Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

So Liverpool are not dipping into the transfer market. I wonder if that is Brentan's choice.

Where did you hear that?

That's pretty damning if true. They clearly need new players to get back in the Champions League. If they won't back him again, it suggests a huge lack of confidence in him.

He's gone if he doesn't get Champions League, if he does they'll let him spend in the summer, if he doesn't they've saved it for the new man.

It's on Football365. Maybe reaing too much into it as I'm not sure they bought so much last January either.

Can at CB is potential comedy. Even Valencia tore him a new one at full back.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I really rate Emre Can. I prefer him as a midfielder...but new centre back? He has hardly been a regular there.

He never played against Valencia so you must be getting confused.

I don't agree. A realistic challenge for top 4 is required but I don't think he will be sacked if Liverpool come 5/6th but just missed out. A poor second half of the season would be pretty critical though.

As for transfers, I fully expect Liverpool to spend in January - keeper is very likely. Possibly a striker.

You don't think coming 2nd, spending £120m and then falling out of the Top 4 would see him sacked?

Yeah, despite Rodger's comments I think we'll make one or two additions to the squad. I think we'll sign a goalkeeper and perhaps an attacking player.

Rodgers might be sacked if we finish 5th or 6th if we finish many points off of 4th, but as PickledRed says, if we just miss out Rodgers, rightly, will be given more time.

No. Based on the fact that the other big 4 spent massively and Liverpool aren't an established CL side. There's no doubt that Liverpool were ahead of schedule with last season's finish. I think the owners know a more reasonable trajectory to top 4 requires patience. But they will definitely expect a competitive finish to the season.

Also, the £120m spend is a slight deception given that over 50% of that was recouped in sales. In that sense, the owners didn't invest £120m. I'm not trying to do a tired 'net spend' argument, I'm just explaining that I don't think the owners will regard it as a cold £120m.

That was awful. I have no idea what Rodgers is doing with Borini. We have a Markovic that's coming into some form, yet the out of favour Borini comes on. Someone needs to explain that to me. We win that game if he doesn't come on. His addition changed our shape. We didn't deserve to win that, but it's infuriating to drop points after everyone else has. Hopefully Lallana is okay.
Gerrard should not be playing centrally instead of Henderson. Henderson, Coutinho, Moreno, Can, Mignolet and Sterling all played well.

Modern day footy is ridiculously knee jerk, but a sacking would be harsh!

They over achieved outrageously last year, built on a top player on a glory season, added to Sturridge and Sterling being on top form.

This year two of the three have gone or not featured, and the other has been well under par.

Yes he's spent a shtload on cranks, but then most teams do.

5th is their limit this year.

Lower than that will be underachievement for certain

Pathetic bottle job from Liverpool. Gifted two pens by the ref and they still manage to blow it. Also all their new signings are rubbish. They will be lucky to break 60 points this season.

On the plus side - Alan Irvine's free :)

Agreed, and there was only one glaringly obvious change from that Swansea team: Gerrard. Rafateria will hate me for saying it, but Rodgers has put the final Stevie shaped nail in his own coffin. Was bound to happen sooner or later. It happened sooner.

Rodgers out, clearly.

 You think we'll struggle to break 60 points and all our new signings are rubbish?

Lucas and Gerrard together is asking for trouble. I think you can only play one of them per game.

I'm in the building trade and believe me, ive never seen a starfish shaped nail.

I think we'll struggle to break 65+ because Gerrard will play A LOT MORE games yet to come. But I don't agree our signings are all rubbish, that just came with the post.

Lallana and Moreno will definitely be considered successes IMO and Markovic is improving.

The rest are pretty much all meh.

When you have opposition fans and my own 2 year old son telling me that is the case, then you know something is wrong with the manager's head.

Would you give Gerrard a new contract?

I would politely ask him to write off the remaining contract tomorrow, with a decent pay off and he can go to the USA in January. Not in a nasty way.

But a new contract, fck me, what has become of our club and our fans?

Lallana, Can, Moreno and Manquillo all have been successes so far. As you say, Markovic is improving and I expect him to be one too. I have no hope for Lovren, Lambert or Balotelli.

I like a Can and Manquillo too.

I agree with Can, think he'll be decent for you. Manquillo has looked quite reliable in a poor defence, but I'm not sure if he's worth a permanent stay.

About 10 new players and none of them has significantly improved the side. Now that requires some skill

You're on course for less than that, so I don't see how that assertion is laughable.

Sturridge is coming back. He won't fix all our problems, but he'll certainly fix the ones up front as long as he remains fit. We've also (slowly) been improving.

Still has a massive influence on the club. Would be a huge loss if he left.

Yes, or lack of. QPR and Spurs have done the same so it isn't that rare. City & Chelsea have done the opposite in the past so it can work.

I have bolded two key sentences. Against Swansea we showed huge improvements. So what changed? We picked Gerrard, that's all. Move Henderson, midfield became static and Leicester decided to have a tea party in there. Thus the second bolded sentence. The answers are in your own post.

He is, but then you are banking on an almost instant return to form. He's done it in the past, but he hasn't suffered such a lengthy one before. I think you'll break sixty-points, as Sturridge should at least make a discernible difference and you have been better, but I would be astonished if you amass more than seventy and even a bit surprised at more than sixty-five.
