Liverpool - 2017/18

That makes no sense.

Unlucky today. Beaten by the better team. DDG got a nice rest too!
Well done United, your team executed Jose’s tactics really well and that bodes very well for Europe against the ‘big’ teams. As I said, well played. I’m disappointed to lose but happy my team/ club, is on the up.

NB:- I don’t ‘do’ banter, I believe it’s just nastiness wrapped up in a ‘blanket’ word. If a side plays well I’ll give them credit.

Oh Dumbstar. You're a glutton for punishment I'll give you that.

As for Liverpool. Different manager, different players, same old really - usually losing at Old Trafford, flattering to deceive.

The Spurs of the North West.

Ooh, very harsh Monseur beurre d’aracbide. For the record I thought you were very good and totally deserved the victory.
That said, I don’t think anyone can argue we weren’t hard done by on two penalties, but that’s football. I am hoping for a Euro’ revenge tie. That could be really something. Bottom line, Mourinho got his first half tactics spot on and well played Manchester United. :)

Indeed. I'm sure plenty on here would have been screaming for penalties if the tables were turned.

The narrative before the game was you lot were going to anhilate us and DDG would have to be everywhere.

What actually happened was we cut you apart like a knife through butter whilst DDG could have been banging Edurne whilst sipping a glass of Rioja in Madrid yet you still wouldn't have scored a goal.

The first half was an absolute shit show from us. Our record at OT is genuinely shocking.

United have played Liverpool 4 times during Jose's relatively short tenure, and in those 4 games Liverpool have yet to register a legitimate goal from open player - the two they have scored came from a penalty and an own goal - this is not a coincidence, it's simply Jose possessing the tactical knowledge with which nullify Liverpool's attacking threat.

It's Klopp 0 - Mourinho - 1 and three draws in those fixtures. Not really the domination you suggest.

Liverpool were shite end of .

All these cries for penalties are not going to make you a better team and win you anything. Worry about Chelsea and 4th place now .

You played well and deserved your win. I envy your joy mate. Jose and United got their tactics spot on.
I’m hoping we get the chance for revenge in the CL.
But all nonsense and ‘crowing’ apart. Well done United and supporters, enjoy your spoils lads.

Very mature. Thanks. Obviously there is always banter flying about these games but I think a few have been a little riled by the cocky remarks made on the Caf leading up to the game.

Anyway you'll have no issues with the top 4 in my opinion.

Same applies to the reverse fixture. United's never comfortable at Anfield. It's part of the history of this football match.

This Liverpool side are an extremely efficient attacking unit under Klopp, one of the best the league has to offer in this department and have been for a number of years now, to make them look toothless on 4 seperate occasions would take a great deal more than blind luck.

Domination would be a stretch, but I believe it is safe to assume that Jose has Jurgen's number tactically speaking, in much the same way as Fergie had Wenger's number.

Our recent record at Anfield is much better than theirs at Old Trafford.

We rarely play well at Anfield but we often get a decent result. They routinely play badly at OT and usually lose as well.

I'm quite confused with how Liverpool players are managing to get so close to records of footballing greats.

Because of how we play. We press from the front with intelligence. If our front three don't get the ball off you, the midfield then jump in. Winning the ball back inside the attacking third means it's usually just one pass and the forward line are in on goal.
We play in the front foot so much that our midfielders are bound to get a lot of assists. Doesn't mean they're better players, just that they're good players playing in a good system that gets the most out of their collective talents.

I know you play well. Just find it nuts that Salah is equalling Ronaldo's return in the PL and Milner is equalling/bettering those.

Looking at the number of assists and the time that he's done that in compared to the others is incredible. James Milner is a massively important player for us.... Not many would have thought that earlier on in the season

Liverpool scored 31 goals in 9 games(only 13/14 real madrid scored more at this point in recent memory). Milner has a good cross on him

And the pass to Ox apparently counts as an assist nowadays...

They give them for anything now. One of Pogba’s assists for this season involved the ball hitting him, bouncing off of the face of an opposition player and going in.

I hate using the assist stat as something to praise a player with because deep down I know it’s a useless stat, easy to debunk with a closer look at the assists themselves.

Milner sitting on top of that list is a footballing travesty.

God hates football.

Hamez Milner is a very underrated player. He's solid, reliable and often does have an above average performance in his kitty.

Truth is, I would have liked us to sign him when he was a free agent. He was a bargain. But the fecker's played for Leeds and City, was inevitable he would join Liverpool only next.

Milner has been a brilliant pro without being outstanding, he was though superb v City and Everton , just hoping his good run continues at the Emptyhad tonight .

Ya he's never been terrible, always puts in a shift. These players are required in every squad.

Debunk the assist stat?

The top 10 assisters in the PL this season are

1. KDB
2. Sane
3. D Silva
4. Alli
5. Salah
6. Pogba
7. Erikssen
8. Ozil
9. Goreb
10. Sterling

Some assists are of low value but the top 10 shows that the best creative players get a lot of assists.

Which game was the Pogba one in?

I think it was Stoke, definitely an away game because you were wearing your dark away shirt.

Fair point with the list but when I see players get awarded an assist for a poor shot that happens to end up falling to a teammate for a tap in or something of that nature, I think it’s such a false stat.

Who is Goreb?

This lad

Came from a crappy BL side but supposedly created most chances there in his last season

Think @Klopper76 is talking about Stoke game.

Ball didn't hit Pogba and then hit someone else, Pogba headed the ball which would have been a sure goal but it hit Rashford and went in. So instead of goal, Pogba got assist.

Brighton's Pascal Gross

And the assist stat IS one those, like number of tackles, that is heavily reliant on context

I invite you to look at Milner's 8 assists if you don't believe me. At least 3 of those could hardly be considered actual assists...

What's your thoughts on Trent Alexander over these games with City ?

Good, especially first leg, but Sane made his job easier. Cant forget just a few games ago he was struggling against Rashford and Zaha who offered direct runs in behind.

If Liverpool went to win CL, the pressure on Jose will be immense and probably he won't be able to withstand whole season here.

probably the least offensive player to don the Leeds city and our colours .

I think he came of age a little in these two games against City. Let's see how he develops but I think we all see that he's a cracking little player. It's games like these were young players develop and learn and just do their basic stuff .

Damn, hope either Bayern or Real Madrid get Liverpool next and knock them out. Could turn into a nightmare season for us with City winning the league and Liverpool winning the champions league.

Crazy as it is to say considering the gulf in quality, I wouldn’t fancy facing Liverpool if I’m a Madrid fan. Can’t see a Roma or Bayern fan wanting to face them either.

To steal a phrase from Conte, they know that they are going to have to suffer when playing against us.

Think Bayern will be the best opponents for pool, Madrid obviously being second ones. Liverpool have a 25% chance to win the champions league and that makes me sick. Think they can beat any of the three in one off game, so best hope that they get knocked out in the semi.

Liverpool compensate for the inferior quality of their mids and defenders by extremely high energy levels. This strategy can succeed in cup competiitons but not in the league. You can't run like mad over 38 league ghames. Once they lower their intensity, the quality of their game drops significantly.
