Not my money but that's too much.
Wait, what!! 15m overpaid I believe.
Not my money but that's too much.
What’s the issue? Is it your money?Feel free to add context....
You don't agree great.
I'm certain he will be. We haven't exactly got ourselves a bargain, but it isn't too much higher than market value really.Time will tell, €64m seems a bit steep for me but its done.
He absolutely has to be a starting CB for that sum of money.
What’s the issue? Is it your money?
If the people putting the money down think he’s worth it then whatever, who cares. There’s no reason to raise blood pressure over it !!!1

People getting worked up over prices are probably the same people saying just pay the fecking money when it's dragging on.
I really dislike this sentiment.
And also the genuises who don't realise that if we overpay £15-20m on a signing, there's 15-20m less for the next signing.
Do you say this sort of thing when the Glazers take money out of the club each year?
It's not your money after all.
It’s up to the accountants to ensure that doesn’t happen. I’m not one of them, so why would I bother about what is to a club like Manchester United, back of the sofa change?I really dislike this sentiment.
Would you like us to spend stupidly on every transfer and over pay on wages, go the route of Barca? We already have 500m plus in debt. I think the 2nd or 3rd largest debt for a European club.
Aside from that, we all want value for money. We've clearly overpaid here and that most likely is because we were caught up in the FDJ transfer and in the mean time Ajax sold Haller & Gravenberch meaning it strengthened Ajax bargaining.
It's a hefty sum of money and means he has to deliver, unlike say Malacia who brings little risk.
Exactly. The two fees now quoted for De Jong and Martinez means we will have no money left in the pot for anyone else. That’s leaves us with no back up striker, no natural RW, Dalot starting and one of McFred.
You knew we weren't gonna sign all those players right?Exactly. The two fees now quoted for De Jong and Martinez means we will have no money left in the pot for anyone else. That’s leaves us with no back up striker, no natural RW, Dalot starting and one of McFred.
I’m not a fan of the Glazers and their business practices, but it is their money. There’s nothing I can do about it so why get stressed?

If we can shift a couple of players we might get more in but I'm not hopeful
If we overpay then naturally fees will become overinflated. It’s important to get as good a price as we can for that reason alone. What’s the issue? Is it your money?

That's why I said I'm not hopeful. No need for the sarcastic toneAh the classic yearly thread with fanciful figures we're supposedly going to receive for our players.
We released most of the players we'd have sold for any sort of value and scraped in £10m for Pereira.
Who do you think is sellable now?
It's not their money though. At all.
Everyone agreed that Liverpool overpaid for Van Dijk at the time. Hindsight is always 20/20.I'm not stressed, just highlighting the fact we've overpaid.
He has to deliver now with a price tag like that attached.
Plenty here have already voiced concerns over his height / size in the most physical league in Europe.
I really hope he delivers, but its fair for any supporter to say we've over paid here.

It is decent money, but the extra few quid makes no difference to the bolded part than if he was bought for the fee that was being quoted a few hours ago.
Overpaying is all relatively and that’s for the clubs people to work out. I’ve thought plenty of players were bargains and went on to be dreadful, and plenty were overpriced and went on to be a steal. If we overpay then naturally fees will become overinflated. I agree with you but I don’t really like needlessly overpaying.Overpaying is all relatively and that’s for the clubs people to work out. I’ve thought plenty of players were bargains and went on to be dreadful, and plenty were overpriced and went on to be a steal.
The fact is we know absolutely nothing about the clubs relative finances and a players relative ability to play in the side being put together. It’s not worth the hysteria.
The teams that seem to thrive with a tiny / non quick player at centre backs are teams who boss their league and have a high possession style of football.
Even then they often have counter measures, such as having players like Walker with outrageous pace/recovery skills next to them.
Hopefully we can move to the possession style of football, and this guy is as much of a ball playing, genius 1 on 1 man as has been described.
We were told Maguire's ideal partner was pacey though, which was what Varane was meant to be, especially having height on top.
So it'll be interesting which of the 2 this new guy replaces. It seems unthinkable we'll leave an 80m man out or Varane long term.
Good point actuallyNow I know why we insisted on agreeing on the De Jong fee prior to signing Martinez
No he doesn’t have to deliver shit. Stop trying to put unnecessary pressure on a player we haven’t bought yet. You are acting like we paid 100 million for him. Spurs literally spent 60 million on a back up striker, Arsenal about to spend 35-40 million on a backup LB.I'm not stressed, just highlighting the fact we've overpaid.

If course he's better come on.Has to be said, Ajax played that perfectly, got what they wanted + 4M for fun. He must be better than Ben White
Just few days back it was 55m euros maximum. Will wait for likes of Ducker to confirm the price.
Thats even better because the journalist in question mentioned 55m few days back. This addons part is something that came up today onlyNo need, Ajax will officially announce the amount of transfer fee agreed.
