Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

It's pretty safe to say now that we'll drop Liverpool out of the top four. The only open question is whether they drop further than fifth. Probably not, but don't write them off from doing that quite yet.

 Let's wait and see after a few more matches I think. Beating QPR at home was good but let's not pretend they are a good team.

Liverpool fans, are you challenging City/Chelsea for the title this season or are you battling it out with United/Arsenal/Spurs for 4th place? Interested to hear your views.
After four league games last year Liverpool were a tad underwhelming but got a few wins. This season, Liverpool are a underwhelming and sloppy. The point is, last season at this stage nobody knew the winter and spring would be so good after an indifferent autumn. I'd say that this team will improve and that's when a true call can be made.

Nah they'll finish in the top 4 comfortably. Have you seen the state of arsenal?

I agree with this, There is no safe bet they will drop out of the Top 4, In fact I think they will stay in the Top 4, I just hope that we replace Arsenal which could easily happen if they continue the form they are showing.

Liverpool are a different beast when they have Sturridge and Sterling in tandem compared to the 11 we have seen in the last 2 games, Let's just hope he misses a few more league games and they keep playing poorly. Either way though I think they will drop alot more points this season, Mainly down to not having Suarez and not getting as many dodgy penalties

Team most likely to drop out of top 4 is Arsenal.

I think we're more likely than Arsenal to (but I don't think we will). I also think we're more likely than Arsenal to finish in the top two or three though.

Fighting for CL spots. We won't have enough firepower this season for a tilt at the title.

If we improve gradually as we did last time around then we'll finish top three. If we continue like this then fourth will be a struggle.

I think there is a big possibility of Mourinho walking the league this season. I definitely think second is attainable and realistic, first depends on how well Chelsea do. I said second at the start of the season and that's what I'll stick with.

I can see this being a difficult season for Liverpool, given the increased expectations they are now under. From the matches I've seen, they were good against Spurs but pretty poor all other times. Its to be expected when you lose your star player though.

I think only City and Chelsea can be truly comfortable with top four given how competitive the league is.

Chelsea and City will finish in the top two. No one else will come close to breaking into those positions. Quote me on that.

I don't think so, Arsenal at times don't even look like a team, they'll need to pray that the don't lose Ramsay/Sanchez this season as it could end up to be their undoing. You have a better team in general than Arsenal and you have better depth and that'll help you in the long run, both your defences have looked a bit up and down at the start but your's is completely new and bedding in whereas Arsenal's core centre-halves have been together years and they still look shaky, they really messed up by not getting a DM.

Top 4 should be the aim, anything else is a bonus. I thought before the season that it would be between us and United for 4th place but Arsenal look like they'll be dragged into it too. Neither team looks particularly strong right now but it's too difficult to call long term, depends how well your signings click and I guess the same applies to us.

Precisely. I don't know how Arsenal do it, but every season they are touted to have improved a lot over the previous season, even actually showing evidence of it in the long run.

Strange Señor has left Everton out in the battle for 4th despite us finishing above United and Spurs.

It won't matter if you get 4th as you'll just go and lose to Villareal again. ;)

I don't see you getting 4th or 5th. I can definitely see you finishing ahead of Spurs though (I think you will). I think you lot should try to win the Europa league.

I would be willing to finish 15th if it meant we could win a cup. I hope we put out the best team possible for the match tonight and rest people against Palace on the weekend if needed.

It's too early to say where we will finish, apart from the Tottenham game we have been pretty average so far.
However, there are a lot of factors, Lallana missed nearly all of pre-season and still isn't fully fit, Markovic has also been injured, Flanagan hasn't featured at all due to an injury, Skrtel, Sturridge, Allen and now Can are also out.
International break did us no good at all.
Despite all that our bench still looks stronger.

Balotelli needs to fit in and we need to adapt a little to how he plays, and vice versa, clearly it will take the likes of Lallana and Markovic time to adapt. Last season we played excellent football that was free flowing most weeks but had a lot of the time a fairly settled side, with limited options to change. Now we have so many options it will take time for the players to gel, we are a way off that yet.
We also have 3 new defenders playing too. I suppose there is an argument for saying we have changed too many personnel too soon.

That all said we need to stop conceding soft goals, and at the moment we still are.

Bar Chelsea and City the other places are wide open.

I agree, if football was based on the first 11 written on paper.

We have already seen shocks in the first 4 games; Swansea vs United, City vs Stoke, Liverpool vs Villa. Like last year I think it will be the teams that build their confidence quickest as that will develop their momentum. The 5 teams (Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Everton and United) have not played particularly well yet, so be interesting who will step up.

I actually forget how strong Everton's team is, especially with the permanent addition of Lukaku, Naismith's started the season in good form, you have a very good keeper in Howard (you're welcome) and you have a strong defence (most of the time) and I'm a huge fan of Stones and Coleman, and your midfield has a good balance with Barry and McCarthy. Everton should definitely be considered in the 4th place contenders bracket to be fair.

I don't expect us to finish 4th but I am confident we have a better side than Spurs who seems are always tipped to finish above us. I suppose it is because they are a London club.

Howard is a bang average keeper. He had a very good world cup, but hasn't really produced that type of form for Everton in recent seasons. I was surprised they gave him a new contract.

I strongly disagree, I don't think he's world class by any means but he is a good, solid keeper, he has mistakes in but hey so do all keepers.

He was great last season, his best season for us In fact. He is a good goalkeeper, one of the better ones in the league and I am happy for us to have him for many reasons.

Could be. Or could be because last season was the first in the past 5 seasons you've finished above us ;)

I can happily say you are a stronger and better team than Spurs but they're a more flashy club, last year was a very different premier league season than most are used to seeing, but in previous seasons it would be understandable to think that they could finish above you, they had excellent players in the shape of Bale and Modric who, in my opinion, are both world class players and when at Spurs both would have been in the top 10 players in the league, and having players like that has to be taken into account because for years we've seen individual players win points. RvP, Suarez and Bale are good examples.

I agree, except I would add City to that list. People are assuming that City are nailed down for top two, but I think they could easily finish third or fourth and possibly even outside of top four (very unlikely). The only convincing team so far is Chelsea.

Flanagan needs knee surgery so he's out for another few months. Poor guy, was just about back from his injury...

I don't understand what is wrong with arsenals form. We've got more points than Man Utd despite playing Leicester Everton crystal palace and man city, compared to your Swansea Sunderland burnley and QPR.

Surely if you are going to bring form into it your case isn't helped.

Ahh, that's a shame. Was about to get a new contract too. I like Flanagan as second choice right back and left back. Manquillo and Moreno are both significant upgrades on him though so he'd more than likely struggle to get in ahead of them.

Yeah that's how I see it too. Don't think Flanagan is good enough to start for us regularly but he's good, versatile back-up.

Plus I never expected him to even make it as a squad player here so he could prove me wrong again and develop into first team material.

Think Allen is out of the West Ham game too by the way.

Allen is a big miss. He's had a very good start to the season and with Coutinho woefully out of form and Lallana not fully fit he'd have been very useful for this game.

As long as we go with the diamond I'll be happy.

Confirmed now, Allen out of Saturday's game(and a few weeks on top). Skrtel back training now, Johnson training soon but Sturridge not until next week.

Shame about Allen.

In a similar vein to Henderson, I actually think he's improved a lot this past year and has started to become an important player in the middle for us. We seem unbalanced without him.

Also, I think it's a testament to some of the work we've done in the transfer window that we can have the amount of injuries we've had so far and it's gone pretty much unnoticed because we still have a solid squad on paper to put out each week.

I think we have a better chance of displacing Liverpool from the top 4. I think it will be Chelsea, City, Man Utd and Arsenal in any order making up the top 4 this season.
