Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

What happens happens in the Basle game is very key, CL shuts down until March so there's a couple months to get some shit together, Europa league is a different animal, from what we've seen from Liverpool so far I say the more games the better.

I don't think he's going to sign a new deal, I do think he'll retire as a one club man though.

According to google there's CL fixtures in mid Feb, we've only been out of it one year mate!

No chance he retires this season unless it's down to injury/personal issues.

He'll be 35 next season. His legs have gone, he knows Rodgers fecked up any chance they had of progressing with the transfers he made, he knows he'll likely never play in the Champions League again save for a big result against Basel. I think last season broke him, they were riding the wave and he felt it was finally going to happen and now he knows he will never win the league.

What's he got left to fight for? I think he's done.

Was watching their game in the background, Leicester were on top even when down to 10 men. Some comedy errors from Leicester gifted Liverpool the victory.

Gerrard proving his critics wrong once again and showing why he still can play a big role in this Liverpool team. He was very good tonight.
Didn't watch the game of course but would being 'very good' against Leicester really be proving his critics wrong when he's been poor in most games he's played and very poor in games against decent to good opposition?

Most former greats are still capable of the odd good game from time to time. Doesn't mean they've proven critics wrong or aren't well past their best.

Leicester were dreadful - and how they scored 5 in one game vs somebody or other must be one of the greatest mystery events of all time. But this is a better balanced/organised Liverpool team. Lambert is a sensible centre forward, Lovren isn't playing, Stevie is away from DM and Lallana can help him out on the right of MF with a bit of filling in over there when necessary. Sterling goes to the left to provide the pace on the break which is probably why they don't have Moreno at LB. MF looks a lot more solid with Lucas in, to provide a bit of mindless clogging when necessary and protect the central defence, which he did well.

Gerrard was the main topic in every radio football show/podcasts from Saturday til Monday

Now "The love of England" has scored a goal and is again the main topic in the press/media today

Oh what would have happened if he would have won the Premier League last season

Win and they're into the knockouts, lose by 1/draw? and they're in Europa?

Any Liverpool fans on here worried that Mignolet is regressing into the second coming of Reina? Not the good version of Reina either, this one...

There seems to be at least 1 or 2 dodgy moments per game right now.

I'm not worried. Only because he's already far, far worse than Reina was in his bad spell for us. Without having the brilliant seasons Reina had before hand too.

He's a joke, when your fans are calling for Brad Jones to start you know it's bad.

 Good memories

Haven't heard those calls. At Sunderland he was an exceptional shot stopper and there is a bloody good Premier League keeper in there somewhere once more but the pass against Leicester, the failure to deal with crosses and some attacks recently too, they're all glaring errors of a man shot on confidence and a shell of his former self.

Football is a funny old game and he'll probably turn it around against us with a top notch performance but it must be really worrying. The Leicester game should have been 2-0 down before you scored and it could have been costly.

Couldn't care less what he was like at Sunderland, it's a hell of a lot easier to look good at a smaller club with less pressure. At Liverpool he's had a couple of good months followed by nearly an entire 12 months of embarrassment.

Surely being a good shot stopper is something every Premier League keeper should be? Even at that he's inconsistent - makes a few wonder saves then next thing he'll let in a pea roller. Beyond that, he has no confidence in himself, doesn't communicate well, is atrocious at distributing and refuses to come off his line. He belongs in the bin.

Fair enough @Bob Loblaw - I know Rodgers signed him but was he a Rodgers signing in terms of scouted and chosen or was it a case of the MD saying "Pepe Reina is leaving, here's a choice of potential replacements, which one do you want?" type scenario.

Who, realistically, would you like the club to go for in January?

I'm not sure. What Rodgers wanted in a keeper and what he went out and got with Mignolet are completely contradictory. He wanted a keeper who could sweep well and who could play out from the back, both of which are Mignolet's weaknesses. Never heard any talk of Mignolet being forced on him though, and Rodgers always speaks highly of him, so I think it was just a poor signing.

No idea, as with all January transfers it depends on who is available. Most important thing though is we don't just sign a stop-gap, we badly need a long term keeper who fits the system. Valdés would have been nice if he recovered well from his injury, but that deal is dead.

Really surprised given I thought and stated Liverpool would comfortably stay in the top four this season, with us struggling to get back in. They really are pants as a team. Some decent players here or there but just doesn't flow at all.

Not convinced Sturridge is going to help them much either when he's back. They'll be better most likely but not significantly.

I reckon Sturridge will improve them greatly. Not just the fact he's a great player but it gives defenders something else to worry about besides Sterling.

Can't see it not taking him a decent amount of games to get his rhythm back though. I'm sure they're hoping he comes back firing on all cylinders but it's rarely the way it works out.

Did the dive and the subsequent shocked reaction from slippy g get any attention?

What has happened to Sakho?

Why is he out of favour and not getting games? Especially when Skrtle and Lovren have been diabolical?

He left the stadium in a huff after being dropped and has been 'injured' ever since.

Rodgers handling of Slippy G has made him being dropped a far bigger story than it should be. It's pretty normal for players to be rotated these days, especially guys as old as Gerrard, but the fact he's played him in almost every game until now has made it a story.

He'd be far more effective in the games he plays if he only played once a week. I still think he's decent, but the guy is knackered.

So he wasn't picked for a game but he didn't know until he showed up to the stadium? Then when he found out he just left and has not been seen from since? WTF?

Well that raises some interesting questions regarding Rodgers - I would have thought the team was settled and the side notified prior to turning up to the game.
