Liverpool - 2017/18

Dear Liverpool fans, do you think you really need Chamberlain? Don't you think you already have similar players?

I don't think there's anything wrong with getting a utility player from a smaller club at a good fee. He can do a job.

Do Liverpool fans reckon Aubameyang would even be a good fit for the team in comparison to Firmino?

We would have like the fastest frontline in history with Salah, Mane and Auba.

There are good and bad things about Firmino. He solves a lot of problems in terms of bringing others into play, creating chances etc. I am sure the players around him love playing with him.

But he doesn't score enough for a centreforward. And tactically, he does too much of his work in front of the back four. The central striker position is rather loopsided when he plays.

Which meant that once Mane was out (and sturridge ever injured), we had no one who didn't do their best work in front of the backfour. That was a problem.

We're working towards a bit of an odd setup in that our topscorer is our no 10 and we are looking to our wingers to get in behind the defence and get into double figures. Basically, the expectation is that Salah and Mane will outscore Firmino.

I think a top class centreforward would be absolutely ace for us - we have creativity enough without firmino as it is, even if he brings plenty to the table in that regard.

On the other hand, if Firmino actually learns how to play as a striker and scores 20+ for us, he could become borderline world class. Henry showed that you can be a good goalscorer without being a "fox in the box".

Keita rumours growing fast the last couple of days. I don't want to get my hopes up but he would be a phenomenal signing.

I don't think it would make much sense to him. His next move will be to a big club.

If I am not wrong the same klopp bashed us signing pogba for 89 million and said he will never spend so much on one player and here he is rumoured to be spending 70 on one player.

One must always stay in his limit and not act over smart.

Well he isn't really is he? 70 is less than 89. Only joking mate I know what you mean but the way things are going now if you want the player you have to pay the price.

It was same before also. If you want player you have to pay the price.

Exactly, so he should have kept his mouth shut last year. Come to think about it, he also should have kept his mouth shut this year regarding VVD. Seems to be a trend.

That is why I said one should not act over smart. Klopp was acting smartass when he should have realised times are changing and you have to spend big. Same way managers have to realise you cannot be successful by playing just one brand of football. If you have to win trophies , you have to play according to the situation.

We wouldn't have signed Salah (again) had we finished 5th. He wouldn't have sneezed on us if we offered to be his tissue.
I disagree. If one thing chelsea and united have proven over the past couple of season, you can finish outside top 4 and still lure top players. Liverpool is objectively a step up from Roma in terms of prestige, both historic and current (I say that begrudgingly) so Salah would have likely been attainable regardless of where you finished.

One would think that Mourinho was a fecking angel.
Who says that. Jose mourinho has always been criticized even when he wins trophies. If anything, majority footballing Einsteins has always termed jose as a villian and no one calls him an angel.

However ,klopp has always been treated as some kind of messiah. Maybe time has come to call spade a spade and people stop overrating him.

This!

I posted this comment in the cafes new RAWK Meltdown thread "A new thread for a new season and yet you are still posting up old gifs, how entertaining" and now I seem to be thread banned. How touchy are you guys? it was only a truthful observation. What a joke

You've basically shown you have no understanding of that thread and its history on this forum. Ironic really that a Liverpool fan should lack knowledge about history given that all but one of your clubs greatest successes are confined largely to a period of time more than a quarter of a century ago...

I understand what the thread is for I am not as stupid as you might think. I just found it amusing that regular posters in there were going on about how they couldn't wait for the new thread to start, and then started posting up the same stuff that was in the old thread.

Didn't call you stupid :) Just pointing out that starting the new thread with our favorite scraps from previous year's threads is kind of what we do on here.

Especially reposting the boom bust cycle graph.

Apologies for the stupid remark you did not call me stupid. However I still don't see the need for a new thread for old stuff, that's all. Each to there own I suppose

Liverpool have been unsually quiet in this transfer window so far.

Usually by now they would have spent £100+ million on quantity over quality.

Perhaps they are actually targeting good players for a change?

That is touchy indeed. You sure were banned for that alone?

and they're finding it very tough. I mean, they made a mess of the VvD situation like true amateurs and RB Leipzig are not giving much thought to Liverpool's approach for Naby Keita. It's possible they get the players and there's like 2 months to the end of the window, but you might wonder if LFC will revert to quantity over quality if they fail on their first choice signings

Well, Salah was a big buy for them. It's still early July anyway.

@Mrs Smoker To be honest I don't know as I wasn't informed at all. Posted that comment and then find I have insufficient privileges to post in that thread anymore but all others are ok, so one can only assume

I doubt it. I don't think Klopp will sign someone just for the sake of making a signing. He will play the waiting game as he does seem quite confident he will get his targets. As a Liverpool fan I just hope his confidence is justified and that he does have alternatives in mind just in case but sticks with the quality over quantity. We need at least another 3 maybe 4 (CB,LB,CM + maybe a CF) signings to be where we want I think. Bring in the quality to replace some of the staring 11 and have a decent bench for a change.

This is the reality we're in despite finishing in CL positions. Heaven forbid if we had finished 5th. :wenger:

We are chasing players that not many other clubs are after, some have even indicated their 'love' for us but we're still getting dicked.

Selling clubs are being tricky. Klopp is going for very good players who come with a high price and protracted negotiations.

It's not the time to draw conclusions right now. I'd wait until August.

I can probably shed some light on that for you without upsetting anyone at moderation level I wouldn't think.

A few of us, with nothing better to do & not getting out much etc, & who think that all Liverpool fans are the same, take our RAWK piss-taking very seriously o that thread & then someone posts a sensible comment & lots of further sensible comment follows in & then a conversation starts - we hate this.

Even worse, an argument starts, and you know what those are like - so we hate that even more, people go there to laugh (fairly or unfairly) without wanting to read & consider, argue, refute whatever. After a few years of trying in different ways to stop pages of non relevant stuff appearing 'we' are doing what are mainly joke threadbans - RAWK bans people for next to nothing stuff all the time y'see - so it's another 'high'-larious joke for us to enjoy. Which you were on the receiving end of on this occasion I'm afraid, :D.

Almost as unfair as the time I got banned from the Mesut Ozil thread for describing him as a total cock knocker who resembled a fish, but that's a story for another time, maybe.

You can come back, if you stay strong.

I've heard that Klopp is confident of getting both van Dijk and Naby Keita. The problem with these two players is that their respective clubs have not put a price on them, hence it's difficult to make a bid. It's thought van Dijk will wait and see if discussions progress between the clubs, otherwise he'll put in a transfer request. Keita's transfer is more tricky as he's unlikely to push with a transfer request but is talking to Leipzig and telling them he wishes to move to LFC. Both players "want Liverpool" hence why there are no other clubs in for them.

It's too early to judge anyone's transfer window yet.

Salah was a good buy. We'll see who else they bring in.

This window is the most difficult one i can remember for awhile. Selling clubs are demanding huge quantities, and there are few instances of hands being forced on the selling-side.
