Liverpool - 2017/18

Not sure where else to post this but apparently Danny Murphy (yeah I know) said yesterday that he knows VVD is off to Liverpool for £65m.

VVD, Salah and Keita would be a superb transfer window.

Chris Williams also stated we submitted a €65m bid for Keita last night, although it was rejected. Not sure why we're haggling over €5-10m once again, but renewed hope that it'll be done. Apparently Keita has his heart set on a move to Anfield as well.

I'd be over the moon with him, Van Dijk, Salah and Ox this Summer. Four signing that'll improve our first XI. Maybe a LB (Robertson?) and striker for some added depth or more competition for starting spots which would be the icing on the cake.

Knowing us in the transfer market we might end up with none of them as well though, mind you. For years top players didn't even consider us and now they actually want to come, we've to deal with teams who don't want to do business which is a bit frustrating.

Salah - done
Solanke - done (good young striker adding depth)
VVD - pending
Keita - pending
Robertson - please no ! But anyway a LB still pending (Tierney please).

There's still virtually 2 months to go in the transfer window. Not only this window's success but next season's performance and PL Top 4 challenge, hangs in the balance.

What is the bet that klopp will cry about lukaku fees after bidding roughly the same on players himself

He won't cry about Lukaku fee though, he has already done about Pogba and looked like a fool after trying to spend big money on Keita and VVD.

You know as well as I do that fees are inflated way beyond reason this Summer, due to even higher income from the PL. Not a valid comparison. I wonder what they would have cost last season (at their same level) for example. Maybe £35m apiece ? Instead of probably £60m and £55m this.

None. Next ....

You never know. The guy uses excuses whenever it suits him to give the victim effect

It was the same last summer too. Stones cost 50m, Sane cost close to 40m etc.

But still it doesn't justify him complaining of other club spending big and giving lectures of how he will never do the same and yet just a season later (it's not like he said 10 years back) he is bidding £60 odd for a defender and £70 odd for a midfielder who is less proven than pogba.

It's a dangerous game, so it's always better to not to talk about other clubs, especially about players, fee.

Re fee, obviously it's gone up, like I said that's why he shouldn't have talked about the fee with comments like "I will retire the day I have to pay so much for player" "big fee for 1 player means it's all not worth if he is injured" and all that.

A lot of it is down the work Klopp has done behind the scenes he's had to get involved personally to sell the project but I imagine that wasn't too difficult. We haven't acted like a big club with stature at all in recent years and it's no surprise we've rarely been considered one this past decade when you look at how we've conducted ourselves, thankfully that seems to be changing at least whilst Klopp is around.

Our negotiation strategy is frustrating but honestly as much as I'd love for us to turn in to Bayern/Chelsea I'll take getting these deals over the line and FSG putting down the significant wad of cash that is available. CL,TV deal, Positive net spend last summer. The money is there. Just hope we can get these deals moving and wrapped up so they have some sort of pre-season training.

Liverpool r making a complete fool out of themselves. Leipzig couldnt be more clear, that Keita isnt for sale, but u obviously dont understand a no. There is no chance to get him, but go on and continue believing he will come..deluded.

Yeah you're right but what's even more ridiculous and petty is football fans arguing over transfer fees and amounts spent. Especially in an era where the PL is flowing with money. There are plenty of other things to rib each other about. I mean by all means if you want to rip an individual player then fine but the fees argument is one I just can't fathom.

From twittersphere (so fake news) its only the sporting director, i.e. crayon in the nose Ralph/Ralf, that is pushing back. There is internal strife that the next large offer from us should be accepted as he'll be worth a lot less next season regardless of which club he chooses then. We await developments on this saga.

Exactly, especially when clubs can afford it.

Let's revisit this post in a few weeks and see who's right. I never suggested that it's a done deal or anything like that, just that there's definitely a possibilty since the player obviously wants to come, plus several trustworthy outlets have reported recently that Leipzig's stance could change, and already has changed for some board members, with a €70-80m bid.

I'm not convinced it'll be done but I'd say the chances definitely are 50-50 right now imo.

What makes me laugh is the way some fans who have just spent half an hour with their hands down the back of the couch looking for a couple of quid to go for a pint casually say. If they want 70 million just pay it , while they haven't got a pot to piss in

 suure

Rangnick and Mintzlaff have both said the same and they said it in such a clear way, that there is no other interpretation possible. Do you want me to post their statements again? They literally left zero doubts about him staying. There is zero chance and all Liverpool are doing is acting like total idiots thinking a no is not a no. Its only a topic in English media and they r always clueless and ignorant.

Yes, please mark my words and then come back in September..they never come back though.

Please also mark these statements:

Weigl, Guerreiro and Dembele are going to stay at Dortmund

Forsberg, besides Keita, will stay at Leipzig.

Henrichs, Havertz, Tah and Brand will stay at Leverkusen.

Goretzka will join Bayern latest in 2018 and Brandt most likely the same.

Edit: Trustworthy outlets have reported recently that Leipzig's stance could change, and already has changed for some board members, with a €70-80m bid.

See, thats the problem..absolutely nothing has changed and what you call trustworthy outlets are just clueless nonsense talking crap sources.

Fair enough then, agree to disagree and you can't fault me for being optimistic/hopeful, at least I don't ridicule your opinion. A lot has changed since their initial 'not for sale' stance according to various sources and they are all we can talk about since none of us are ITK. Chris Williams usually knows his business though, and where there's smoke sometimes there's fire as well. There have been clubs before who didn't want to sell and ended up selling anyway. It's not just English media either, even Bild were on it yesterday.

AIPS media journalist Williams reckons Liverpool may be able to break the Bundesliga side's resolve if they do put forward an even bigger bid.

He also outlined Keita is desperate to sign for the Reds and it could be a 'formality' that he joins the club this summer.

Williams said on Twitter: "Keita is desperate to move Liverpool but RB Leipzig will not move on their "not for sale" stance.

Liverpool could lodge an improved bid to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita

"RB Leipzig may deal at an improved figure. Balance in favour of a LFC move has tipped."

He added: "It could be a "formality" now that Keita moves to Liverpool during this window according to some within the German club."

Keita made 31 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig last season and scored eight goals as they finished second in the German top flight.

He is contracted to the club until the summer of 2020.

Rangnick stated today that not even a 3-digit offer would make them budge. Leipzig is a fully fledged Red Bull Marketing operation, they are dead serious on leaving a mark in the upcoming CL season, and Keita is the core of their midfield. I wouldn't get my hopes up.
Keita has a 55m € RC for next season, though. This where you might come in(among every other potentially interested party)

We're close to signing Andy Robertson from Hull for £8 million.

I'm guessing he'll replace Moreno in the squad and rotate at LB with Milner.

Surely even Liverpool wouldn't have the brass neck to be caught tapping a player up, disappear under threat of being reported/fined, and then come back in later! For what must be world record money for a defender.

Agreed, it's exceptionally irritating reading complete clowns constantly saying "well it's not my money so why should I care", not understanding that if the club constantly overspends they might care, as they might go all Leeds United.
And then the same fans will be moaning the cost of their tickets, or more likely their armchair tv package has gone up, having the lack of intellect to understand that the more fees go up, the more all costs go up.

It's right up there with fans who perhaps pay £40 moaning that "I pay their wages" as a license to give whatever abuse they can.

Yeah that £40 has probably paid about 1second's wages of your reserve left back.

Yeah, looking alright for a preseason game. Do you think Alexander-Arnold will feature more this year? I've been impressed by him the few times I've watched

Yeah, he looks a real player. I'm hoping the fact he's started in the A team half twice now means he's gonna be first choice over Clyne. Clyne is solid, but he's garbage going forward. You'd never see Clyne nutmeg someone in the opposition half (maybe himself)

All Leipzig are doing is posturing for their fans. The deal in principle is "done" at around £65M, and Keita will be a Liverpool player shortly. Same with the Virgil van Dijk deal. Southampton is now resigned to sell. The player will wait to see if a deal can be agreed soon, otherwise, he'll use his transfer request card. Note how Klopp has no serious secondary options for either player!

Will be nice to finally promote a player from the academy good enough to start. Feels like an eternity since Sterling.

What sources are you basing this on or is that just what you think is going on?

What United have done brilliantly over the past two years is inflate transfer fees. If the market is high, it suits us. You can see teams like Spurs and Liverpool trying to swim in these waters. They're practically drowning. It must be hugely frustrating that Liverpool have quite a decent budget this summer, but still can't get the players they want. It is all our doing.

Can't see Liverpool troubling us at all this season. Think we'll have them at arm's length for much of the campaign. Last year's campaign for them is massively overrated, they did sfa in any competition...and there can be no doubt from anyone, that next year is going to be a much more difficult season for them than last.

It's mid-July ffs. If we end up without the players we want, it's because their clubs simply don't want to sell and not because we can't pay for them.

Your second paragraph is pure speculation based on nothing. You lost your best striker and replaced him with an inferior one, and lost one of your best defenders for half the season and replaced him with a similar or slightly better one (haven't seen much of Lindelof but looks good tbf). It's a bold claim you'll hold us at arm's length easily for most of the season when the opposite was true last season (yeah yeah European competition prioritized but it remains true). You honestly can't say which team has a better shot at competing for the title or top 4 at this point in time without knowing what the rosters will look like when the league starts. It's all guessing work.

Last summer called, it wants its misplaced sense of superiority back...

So last summer's Pogba negotiations must have gone something like this :

United - "We want to sign Paul Pogba"

Juve - "OK but he'll cost you £50 million"

United - "No, we want to pay £90million"

Juve - "Honestly, £50 million will suffice"

United - "We're playing hardball here. £90 million or we'll look elsewhere"

Juve - "sigh, alright we'll take the 90 million"

High 5's all round from the United negotiators.

I can't speak for Liverpool, but I think the inflated market suits Spurs very well. Firstly because we're not really much the market to buy players (our first XI is strong and in any case most of our spare money is going into the new stadium). Secondly because we can sell if we want at high prices - witness Walker to City for £50m+.
