have you taken those odds from, anfield.com?

I’m in Melbourne mate watching it on Optus TV and they gave those odds during the broadcast. Didn’t say which bookie but I assure you that’s what they said because i remember thinking I would’ve made them closer myself. This is my last post I’m allowed today, sorry :/

Imagine having one of the best seasons in years, after buying the most expensive CB in the world and your newly purchased right winger banging in goals game after game, and still be behind United...

You really think we're arsed about that when we have a CL semi final to focus on?

Won £90, still p*ssed off, gonna roll it all onto Pool to win it.

Makes sense. I was up on my betting and threw money on City to qualify just before the second leg at 4/1. I lost my money but didnt give a feck.

They’ve stepped it up massively in the last few months it has to be said. Yeah we’re ahead of them but let’s be honest we’d all love to be in the position they are now with a CL semi final coming up and Salah in that form.

Let’s hope it’s all a mad dream and they regress next season.

Of course, if we don't win the FA Cup, they have had the better season even if they go out in the semis. 2nd and no cups vs 3rd and CL semis, give me the latter every day. At the fag end of the season, nothing better than being alive in the latter stages of a cup competition.

With Keita coming in, I don't think they will regress. But if we play our cards right, we can always be a step ahead of them. Jose already has the measure of Klopp in the league, hope we meet Liverpool in next season's CL seeing as we will both be in it.

Yeah this is true. They haven’t beaten us since the Moyes season I don’t think so that’s a huge advantage to take in to next season. That and Lukaku hopefully being even stronger next year with some new signings to push us further.

It did look for a while like Klopp was maybe struggling a little but fair play to him I suppose, they have differently reached a level I didn’t think they would this season. Salah is a monster and because he’s pretty quiet and unassuming, hard to really dislike in the same way we’d always despise their other great players.

Gündogan is a way better playmaker.

What are the current odds?
1) City 8/13,
2 Liverpool 5/1,
3) United 13/2,

We did beat you under LVG in the Europa League. It was 2-0 at Anfield and 1-1 at Old Trafford.

What are the current odds?
1) Man City 13/8,
2) Liverpool 6/1,
3) United 8/2.

That's odds checker, though nearly all have us as 2nd favourites. Not that it means much, as you say Randy, lots can happen in the summer. Could change the whole complexion.

Gündogan is a way better playmaker.

Gundogan 105 BL games for Dortmund (10 goals) 13 assists

Keita 54 BL games (13 goals) 13 assists

Of course you´ll now say Gundogan is a much better sideways passer and hockey assist goat. :p

The one thing Liverpool and United have in common is the large gap in quality between ourselves and City. I'm expecting that gap to shrink considerably over the summer with a few quality upgrades in key areas of the pitch, considering there is so much room for improvement from both teams. City on the other hand will struggle to improve an already excellent squad, they can only really bolster their ranks somewhat.

I don't think it is a large gap between us three, it's definitely closed since the opening couple of months. They just got a long way ahead and then maintained it. Us, yourselves and Spurs have all been incredibly consistent for a good few months now.

Our defence has also improved though because we're not carrying a midfielder who doesn't track back. The midfield is much more balanced without Coutinho, which in turn helps the defence. Oxlade-Chambo gets through twice the amount of work that Coutinho ever did (great player though he was).

I think we still have a while before we see the best of Ox as well. I love how he plays, but he’s too inconsistent right now, hopefully it comes with time.

We were trying to shoe horn in to many similar players. Maybe not similar but you get my drift.
I get your drift, though Ox and Lallana are a little different though both have the workrate that Couts doesn’t. The rest are as you say very similar. All more solid than spectacular and so the absence of Couts means we cover our defence better. He is still a loss and with better midfielders like Keita and Jorginho, Coutinho would be ideal.

Anyway, today is 29th anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster. Justice for the 96. May they Rest in Peace.

And being in the Champions League semi-finals. I know who's having the better season. There's a reason why we're 2nd favourites behind City for the league next season, and not United.

They don't give out PL titles for having good odds though unfortunately.

Stats are misleading. Both are fantastic players

Odds in April ‘18 will count for nothing come next season starts, let alone in a years time. That is the time to be favourites, not now.

It'll be interesting to see who we recruit in the summer. We're improving by bringing in Keita, but we're still short one or perhaps even two more midfielders in my opinion. Ox is doing well, and Lallana is impressive when fit, but players like Hendo/Milner/Gini should be squad players at best, and honestly, I'm kinda hoping next season brings a new club captain with it.

JFT96 RIP

Here here.

I don't believe you can bring a captain to a club like ours. At least until the current cap is playing. You can grow one, though. Arnold anyone?

All the same, I think Klopp's building a formidable side. With Van Dijk's arrival even Lovren is looking good and Robertson and Trent are getting better every game.

Karius too, we may not usurp City, but with another Striker to compete with Firmino, and a Centre-Mid to join Keita and replace Can, we're in better shape than for a long time I think.

Of course, you will strengthen too so it's going to be interesting times. It'll be fascinating to see what happens with Spurs, and surely Chelsea will be back in the mix.

I still think both Lovren are Karius are weak links. Lukaku dominated Lovren recently and Karius still looks very flappable such as against Palace the other week when they nearly beat you.

You're certainly in good shape mind but still plenty of work to do.

I genuinely rate Milner as a LB, I was really surprised by how well he did in the position, but I think Robertson is absolutely class. He's going to really impress at Liverpool and could go on to be one of the best LB's in the Prem . I agree that he may start as a backup, but I reckon he'll cement his position as first choice in the first half of the season, with Milner filling in everywhere.

Can become one of the best LBs in the PL? Let's not get carried away.

How do you feel about Robertson now mate?

Definitely mate, though Lukaku is hugely underrated, even amongst some of your own. I think he's capable of dominating any Centre-back on his day. Yeah, Karius wasn't great that day but he's definitely getting there. Be interesting to see who we get in for Can, and up front.

On another note, I really hope Chelsea don't drop too far back so they end up missing the Europa League spot. We all know what those lot are capable of with just one game a week!
