Lisandro Martinez | Signs for United

Has to be said, Ajax played that perfectly, got what they wanted + 4M for fun. He must be better than Ben White :o
Apparently Arsenal's opening bid was €25m+5m

It's strange how United have now paid more than ever was reported as what Ajax were looking for. Normally Ajax works with quite easily achievable add ons. However with these numbers I could imagine the add on conditions are more difficult to achieve in this case.

I'm quite surprised by this transfer, especially for that money. He does have a great mentality, always works hard, never gives up. But I have my doubts about him, hope I'm wrong.

Thats even better because the journalist in question mentioned 55m few days back. This addons part is something that came up today only

Indeed, it started at 40m, then Dutch reports said Ajax want 50m, now it's 54m guaranteed fees plus 10m add-ons, which is quite steep fee tbh, let's see what figure is announced by Ajax.

There is always reasons for high prices.

Ajax extended his contract last year (till 2025)
Ajax is financially healthy and doesnt need to sell.
Ajax didnt want to sell.

United had competition for Martinez in Arsenal.
United usually overpays.
United really wanted Martinez.

This is insane!
We are paying close to Maguire money for a midget from the Eredivision.

Maguire: 89million transfer fee / 194cm = 0.45million per cm

Martinez: 64 million transfer fee / 175cm = 0.37million per cm

Remains to be seen, but Ben White aint worth anywhere close to 50M. He's about to lose his place to Saliba.

All jokes aside it's worth paying a little extra to keep the good vibes with the manager.

Imagine a window where we don't get either of his top targets (FDJ,Martinez) that would not be a good way to start his reign.

A few extra quid isn't an issue in the grand scheme.

Christ that’s a lot of money for a defender from the Dutch league.
If he was an inch taller he'd be the best centre-half in Britain. His father is 6ft 2in – I'd check the milkman.

Oh well, in ETH I trust, welcome aboard Lisandro

Let's not derail the thread but i'll bet you Saliba doesn't start more than 20/25 games this season all comps. He's not displacing anyone before we see him play in England and renew his contract.

Not my money but that's too much.

Masters of negotiation. Imagine what they'll now expect for Antony. The club is run by absolute morons. Murtough isn't even close the being the slick operator that people make him out to be. Utterly insane fee for a defender from the dutch league. FFS attackers from that shitty league have never gone for that. fecking hell.

Should have gone all in on De Ligt, easily worth the 10-20m extra that Bayern will nab him for.

Ridiculous fee but he can't possibly be worse than Maguire who we paid £80m for so whatever. It's clear to see that our new recruitment team is just as naive and clueless as the last one though.

We are buying their current player of the year who has 3 years contract, we were never gonna get him on the cheap
Exactly. This is what I said all along. United were always going to have to pay jackpot because of that. Didn't imagine it'd be this high though. Thought United could've landed him for 50-55m, including add-ons. Ajax really stood firm here. I actually feel Ajax got pissed off it took United so long to seal the deal and therefore only stood more firm. Definitely doesn't seem VDS interfered to let Ajax's representatives know they should ease off a bit, but more pressing Uniteds people to pay or shut up and he doesn't appreciate his former club to unsettle Ajax' players.

It does seem like Uniteds lowballing tactics dont really work and only drag out the negstiations for a long time. United are now paying more than was ever suggested foe Martinez and also the fee agreed with Barca seems to have only increased from earlier reports. Of course it could be journalists just being wrong the whole time, but in both cases I'd say United could have landed the player faster. Although of course with FdJ there's a wage issue. Nevertheless I'm pretty sure Martinez could have been in Australia right now if United would have offered these amounts a week ago.

Our club is owned by rich arseholes who we all hate, yet for some reason people have a personal attachment to how much we buy players for.

Kind of strange tbh.

Why are people crying about fees. Not your cash is it.

£45m these days is £20m 5 years ago. Pretty standard.

Crazy isn’t it.

I’ve come to the conclusion the Caf is full of weird cnuts

No he doesn’t have to deliver shit. Stop trying to put unnecessary pressure on a player we haven’t bought yet. You are acting like we paid 100 million for him. Spurs literally spent 60 million on a back up striker, Arsenal about to spend 35-40 million on a backup LB.

I love this club but I hate the fans very much OMG. Sometimes I want the club to fail because fans like you don’t deserve to celebrate success with the club.

Talking about he has to deliver now. How so? You are not even going to give him half a season to adjust to the league? The I want it now mentally is mind boggling.

Wound up much?

Generally speaking you can expect attacking players to be more expensive. Maguire & VVD are the only 2 defenders in the top 20 most expensive transfers of all time.

Arsenal have signed a PL proven, league winning left back for 35m.

We've spent double that on a kid new to the league, which is a big risk.

Any player, much less a defender bought for this kind of fee will have huge pressure / expectation on them.

White signed a year ago for Arsenal for £50m and the pressure was instant for him.

The higher the fee, the greater the expectation is to deliver.... just how it goes.

How is it competition from Arsenal if he rejected them and only wanted to come to OT?
