Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

Sterling Sturridge and Henderson are your best players now and if I was a Liverpool fan that would really worry me.

One time United reserve player got the equaliser. Hero Schlupp.

In terms of points, Gerrard and Lucas has been our best midfield combination this season.

I strongly debate that, but have no recourse to getting the stats needed to prove it. I read somewhere else that we've only won 4 games out of 14 that Gerrard has played? Not sure how kosher those figures are either.

What psychological impact will this have? He's an important leader in the dressing room even if he isn't at the top of his game anymore, without a doubt he must be influential.

And what does this mean for his tenant, will he need to find a new place to live, perhaps rent a house off Sterling?

Coutinho is having a very good spell right now. Id day he looks better or as good as any of those 3.

I wouldn't be surprised if his departure liberated that dressing room.

It was well documented that Henry's departure lifted a weight from the Arsenal dressing room.

Liverpool Football Club can confirm Steven Gerrard is to leave the club at the end of the 2014-15 season.

The Reds captain will bring the curtain down on a glittering Anfield career that has spanned nearly 17 years and included 10 trophies, as well as 695 appearances and 180 goals to date since joining the club's youth system aged eight.the conclusion of the 2014-15 season. No decision on his new club has been made yet, but he will continue his career outside the United Kingdom and at a side that will not bring him into direct competition with Liverpool.

The 34-year-old admits it is with a heavy heart he will depart Liverpool, describing the decision as the 'toughest of his life', but has chosen to make it now to avoid speculation about his future.

Until then, the No.8 insists he will continue to concentrate all his efforts on helping Brendan Rodgers' side achieve both domestic and European success.

Explaining his decision, Gerrard said: "This has been the toughest decision of my life and one which both me and my family have agonised over for a good deal of time.
"I am making the announcement now so that the manager and the team are not distracted by stories or speculation about my future.

"Liverpool Football Club has been such a huge part of all our lives for so long and saying goodbye is going to be difficult, but I feel it's something that's in the best interests of all involved, including my family and the club itself.

"I'm going to carry on playing and although I can't confirm at this stage where that will be, I can say it will be somewhere that means I won't be playing for a competing club and will not therefore be lining up against Liverpool - that is something I could never contemplate.

"My decision is completely based on my wish to experience something different in my career and life and I also want to make sure that I have no regrets when my playing career is eventually over.

"I can't thank Brendan, the owners and everyone at the club enough for how they've handled this and I am leaving on great terms. Also, I would like to thank my teammates and all the staff for their help and continued support.

"It is a very special place to be part of. It is my sincere hope and wish that one day I can return to serve Liverpool again, in whatever capacity best helps the club.

"One point that is important to make is that from now until the last kick of the last game of the season, I will be as fully committed to the team as I ever have been and giving everything I have to help Liverpool win games.

"My final message is for the people who make Liverpool Football Club the greatest in the world - the supporters.
"It has been a privilege to represent you, as a player and as captain. I have cherished every second of it and it is my sincere wish to finish this season and my Liverpool career on a high."

I can actually see Liverpool improving without that albatross around their neck anymore.

Same here. Obviously he's been a great player for them but it's definitely time for player and club to move on. Get in a quality replacement for him, a CB and a keeper and they'll be good again next season imo. The rest of the team is already decent.

Me too. Mostly because rodgers still thinks Gerrard is an automatic pick that should not be subbed either.

We play one of our best games this season against swansea, in large part thanks to the tandem of lucas and henderson. Then he goes and fecks up the midfield for no good reason against leicester, just to get Gerrard back in the lineup.

Yes weakened them considerably to which they have never really recovered.

The most important thing for you guys now is securing Sterling. You've suddenly become a little less attractive as a club.

@Barney, @Rafateria, do you reckon Gerrard will play slightly fewer games for the remainder of this season now the cast is die? I don't think it will be few enough to change our top 4 hopes (currently at zero hope) but maybe few enough to give others in the team a flavour of how we should set up next season (Can, Markovic, even Lovren, etc).

Will Merseyside get an extra Bank Holiday this year, St. Gerrard Day?

I would be very surprised if he wasn't slowly weaned off the PL though I'd expect him to see EL action for as long as we're in it. I'd also expect him to start in the FAC and the LC semis.

I'm not sure our United friends realise what is coming TBH. Most will do well to retain their sanity. I don't think that there has been anyone quite like Gerrard who has retired in this manner before. Lampard is the nearest but I don't think the nation sees him in quite the same light. Giggs' retirement was too slow and he didn't cross the pond. Beckham went off to Spain and was a too young anyway, so not the same. Anyone prior to them were not part of the Sky Generation.

For the rest of this season it's going to be The Gerrard Story week-in week-out, there will be highlight reels, interviews & quotes from managers and players past and present (not just ex-Liverpool), articles and love-ins everywhere you look, from Spain to Germany to the Prime Minister. Every word, every statement, every match he plays, goal he scores and anything else he does will be lovingly and painstakingly documented and delivered to the public in triplicate ... per hour. The BBC, ITV and especially Sky will be all over this, whatever any team accomplishes in the PL will fade into insignificance .... Gasmanc will be driven to absolute distraction and be consigned to Shutter Island.

I've ordered a case of popcorn, 5 extra cases of Sauvignon Blanc, a box of Cubans and a footstool. feck the football this is going to be ace ...

Well you might as well enjoy that because your football club is proper toss like.

That's ok, it will distract from our struggles this season, it seems likely we will only challenge for third, after the last 3 draws it doesn't seem the team are able to mount a title challenge, Louis van Gaal is (as always) more interested in laying his foundations therefore this will be a welcome distraction.

Then next season there will be no talk of it, only United's return to glory.

So let the media attention happen, we talk about Liverpool's terrible performances, this season's epic failure and how Gerrard has never won the premier league, I'm fine with this and it seems you are too.

Yea, rafateria is right, it's going to be a massive love in, vomit inducing cock suckery of the highest order. Compilation after compilation, hailing him as the greatest player to grace our lands despite the biggest trophy in them evading him via falling on his arse.

The Gerrard story will fill our screens for the remainder of the season and Stevie will of course be at the center of the universe, exactly as planned ;)

We didn't need these retirements for Giggs and Scholes their glittering careers speak for themselves and wouldn't fit into a five minute slot on Granada fking reports.

I think he will still play most games, especially the ones in Europe and in the Cups.

It'll be a double header wiv Fat Fwank winning the league for City.

Now let's hope Cagliari and Roma don't work things out and we end up with Nainggolan in the summer :D

I also think Gerrard will still play most of our games, but I'm not too sure that's a good thing. He's still very much of use of course, but it will be harder to phase him out now that this is his final season at the club, and I do think we've played better without him this season. Anyway, would be nice and fitting to send him off with another FA Cup or Europa League trophy. Fingers crossed.

Except Lampard leads the Prem in Goals + Assists per minute right now. He's basically a prime Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He'll deserve his love-in.

Sir Alex Ferguson on Steven Gerrard’s influence on English football -

“He has become the most influential player in England, bar none. Not that Patrick Vieira lacks anything, but Gerrard does more.”

He's a huge influence. You can tell just by listening to the way his current and past teammates reference him. New players constantly talk about how excited they are to play with Gerrard. Torres and Suarez both adored him and are "overwhelmed with praise" according to Sid Lowe. Henderson looked devastated in an interview yesterday when he was discussing it.

What if Mourinho lifts the Premier League, Utd win the FA Cup, Chelsea smash you in the Carling Cup 5-0, Benitez beats you in the Europa League via a Gerrard slip, Sterling moves to City, Rodgers spends another £100m on dross, Balotelli refuses to leave and you fail to make FFP....? Will the Gerrard montages make up for that?

Bit of a hyperbole. Will be a big loss in the dressing room though.
In any case, his slip more than enough makes up for the stories.

 Sure thing mate.

Edit: In fact, can we stick this post in the RAWK thread? What a classic.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Rafa, I think I might join you while we watch our Utd friends think about 'turning a corner' and 'next season'. They said it could never be done.

I think you miss the point, it was made quite clear in my post whilst Louis van Gaal lays the foundations, this season we will all be thinking about Gerrard's slips as Rafateria kindly pointed out.

You can laugh at Gerrard all you want but it's not his fault, he was just born to slip, interview or on the pitch, doesn't matter to him:
