To put it plainly Frankly Vulgar, until Messi passes through a season with a truly bad patch of form and reproduces the stats Ronaldo has this season, or better yet, plays half a season through the pain barrier and wins world, European and domestic player of the year on top of the European golden boot ( or in a Messi's case make a record number of assists as awesome as a 42 goal season), then and only then would he have earned the right to be considered better than Ronaldo.
So basically anyone who wants to be considered better than Ronaldo has to do everything he's done? can't he just be a better footballer? Can't his performances just speak for themselves? IF he keeps doing what he's doing this season he'll already eclipse Ronaldo of last season and he doesnt need to score a record number of goals or create a record number of assists, he just needs to play his natural game to the same standard he has done so far this season. It's better football than Ronaldo at his very best which is why i rate him as a better footballer.

He needs to finish this year with the type of awards and team results Ronaldo had last season and needs to also show he can still perform effectively even with bad form or an injury hampering him for more than a few months in the coming years. I have posted long before Messi's form this season and fanboi's started watching Laliga that he is the only player around who has the potential to become a Maradona or Pele. But he is nowhere near there yet.
Laliga has been shite over the last couple of seasons - only Barca and Villareal have made the quarterfinals of the CL over the past 2 seasons and only Getafe in the UEFA cup reached the QF last season. I guess there is no Spanish team left in the UEFA cup this season. Messi has just been dominant in a poor league. The final rounds of the CL is where his real test lies.

No chief is right. He does need to produce the goods when they matter, guide his team to the major honors like ronaldo did and be recognized officially as the best for those feats, to do so. Ribery has played better than Ronaldo at times this season, doesnt mean hes surpassed Ronaldo. Rooney has looked better a lot of the time, doesnt make him better. Infact its laughable to think so. In the end form counts for only so much, you have to to do it when it matters, consistantly and in the end do what all great players do, bring their clubs success.
Infact Rooneys best performances in 2005/2006 were probably better asthetically than Ronaldo's. But the fact that ronaldo got the goals that drove us to unbelievable success, makes his a far far far more superior season.
Messi can have as good a season as possible, but if he fails in the next few hurdles, IMO it doesnt mean his season is better. Henry did that for years, absolutely mauled teams domestically, but in europe failed to inspire his team. Ronaldo did both, hence the accolades. Messi has to do the same. As pleasing as he is to watch, and as well as hes playing right now, success is important, winning big trophies and playing a huge part in it for your club is important.

Depends on what you're looking at. Rooney's overall play is far superior to all of those players. His footballing brain is the best amongst those and his passing is a few notches above them, long and short. Plus when on form his volleying technique and ball striking is right up there with the best. Not comparing him as a player, mind.
