Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

To be fair though, Henderson's bad performances are still probably a 6.5/10, while Wilshere's are a 2/10.

Henderson's best isn't a 6.5/10 though. He's a much better player than that. When looking through a list if centre midfielders in the league only Fabregas (he's by a distance the best), Toure, Ramsey and Matic are better than him IMO.

No, we couldn't because we can't afford their wages!!!
Or maybe you're not as attractive a proposition to play for as the biggest club (or 2nd biggest, whatever) in the world, the big London clubs (I mean, London or Liverpool, tough choice, that) or the other Manchester club currently winning lots of trophies.

Yeah, that sounds like the more likely scenario to me.

I agree, he's better than a 6.5/10. Was just making the point that he's reliable.

How did City attract Aguero and Silva? They weren't winning trophies at the time.

Well actually you could afford Di Maria, you spent £120m, only £30m less than us, this summer. You could also afford Sanchez (who reportedly rejected you), Fabregas, Costa etc. Basically according to your summer spending spree and recent activity you could most definitely afford pretty much every top player who has moved into the premier league.

So yeah, you can't attract them.
Are we really going to go there again ? And go through the whole list of those who we tried for but couldn't get for one reason or another and those we didn't even try for ? And those who had eyes only for Chelsea ?

I refuse to believe those players out weren't bursting to play at a stadium like this. It's what you dream of. I imagine there are a few pissed off people tonight.

Hardly a ringing endorsement of his team and a confidence booster.

Sterling will have to wait until his summer transfer to Real before making his debut in the stadium.

Speaking of Liverpool, what Rodgers did tonight against madrid with the poor lineup demonstrates an incredibly smalltime mentality.

That line up is pathetic. That being said, I don't think this will be as much of a stuffing as expected

Which is exactly what I've been saying.
That is by far the biggest attraction for City, at least at that time. But with the quantity AND quality of players they brought in in that short period it must have looked like a decent project to some players.

Hang on, so you're saying that you lot wouldn't be able to pay Di Maria 200k a week despite signing around 10 players in the summer for a combined 140 odd million?

Liverpool just can't attract that brand of player anymore, admit it.

Gas, I can't be arsed to get into a a stupid argument with you. If that's what you want to take out of it then go ahead.
Just sounds a bit small time mate, that's all I'm saying, because it does, as does that team selection tonight. I am actually at the point where I feel a bit of a pang of pity, either that or I just need a good fart.

£200k at a push, yes. He's on £280k though (according to the Guardian and other newspapers).

Your next captain. A real drop down from Steven Gerrard at the same age.

That was a very different time, barney, City had riches far beyond anyone else, now there are clubs everywhere like that and having money won't simply attract the big names to you anymore. If you believe that Liverpool suddenly becoming super rich would make you as attractive a proposition as the teams you're suggesting right now then you're totally deluded.

I'm confused with this one. I wanted to watch a good game tonight. Liverpool have been poison so far this season but to weaken a poison side further and play arguably the best team in the world.........oh dear this may not be pretty.

Um, isn't that my point? You can't attract these players because they'd rather go elsewhere.

If Liverpool don't put in a good performance tonight, and don't get a result vs Chelsea, Rodgers is going to get a world of shit from the press.

lose this and the chelsea game at the weekend and united could lose every game from now until the end of the season and we still wouldn't be so pathetic.

You've got to give BR credit .... he must know he is going to get a shit-storm of abuse for that team yet he is prepared to take it to put out what he obviously feels is his strongest team, fresh, against Chelsea.

may as well not bother against chelsea. worst that happens is you somehow win and then have to go through the ignominy of potentially qualifying for the champions league again, only to give up by the 4th round again next year.

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw their team. They qualified after a few years on UCL and looks to have already give up. Where is the point of qualifying for it, if you don't even try to do well there? For a club that spends half its time trying to remember everybody how big they are, this is quite a bad attitude. It is something that small clubs did when they came to Old Trafford during Fergie's time.

Brilliant post.

Will these players now play on the weekend? Surely this shows that maybe if you had played your full team then you had a chance
I don't think lucas is doing any harm to his chances. Manquillo for me was at fault for the first goal. I'd like us to go for Coleman and McCarthy in the transfer window but that's never going to happen. For me at the minute I'd stick Lucas in the defensive midfield berth against Chelsea as it's his natural position. Not sure that anyone else has overly impressed. Can has done grand and markovic has had his best game so far but we've no presence up top and haven't created an real chances.
