Reading is difficult, clearly.c
What a load of rubbish. If he had the choice between joining Arteta and Arsenal or ETH and United, he isn't going to choose Arsenal.

How is Zinchenko irrelevant to this? It's the player Arsenal moved onto after failing to sign Martinez.
Absolutely fair then to compare the two transfers.
Both 25, 2 years left on Zinchenkos deal vs 3 on Martinez. Yet the variance in the fee is considerable.
So outstanding questions that need cleared up:
what height is he?
Isn’t it risky playing a leprechaun as a CB?
Is he being bought to play DM?
Can he play DM?
Who will pay alongside him?
I don’t see any posts that clear these up

It's irrelevant as Martinez is a CB and ZInchenko is LB. Zinchenko was a back up player available for Arsenal and unrealistic target for us. Zinchenko never started more than 50% of league games for City, whereas Martinez is Ajax's best player.
We signed back up LB for 12 million and looks like Arsenal have paid close to 3 times that money. Poor deal.
You do realize Arsenal likely wanted Martinez for a LB spot? He can play there also.
Mate, we've bought plenty of players who won the POTY at their clubs the year of signing them and most turned out to be flops, it's a pretty irrelevant point. Mikhataryan, Pogba, Sanchez etc etc. If anything that evidence suggests we should of steered clear.
Is our back up LB (Malacia) a 4 time league winner? Nah!
I'll give you that Zinchenko is their back up, not surprising looking at City's squad though.
So much for Arsenal not being an enticing prospect over us.

Because we have a finite budget every season and every ten million you overpay is ten million you can't spend on another area that needs strengthening when we could justifably make an argument that every single position needs an upgrade. You hardly think people are worried the Glazers aren't getting bang for their bucks do you?Our club is owned by rich arseholes who we all hate, yet for some reason people have a personal attachment to how much we buy players for.
Kind of strange tbh.
You ignored the bit where i said he's perfectly adequate as a third/fourth choice central defender. Having the sense not to be a moaner is just an additional perk.So just for the fact he keeps his mouth shut we should look past the fact that he’s not good enough? Hmmm after 6 years I thought there’d be less excuses not more brought out!
We have accountants and financial experts at the club who worry about that stuff. If we're happy to spend £50m on a player it's because we can afford it without having to sacrifice other key targets. It's not like they look at the bank balance and then go "shit, now we're short by £10m and can't afford de Jong"Because we have a finite budget every season and every ten million you overpay is ten million you can't spend on another area that needs strengthening when we could justifably make an argument that every single position needs an upgrade. Why do I care for which position Arsenal wanted Martinez for. Also when you drop down the list to sign players at bottom of the list, they would cost less. There is a reason Arsenal wanted to sign Martinez and then tried to sign Zinchenko.
Did Zinchenko start more than 16 league games for City in a single season?
It's hilarious to see how the tone changed when Arsenal made bid for Martinez to now. If this was Woodward, you would be beating the drum saying how he has beaten Arsenal to sign the player.
From " So much for Arsenal not being an enticing prospect over us. " when Arsenal made a bid that would have been rejected anyways to biging up City back up player who never started more than 15 league games in a season . All because of one person and that's Woodward
We don’t know what our budget is. There have been some press briefings before the window started but thats about it and the history of the owners is all over the place(The glazers are even shite at spending money).Because we have a finite budget every season and every ten million you overpay is ten million you can't spend on another area that needs strengthening when we could justifably make an argument that every single position needs an upgrade. Simply pointing out that it is indeed relevant.
Wouldn't say *bottom*, I'd say 2nd on list.
Already answered, City are a different beast to Ajax and spoiled for options. No shame in him competing with the likes of Cancelo and Walker for starts.
Ah yes when all else fails, quickly change tactic to immature insults that have sweet FA to do with the topic.
And you started this conversation by saying I bring up irrelevant sentiments? Just randomly throw in some crap about Woodward in a lame attempt to try be cool and funny.
Will it get you some private back slaps from some scouts and mods? Bravo! Well done you.
Rarely seen a poster as negative as Keefy. Maybe football and Utd isn’t for them.
@Keefy18 in the mud here
People are not worried about where the money are coming from, but instead worry if they are spent irrationally. Then there are posters like you who don’t even get the point. Our club is owned by rich arseholes who we all hate, yet for some reason people have a personal attachment to how much we buy players for.

Potentially would cost as much as Bruno who even if I don't rate that highly is a goal-scoring attacker.
Our club is run by idiots.
Read loads of stupid posts all the time and this is up there even for you. Fair play.Read loads of stupid posts today and this is up there. Fair play.
That choice is not entirely up to the player. If Arsenal offered more than United, Ajax would of course prefer to sell to them. The player could refuse and stay, but it’s not like Martinez could just pick any club disregarding the offers from other clubs, because he is under a contract with Ajax. What a load of rubbish. If he had the choice between joining Arteta and Arsenal or ETH and United, he isn't going to choose Arsenal.

Is he not very tall? First I’ve heard of it, no one’s mentioned it have they?I wish you lot would stop underestimating him because of his height!
Zinchenko and Jesus are players that aren't good enough imo. Jesus was really hyped in Brazil and I even said at the time he wasn't good enough to be a mainstay in a team with our aspirations. So it's no surprise to see City sell him. When did Zichenko become a serious player
And why are people debating him?

No one really cares about the direction of the club because tbh that would be a odd thing for a grown adult to do. People just like to complain on the internet.People are not worried about where the money are coming from, but instead worry if they are spent irrationally. Fred for 50m pounds, Maguire for 80m pounds, DVB for 40m , overpaid on wages on countless of players. We are in the gutterfor the very same reason. Now we go and spend this amount of money on a very unproven CB, and posters like yourself are “who cares it’s not your money”. Well it’s not the point, people are worried and rightfully of the direction this club is going and shows no sign of changing.
Jesus was backup CF in a team that didn’t even play a CF, just cannot take him seriously.
For transfers above a certain amount, I think Ajax is required to. This one obviously qualifies for that, so I expect Ajax to report the fee.
Reliable Dutch sources now report €54m+10m. Insane amount. Did not expect it to turn out this high.
What’s wrong with caring about the direction of the club? The weird thing is that some people (like the poster you responded to) seem insistent on denying that there are at least modest signs that the direction has changed since Woodward’s departure. No one really cares about the direction of the club because tbh that would be a odd thing for a grown adult to do. Possibly. Maybe they’re just ultra-sceptical and believe that while the Glazers are in control there won’t be any change. I don’t agree with them, but that doesn’t make me feel superior to them. The posters who have spent almost a decade turning the football section of this forum into a bore are still continuing to be negative because they get a weird sense of community and enjoyment out of hating their football club.
Well exactly. We are now signing players that help the manager play the way he wants. Ole said he wanted to play front-footed high-pressing football, so the club signed Maguire. Not a joined up process.Plus if you think the Martinez signing is in anyway similar to the Maguire signing then I can’t really help you here(Also the issue with Maguire isn’t that he costed £80 million but that he moves like a oil tanker and can’t play in a high line defence).
As much as I'm wary about the Martinez signing, he's a much better investment than Torres. Just Spanish Lindelof.Interesting that ETH was adamant to sign Martinez over Torres who is cheaper and taller.
