No. To be better than Ronaldo you have to be doing more than him in your career. Or the equivalent in more style. It's that simple. Messi is not here yet. Though he is trying his best to get there.

No. They can't. Ronaldo last season was in a team in similar form to what Barca has now and you saw his results. Let Messi do the same before we all crown him better. It's that simple.


He wont. He'd needs a record number of assists to do that. Or top scored in the champions league (To match Ronalo's incredible goal return for starters). On top of having to ensure Barca win a treble or at least a league and champions league double this year. With him heavily involved in the important moments in that run in like Ronaldo was last year.

Bullshit. Ronaldo both had the performances and the stats last season. & the season before when Kaka beat him to awards. If Messi can't match his stats with his natural game (creating goals and scoring a number) when on fire in a team on flame. Then he can't be better. It's that clear & simple. You can't have you cake and eat it too.

In the opinion of all professional footballers themselves Ronaldo was voted the best. It wasn't by mistake. It's high time you realised it is much harder for Messi to surpass Ronaldo than you love to potray. It's not the fore gone conclusion you want everyone to accept that Messi is already better.

I don't get why it's so funny. Rooney's one of the most technically gifted players on the planet, can do anything with a football. Strip him of his physical assets and he could still rip up a defence. Not many players at all could chip James the way Rooney did, nor could they hit the several outstanding passes Rooney does in a match (CL final to Ronaldo).

why doesn't he rip apart defences like Messi does then? why hasn't he had phenominal statistical seasons like Ronaldo then? why hasn't he carried his team like the way Gerrard has this season then?

Needs to play off a main striker, see how he looks better than anyone else on the pitch in an England shirt (even that Gerrard guy). See whenever he played off Ruud he looked unstoppable. Thing is, even if Rooney doesn't play off the main striker, he's still good because he's that talented.

As for statistics, Ronaldo was amazing in 06/07 but Rooney also scored the same amount of him and wasn't too far off with the assists. Notice how he's been injured too and is still at a young age.

I'm no fan boy either, if you check my profile then Ronaldo is my favourite player. It's silly not to appreciate how gifted Rooney is though.

hold on there son, for the record, I love watching Rooney on form. I love it when he gets every chance possible to develop. Because I know he is the true future of United and he will be here long after Ronaldo is gone.

Now that being said, I don't go around claiming he is God's gift to football.

Saying he's better technically than Ribery doesn't mean he's "God's gift to football".

Nah, Rooney and Villa's technique is very similar. Both capable of sublime first touches passing and finishes. But Villa probably edges it due to what he's capable of with his left foot as well as his right. He's certainly more of a two footed player.

Rooney being a lot younger will most likely improve on aspects like that over the years and has every chance of being better at it by the time he's Villa's age though.

Torres is one of those a bit like Berbatov in that his technique isnt amazing, but there are certain technical actions they can complete that look brilliant to those watching. Berbatov's would be his first touch and his volleys, Torres' would be some of his finishing and dribbling.

aye, it depends what one means by technique. In terms of first touch, control, passing, dribbling, shooting and overall skills, Rooney's certainly at least on par with them for most of these. His footballing brain is what makes him such a special player though. At his best, there is no contest, Wazza's on the same level as Messi and Ronaldo when on form.

= Ronaldo (on form), yes. IMO, in terms of talent and potential they're the 3 most gifted players and at their best there is very little separating them. The only difference has been Rooney's inconsistency at sustaining his level relative to the other two, mainly due to injuries and lack of form when coming back from them.

I disagree with everything i wrote "i disagree" with after.

You say he needs to finish the season with all the awards. I don't think he does because if he performs well and Barca still don't win the CL he's still going to be in pole position for the awards because no-one has came close to his performances.

You talk about how Messi would need to set some sort of record to be considered better than Ronaldo this season which again is utter bullshit. Players awarded the ballon d'or aren't always setting records and to judge a player purely on stats is idiotic. You can't be the best if you don't score more goals than someone did the season before? or set up more goals? you really can be better regardless otherwise why would a defender be awarded these awards? or a midfielder who doesnt score 30-40 goals a season?

You say Messi can't match Ronaldo, again living in last seasons glory when even if Ronaldo was banging in goals last season to say his performances were always of the highest standard strikes me as blind bias. Messi so far this season has performed better than anyone did last season, yes big tests do lie ahead but up to this point he's been untouchable.

Currently Messi is better and come the end of the season when he picks up the individual honours you can't really argue with it. You can argue to the death that Ronaldo 08 and his 42 goals are better than Messi does this season, or better than anyone else ever or better than any Manchester United player since Denis Law managed 45 in 41 games but the measure of a player is not purely goals or purely assists. Purely on stats Messi has played 40 games scoring 30 with 13 assists. He's not done yet either.
