Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

Lovely gesture :

When a young student posted on a website after getting stranded in Liverpool, he probably never expected a complete stranger to rush to his aid. But that's exactly what happened when the Leicester City fan, known as LCFCRyan, took to the internet to share his predicament. The youngster had travelled up from London to watch Leicester's 2-2 draw away to Liverpool along with his 10-year-old nephew.

But joy soon turned to misery for the pair after a taxi driver took them to the wrong station meaning not only did they miss the last train back to the capital, but the £54.20 cost meant they were left with no other means of getting home and had to walk back from the airport to the city centre. By that point the station was closing and desperate to find an indoor public place to spend the night, the sixth former wrote on the Liverpool FC page of Reddit.
They wrote: "Wait near the main entrance to Lime Street (the entrance facing the big TV screen) and I'll give you the money for a hotel room and a taxi so you can get there safely. I'll be there in about 15 minutes."

The next day, LCFCRyan thanked their saviour once again adding "I just want to tell you how thankful myself, my nephew and my family are. My sister who is also the mother of my nephew is driving up to Liverpool right now and I don't think she'll be letting me take him on another trip soon. "In all seriousness I don't know what we would have done if it wasn't for you and I personally will never forget your generosity."

Echo are saying that the club are confident that Sterling will sign a new deal by the end of the month.

Edit: So are the Mail.

I don't doubt he will but if he is wise he will demand a reasonable minimum fee release clause, something like £40m, he has all the bargaining power and should use it, that way if he wants to leave in the next few seasons because Liverpool do not achieve their objectives he can move to a different club.

@Rafateria

Just put Sky Sports on and guess what? First story Steven Gerrard, I watched with great joy knowing he is leaving Liverpool never having won the premier league, I could get used to this, so long may it continue!

The timing is right for him to leave and many supporters feel the same, good to see you are with us :D

I'm also enjoying the coverage :

Footballing legend Zinedine Zidane has revealed that he was desperate for Real Madrid to sign Steven Gerrard - but the Reds skipper simply wouldn’t leave Liverpool FC. The Spanish giants twice made attempts to prise Gerrard away from Anfield, and with the 34-year-old announcing that he will depart Merseyside in July, Zidane has revealed that he hand-picked Gerrard to join him in Real’s midfield.

“I have said in the past that at his peak he was the best in the world,’ said Zidane. “I think it was the summer of 2004 I was having a conversation with Florentino (Perez) and I told him I wanted him to partner me in midfield for Madrid. “I know the club tried twice but he wouldn’t leave Liverpool. Not many players turn down Real Madrid but I think that tells you a lot about the loyalty of the man.”

I'm not sure our United friends realise what is coming TBH. Most will do well to retain their sanity. I don't think that there has been anyone quite like Gerrard who has retired in this manner before. Lampard is the nearest but I don't think the nation sees him in quite the same light. Giggs' retirement was too slow and he didn't cross the pond. Beckham went off to Spain and was a too young anyway, so not the same. Anyone prior to them were not part of the Sky Generation.

For the rest of this season it's going to be The Gerrard Story week-in week-out, there will be highlight reels, interviews & quotes from managers and players past and present (not just ex-Liverpool), articles and love-ins everywhere you look, from Spain to Germany to the Prime Minister. Every word, every statement, every match he plays, goal he scores and anything else he does will be lovingly and painstakingly documented and delivered to the public in triplicate ... per hour. The BBC, ITV and especially Sky will be all over this, whatever any team accomplishes in the PL will fade into insignificance .... Gasmanc will be driven to absolute distraction and be consigned to Shutter Island.

I've ordered a case of popcorn, 5 extra cases of Sauvignon Blanc, a box of Cubans and a footstool. feck the football this is going to be ace ...

Liverpool have made a €15m offer to Bayern for Xherdan Shaqiri.

This info is coming in from many ITK sources now. Supposedly Inter & Juve were competing too (though both wanted loans now with a no-option full transfer later) but Inter have secured Podolski and Juve are now going after Snijder from Gala.

I'd love this guy, as I've said from well before the World Cup. Can play anywhere across the front line with power and pace, scores an average of 7-9 goals per season.

Need more goals than 7-9 a season if he expects to be in our best team.

You'd do well to get him and simply move Sterling to the striker's position. Much better striker than any you have and Shaqiri would fit right in out wide.

Are we including Sturridge in this? He should be back in a fortnight.

Odd one really. With lallana Coutinho and Sterling it's the one area you're not stocked too badly. He'd be an upgrade on lallana and coutinho, but not by a vast amount. And one of those two is already heading for the bench when sturidge is fit. Not sure what it would mean for markovic either.

If Juve are after him, then he'd go to them rather than Liverpool. It's a no-brainer.

I knew there was a reason as to why you were stuck in the newbs for 4 years.

Sauvignon Blanc though? What's up with that?

Lallana, Coutinho and Markovic aren't nearly good enough to be worried about keeping them in the team every week. And Coutinho's always looked better in midfield anyway.

Juve won't be able to play the same wages I imagine. Though if he's smart he has to go where he's been promised the most games.

Didn't really understand Rafateria's post to be honest, I don't know why anyone should care that there's going to be highlight reels? Not like it's going to lift Liverpool's performances on the pitch.

Also, 'I don't think that there has been anyone quite like Gerrard who has retired in this manner before.', you do realize he's not technically retiring?

I hope they keep ignoring their defense and goalkeeper positions.

Zidane has praised other footballers referring them to being the best in the world or nobody being better than them, Rodgers is now praising Gerrard like he is a God but when he was Swansea manager he couldn't stop praising the United players, he didn't even choose Gerrard in his all time premier league 11 instead opting for Scholes Keane and Zola, what they say in public does not always match their true and honest opinion.

It took threats from scousers for Gerrard to be loyal to Liverpool. The only reason Zidane was desperate to sign Gerrard was because he became available on the market by his own choosing, Chelsea + Madrid both were in for him, he changed his mind eventually.

I mean you guys were burning Gerrard shirts at one point.

Either way you can post about players singing his praises all you want but what you cannot post about is this supposedly amazing player leading his team to premier league glory, he wasn't amazing enough to do that, he was a failure there and that will forever haunt him.

The media reports back then:

Gerrard's U-turn after threats to his family
by CHARLES SALE, Daily Mail

Last updated at 14:45 29 June 2004

Steven Gerrard's record-breaking transfer to Chelsea has been derailed because of a hate campaign directed at his family by Liverpool fans furious at the prospect of losing their captain and best player.

The England midfielder had agreed a £30million-plus move to Stamford Bridge, together with personal terms that would have doubled his £60,000-aweek wages.

But the intolerable pressure his family faced on Merseyside, including threatening phone calls and letters, played a pivotal role in Gerrard's U-turn over a move to London.

The abuse directed at Gerrard had reached vitriolic levels in local newspapers and on various websites. The concern for the player was that his close relatives, who live in the city, would have to bear the brunt of further venom following his departure from Anfield.

You were forced into bullying the man to stay at your club because his loyalty without that wasn't strong enough.

Jesus. You really are a bitter person are't you.

Lallana out for a month apparently, I assume he'll become world class and the solution to all their problems in that time.

EDIT: Lallana autocorrected to Llama

The Rawkification of the Caf. Ewww.

In any case, what you've forgotten is that plenty of these lovely highlight reels you can't wait to watch will feature his one man crusade to win the league last season, and we all know how well that turned out. Pass a cigar, I think i'll join you.

Why do the commentators ( Danny Murphy) continue to claim Lambert needs crosses and more direct play to be effective?
He had his best ever season last year, the reason he was signed, by being the focal point of a ball playing side.
He's a better player than what he's given credit for.

That's what everyone said when he joined, but to be fair to the commentators (who have annoyed me tonight) Lambert has been absolute shite on the ball since he came here. Can't pass, can't control a ball, constantly offside.

Times are reporting we are looking to sign Milner on a free and Delph in the summer. Both would be awful signings.

Milner on a free sounds quite good to me. Solid squad player. Why would that be awful? It wouldn't restrict your spending elsewhere all that much.
