Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

Watching this Liverpool kit launch deal. Fowler just said that their fans are the most knowledgeable in the world. Interesting

is this considered his actual job for Liverpool to keep spouting this? last week goals on sunday, now a kit launch

Didn't he cost you guys a but load of €s?
Yes, 38/39mill €, was signed after the Under 21 European Championship (Isco, Illarra, Thiago...). Everybody started talking that was the new Xabi Alonso, besides he is basque and played in Real Sociedad. I think that his problem is that the shirt weights too much. He was scared of change, shy in the field, and then a bad game in Dortmund in C.L ended his moral. Madrid will sell cheap

The boom bust cycle isn't just for Liverpool fans it seems...

Sturridge "next season we will hopefully be able to win the Premier League, not just get into the top four"

Well someone has to take over the 'next season' interview duties now that Stevie G is off.

Yep Daniel....next year is Liverpool's year
Daniel Sturridge believes Liverpool can compete for next season’s Premier League title

The Reds have failed to build on last year’s silverware bid this time around and are unlikely to even finish in the top four, although they do have an FA Cup semi-final to look forward to.

Liverpool have paid the price for a slow start to the current campaign, which was preceded by a transfer window in which they sold the incomparable Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

They won just two of their first six games and were 12th in the table after a 3-1 loss at Crystal Palace on November 23.

Defeats to Manchester United and Liverpool in their last two league games have seen Brendan Rodgers’ side slip to seven points adrift of the top four but Sturridge feels they can get back on track next season.

"We have, of course, not played as well as we have done in the last season but things change," he said.

"Of course we aim to play well until the end of the season and next season we will hopefully be able to win the Premier League, not just get into the top four.

"We just need to start the season better than we did this season. Top four is still feasible. We have seven games left and anything is possible.

"Every game is important now. If we advance in the cup we will have nine games and every one will be a cup final.

"The FA Cup is huge for us but we have to still understand we have a chance in the Premier League and getting into the top four.

"We won't put our eggs in one basket. There are still seven games to go in the Premier League and we are looking forward to playing in each of those."

Liverpool play Newcastle at Anfield on Monday, a ground at which the Magpies have not won since April 1994, and Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel will again miss out through suspension.

Emre Can is back in the fold but his absence for the FA Cup semi-final win over Blackburn prompted Rodgers to move from his preferred 3-4-3-1 system and go with a flat back four.

"The manager is adaptable in terms of the way the team plays and changes a lot of things around," said Sturridge.

"It is important to have someone like that in the camp who is a man-manager and talks to the players.

"It is important you can have a manger you can talk to and we just look forward to playing for this club."

How outrageous for him to hope such a thing.

If they miss out on European football all together, and find a top, top player (or Sterling develops into that) then they probably could.

How did Liverpool get Coutinho for so cheap? Was he just crap at Inter?

You'd imagine he will be wanting a raise if he keeps up his progress...60k a week seems like very little for Liverpools best player.

He was never given consistent game time.

He can have it. More than deserving. The idea of Henderson holding out for £120k+ while Coutinho gets half of that is mindboggling. Give him some of the money freed up from Johnson & Gerrard moving on.

He was woefully inconsistent. Similar to a spell if his Liverpool career. In excellent form right now though.

Jamie Carragher saying that Joe Allen was the first player Rodgers wanted when he went to Liverpool. So is he actually a very good player who just isn't noticed by opposition fans (like Carrick years ago)?

I hardly ever see him play so I've just always assume he is bad because he doesn't ever make anything happen. His passing seems accurate though and he does pass forward which is good.

No. He's not a bad player, just not a particularly good one.

He does have the odd very good games, but also goes missing every now n then. He's a good player, but nothing special.

Are liverpool going to replace him this summer? The midfielders you have right now just don't seem very creative. Henderson, Allen and Lucas....looks very average really. Maybe it doesn't matter with Coutinho/Sterling ahead of them though.

No chance. We don't have the funds to completely overhaul the midfield when the team is already crying out for a striker/CDM/right back.

Can is primarily a CDM that's been forced into other positions through injuries/suspensions/crap defenders, so maybe, just maybe, if we sign a RB we can bring Can into the midfield where he belongs, and instead of splashing the cash on a CDM, go out and buy a creative centre mid like you guys did Herrera.

Do you know if Liverpool were interested in Herrera? I was thinking about it and he seems like he would be the kind of player Rodgers loves, and would have been a better buy than Lallana.

He's the antithesis of what hes actually supposed to be. On his day he presses intelligently consistently wins the ball releasing better players, has a decent passing range, keeps the game ticking game over and also has a sound technique, however despite this he has little confidence in it. He's prone to getting bullied off the ball and dissapearing from the game. With his type of player you expect 7/10 every week, in reality he's magnificent one week and woeful the next. Hes on a good run atm hopefully he can stay injury free.

Illaramendi was very impressive as a Spain U-21 player. Mobile, smart and a good passer. I think he'd immediately improve Liverpool in their 3-4-3 (next to and a bit more defensive than Henderson) or as the DM in a 4-3-3 with Henderson and Coutinho in front of him (and I guess Can pushing each of them). That would be a smart signing for Liverpool and Illaramendi himself could do a lot worse and is probably desperate to play .

They'd still need at least keeper, right back, a center back (who is mobile and technically solid enough to play as one of 3) and a backup striker. Probably a winger and a left back too.

Sterling-----Sturridge-----Lallana
------Coutinho----Henderson---
----------Illaramendi--------------
Moreno---------------------Right Back
--------CB--------Skrtel------
-------------GK-------------------

with a new Striker, maybe a winger, Ibe, Allen, Can, Lucas, a left wing back, Sakho and Mignolet as the main depth.

Hopefully Rodgers gets it wrong. A lot to do, there. It can be done, even without an insane amount of cash since the positions aren't necessarily expensive ones (apart from backup striker, and Ings is an option there. He may not be good enough but might be worth a pop since it would save money for players who actually need to start).

Inter needed money and Liverpool offered a low bid. Real bargain.

Coutinho has just signed a new contract, doubt it'll get a re-do so soon.

That's not so far off actually, though I'd say he's very rarely magnificent. But he can be good.

Ironically, he's generally a 7/10 when coming off the bench.

Just such a dull player and ultimately a shrinking violet.
