Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

I think rather than worrying about Rodgers will spend the money, the concern has to be that FSG won't trust him with money themselves. They'd be well within their rights to refuse to give him any transfer money in January, but I hope that doesn't happen.

That's a right concern too to be fair.

Haven't Liverpool had a terrible transfer policy for the last 25 years?

Up until recently they'd spent more than Utd and Arsenal for a fraction of the success & zero league titles. Nothing has really changed since Rodgers or these owners have arrived.

That can't be true can it???

You know, come May, it is entirely possible that Southampton, West Ham and Newcastle's summer spending will have been much more effective than Liverpool's.
Pool fans should be asking serious questions if thats the case, particularly given the Suarez windfall.

It is indeed true. This is 1992-2012 according to the source, even though it says 13/14 in the table. I'm pretty sure we've comfortably over-taken them now though.

I expect us to buy a striker in January. It must be blindingly obvious to FSG and BR, despite the crap that's feed to the media, that Sturridge can not be depended on to stay healthy and without him we are feather-light, that Mario may or may come good for us but that it's unlikely, that Borini is not good enough though decent enough at #4 for now and that Lambert, I am very very sorry to say, is never going to offer us much/anything we can rely on.

So :-

January : Borini goes and we get ourselves a shiny new striker. We have, according to the Echo, scouted Doumbia (sp) 5 times so far and he looks right for us, pacey (read: blindingly fast), knows where the net is and won't break the bank.

Summer 15 : A player like Firmino (hopefully it will actually be him) will replace Lambert who is released. Origi comes to town. Maybe Shaqiri too ?

Summer 16 : Proven striker replaces Mario who by now can hardly get a spot on the bench.

We start the 2016/17 season with : Sturridge, Doumbia, Origi, Proven Striker and have Firmino (or another of his ilk), Sterling, Ibe, Suso, Markovic (who is now pulling up trees), Lallana and maybe Shaqiri or a youth who has broken through (or been bought, a la Odengaard or Roberts) in behind / across / wings.

I enjoyed that. Feel much better now !

If we are to sign a striker I'd want Lacazzette or someone young like that who can play on the wing too. I'd rather see Ibe given a chance than buying Firmino. We also have the likes of Wilson, Ojo and Kent who will be queuing up and Wilson in particular looks like he's destined for stardom. You're 2017 list has far too many players that will want to play regularly in it.

Wow that is just sad.

Its all the owners fault, the clubs been mismanaged for years.

Last year was just the fluke we all pointed towards, would have been interesting had they actually (god forbid) won the league how much more scouse giro Brendan would have been allowed to spunk on dross. Guess we'll never know.

It is but I think its unlikely. Given we've spent on players like DiMaria to give one example. Tottenham's spend is last year is the equivalents to Liverpool's this year. I just think that if Newcastle French recruitment strategy or Southampton with their Eredivise recruitment have unearthed a few gems, Liverpools summer will look even more disappointing.

No, it isn't. It's such a lazy comparison. Moreno, Manquillo, Can, Lallana and Origi have all looked good so far. Lambert, Lovren and Balotelli have looked poor. Markovic looks frightened. I'm prepared to give Mario a month of playing with Sturridge before I completely write him off.

We will see how they have performed at the end of the season amd then we'll be able to make a proper judgement.

I'm sure tottenham fans would list Lallana, Soldado, Erriksen, Capoue and Chirches just like you listed Moreno, Manquillo, Can, Lallana. Very similar situation. The only difference being Spurs hadn't finished second when they spent their Bale fund. Liverpool spend could result in a fall from grace. Spurs misspend just underwhelmed.

It looks like everytime Liverpool have come close to the league title, they have slipped up the next season. I was very afraid when Balotelli came to Liverpool thinking he will fulfill his talent there. Was similarly scared when Robbie Keane came to Liverpool.

Frankly there is talent in the team. No one can deny that. Although right now it is funny that Balotelli is having a nightmare in front of the goal i feel if he gets serious then he will start scoring.

All he needs is some hard work and luck. I just cannot understand what stops him from thinking that people are not happy with my performance (except united fans :D) and i need to work harder.

I hope he continues to be like this.

I am not sure about the other buys this season at Liverpool but players like Lambert and all are not going to help Liverpool to win the title and Rodgers has wasted a lot of the suarez funds.

This season it feels like it will be head on battle between United and Liverpool competing for the 4th place.

Hope United wins it.

What Spurs supporter thinks Soldado or Capoue were good? Eriksen was and so was Chiriches and that's it.

Thats my point. For Solado see no further than Balotelli. And for Capoue you may well be looking at Lovren come May. If not Lovren you are already looking at Sahko. We'll see.

For Liverpool, City and Arsenal.

Honestly, I don't see how Liverpool are going to come second this season. For me it is City and then Arsenal with an outside chance.

Liverpool have far too many issues right now. Their defense is leaky and their only productive striker is injured. Team chemistry isn't great (like last year) and the extra CL games won't help even if you keep fielding reserve sides.

You make it sound like Balotelli's problem is only in his head and all he needs to do is to 'get serious' or get his attitude right and he'll start scoring bucketloads. He's not half as talented as most people try to make out.

I genuinely still think 2nd could be up for grabs if City continue to arse around.
Thing is, even if City continue to lose points, you lot are bound to as well. I can't see you getting 2nd this year.

Too many ifs and buts at the moment, but this Liverpool team do not look like top 2 material.

For Liverpool, City and Arsenal.
Not for united though? We are currently ahead of you guys?

For me, second is all city, and at a push, Arsenal. I don't see Southampton, West Ham, and Swansea maintaining their current form all season long.

Liverpool have a small chance of fourth if Sturridge stays fit for the rest of the season and scores consistently. Otherwise, no chance.

Also worth noting that Liverpool have been poor in the cup competitions under Rodgers. They probably have to get knocked out of everything so they can focus on the league like last year.

He doesn't even play for you yet. :wenger:

He's playing in an inferior league at the moment. It'd be like us getting excited about Bebe's form on loan last season.
I think you have to look at his progression, the fact he's now a regular for the current excellent Belgium team (scoring 3 goals in 11 matches), and his progression as a 19 year old ( 1:10 2012 season, 6:35 2013 and 4:17 plus 2 assists in 2014) all the while bearing in mind that as a 17/18/19 y.o youngster he's only started about half of those matches and also been subbed off as much as subbed on. We shouldn't be claiming he's going to be a world-class star (even though half a dozen top players/managers have said just that), he's not exactly prolific yet either (though he did score 10:19 for Belgium U19s in 2012/13), as there are lots of excellent youngsters that fail to take the next step up, but this kid looks to have an awful lot in his locker.

Another Origi goal last night (on his weaker foot) :

I think FSG needs to trust him,
He take Liverpool from 7th to 2nd, Yes he make blander in transfer market but its happens sometime it didn't work.
If FSG don't trust him with money, then I think end or Rodgers is near.

That's a big point imo. The injury-prone Sturridge will probably have to go the rest of the season without missing a league game for Liverpool to get close to 4th. It's a massive if.

And with the cups, Rodgers has never won a trophy so he arguably needs one almost as much as they need top 4. But there's a huge chance he lands neither.

We have a good shot at the League Cup this year although it won't be easy, even against Bournemouth. However, that doesn't really count as a proper cup in my eyes. We shouldn't be bothering ourselves with the FA Cup as we've got enough games to play already and god forbid we end up in the Europa League..

On a sidenote, just wasted two hours of my life trying to buy tickets to our fixtures after New Year. Our ticketing system is ridiculous, all games were sold while my estimated time left was still 'over an hour', unbelievable. Pretty gutted right now, second time in a row I miss out on any tickets whatsoever.

I agree. His best purchases have come in January.
