Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

I'd love 'em to end up in the Europa Lge.

Dropping 2pts last night would have made Basle away, deliciously massive. Very disappointed with last night's jammy late win via yet another sodding penalty.

Why always Steve G ? Was this a breath taking one man perormance that dragged the lowly liverpool to victory against some mighty european giants? no he scored a penalty (feck sake)
It's a neat headline. It's in the Daily Mirror. Not too serious.

I can't definitively say that you have.

Settling into a back four consisting of three new signings. He's not looked a £20m player so far, but he's played five games.

He didn't have a preseason because he was injured. Going to the world cup and not getting a kick hardly constitutes a preseason.

Moreno has looked superb since his mistake against City. Manquillo has looked very good when he's played. The rest have been okay, but again, haven't played anywhere near enough to make a proper judgement on them. We've played much harder opposition than you thus far and are in an ok position.
Nonsense, there's more than enough evidence to write off the new signings, Liverpool's season and that charlatan Rodgers.

Might be wishful thinking from me, but i honestly question Liverpools ability to contend for top four without Suarez. As much as a cnut he is, you simply can't deny what an incredible footballer he is. True, they have quality up front with Sterling, Sturridge and Coutinho, but none of them are near the level of the cannibal.

Also, as many have mentioned, Rodgers splashed a lot of cash on pretty mediocre players this summer. Depth is fine and all, but depth alone won't get you far when you consider the talent the best teams in the league can field.

Nice throwback pic of Liverpool's new vice-captain.
Is that Rooney behind him on the right ?

This.

Can't believe how poor they look right now. Lallala inparticular looks awful. £25m you say?

In Lallana's defense it's his 2nd game back. I don't rate him that highly (not what they paid for him anyway) but I think he will be decent eventually.

True it's early days yet but he didn't just look rusty to me last night, he looked a level below what you expect from a CL side. With the huge transfer fee to boot, it's not looking like a good bit of business by Rodgers. We will have to wait and see though, fair enough.

Come on now. You're sounding like Liverpool fans downplaying United for the exact same reasons.

Judging the new players to be shit before even watching them play. But I can certainly see the fun in doing that

What's the difference?

The same thing we saw from Fellaini within his first two or three games. Clearly not good enough & a level below what we expect at a big club.

Perhaps that's harsh but I'll be amazed if he suddenly starts to look like a quality £25m player once he has a run of games under his belt. If anything he'll drop out once Sturridge is back.

There's been a lot of talk about Liverpool adding "depth" in the summer, I can't see it myself looking at the starting eleven and the bench last night. That was, barring Sturridge their best 11 that Rodgers fielded last night and they looked awful against the team in their group they should've trounced at home, god help them away to Real.

Don't think that means we haven't added depth though. I think we have, though clearly our starting 11 is weaker.

Don't get me wrong I don't think we're extremely strong depth wise but last season with everyone fit our attacking bench options would be Allen/Coutinho, Aspas, Victor Moses or Luis Alberto. This year we've the likes of Lallana and Marković to call upon instead. Not a huge improvement but still better.

We were missing Skrtel, Flanagan, Johnson, Allen, Markovic, Can and Sturridge from our squad...

Ah, I'd actually forgot about Can already when thinking about bench options! He's a big loss for us at the minute I think.

Lallana and Markovic are massive improvements on Moses and Aspas. I don't know how you can say they're not. Lallana was one of the better players in the premier league last season whereas Aspas and Moses were jokes.

I agree, probably didn't word my post properly but by not a huge upgrade I was talking about the number of squad players added, not the quality. Having Lallana or Marković to bring on is a lot better than the position we were in last season.

5 or 6 of them would have been in our 18 man squad if we had them available. It doesn't matter whether the jury is out on them or not. They'd still get in our squad.

Not disagreeing with that but it's not that great in all honesty.

Uh oh, spaghettio, Chelsea only drew at home. Against a poor Schalke. Seems like they're just a one man team and this guarantees Man Utd to be crowned champions of England in May.*

gasmanc and thegreggs probably warming up their DVD players.

*tongue in cheek

Was there any doubt. Costa injured, it is all falling in to place. Let the conspiracy start;)

Would you like some lemon with your sour?

I would have thought losing the bolded two would be to your advantage, kinda like us losing Fellaini.

Of those surely only Sturridge threatens the first team, though accept the point is re the bench/squad

There you go living in the past again, we have hard drives and media players these days. Old skool.

Some good news before I go to bed... Maddock is reporting that Sturridge has returned to trainjng and he could feature against West Ham.

Sounds good. Just as long as he's not rushed back too soon of course.

Liverpool fans, are you challenging City/Chelsea for the title this season or are you battling it out with United/Arsenal/Spurs for 4th place? Interested to hear your views.

He does pop up whenever they need him, that lad. Still astonished at his brace against us at OT last season.
Missed a sitter for his hattrick, if I recall. Scored against us already in pre-season too. One to watch definitely.

Good point. He's like the field goal kicker from gridiron special play team.... Does he only come on the pitch now for penalties, not seen him do anything else.

It's pretty safe to say now that we'll drop Liverpool out of the top four. The only open question is whether they drop further than fifth. Probably not, but don't write them off from doing that quite yet.
