FV, everyone can tell your extraordinary liking towards Messi but you don't be so harsh on Ronalod at the same time. Can't we just leave this argument as saying Ronaldo=Messi in terms of ability/potential.

Its what he does and then he gets worked up when people do it about Messi. Double standards. I see plenty of people praising Messi without putting down Ronaldo.

If Messi had performed at the level Ronaldo has this season i'd put him down too.

People constantly come away with rubbish like "Messi is better at dribbling and that's it". Yet this complete lack of footballing knowledge has no bearing yet when i comment on Ronaldos poor form i show double standards and an agenda...

Double standards indeed.

Saying someone's been poor/bad/pathetic/rubbish/ etc. over a period of time isn't putting them down.

It's not the same as saying they're a poor/bad/pathetic/rubbish/ etc. player, it's obviously just bemoaning their performances.

It seems to me, that when Messi plays badly, you keep quiet. When Ronaldo does, you can't wait to say. I am just calling it as I see it.

And you seem shocked that people seem biased towards Ronaldo. What do you expect? this is a Manchester United forum. Its that way with most, if not all players.

That bit is true.
Good to see someone who can admit it, i'm not out to bring Ronaldo down but i'll give an honest opinion on his performance, if he was good i'd say so. He wasn't good, he wasn't close to good and this is against a championship side. Praise to you for at least admitting the truth.
There's something fundamentally wrong with Ronaldo this season, and his attitude underlines that. I'm not sure if its lack of confidence, lack of sharpness, whatever. But he is not near the levels of the last two seasons. He will get there when Sir Alex sorts him out. I'm really glad we aren't as reliant on him as last season, because basically without him at that form we wouldnt have won much. This season its more of a team effort, and I'm really happy about it.

Can remember what Ole said about Scholes, even when he has a poor match its hard for fans to notice that, they always maintain their foothold and play it safe even if they are not in their elements.

Great players are often guaged from their lower cut off levels, which is much higher than very good footballers, even though they are not in form. An out of from Best, Zidane or Goofy Ronaldo were much better players than Ronaldinho or Giggs whenever all these players struggle to find form. The comparison holds good to the same extent whenever Messi gets compared with Zlatan, Ronaldo or Kaka. Whenever Messi was struggling for match fitness, he still maintained his foothold, played it safe although the penetration went missing whilst when Ronaldo is not in form he's plainly rubbish.

30mins, he missed one good chance, created a few openings and helped the team raise their level and come back to earn a point.

Ronaldo has given rubbish performance after rubbish performance this season but he's still the best in the world in your eyes. You criticize Messi for coming off the bench when his team were 2-1 down yet Ronaldo can do no wrong despite an inept performance for 89mins against a championship team. Bravo Cal? keep it up.

Inept performance = playing in an unfamiliar position and scoring 2 goals (1 being wrongly disallowed).

Give me inept performances every time. :wenger:

He was offside.

As pointed out in that thread - if the linesman wasn't sure if Giggs got a touch, he couldn't have been sure that Giggs got the touch when Ronaldo was offside, and attaching teams are supposed to be given the benefit of the doubt.

Hence it should have been allowed, the fact the linesman guessed the right decision isn't the point.

The point is that it was given offside, rightly, not wrongly.

The point is that according to the rules, he shouldn't have been given offside, because the linesman wasn't sure if Giggs got the touch.

Goals tell the whole story Cal?

What if he didn't score in that game? Would you say he wasn't inept then? So scoring an unimportant goal in a game that is already over constitutes a fine performance from Ronaldo. And people think I’m biased!

Did I say it was a fine performance?

Playing in an unfamiliar position and scoring doesn't constitute "inept". :wenger:

It doesn't matter how they came to the decision, it was the right one.

Of course it does, referees and their assistants are not supposed to guess and the attacking side is supposed to get the benefit of the doubt.

:wenger:

Ronaldo was offside and that's what the linesman ruled. I couldn't care less how they come to their decisions as long as they get the right decision in the end. We won comfortably in the end anyway so it's largely irrelevant, but your assertion that his first 'goal' was 'wrongly disallowed' is worthy of a few more of these....:wenger::wenger::wenger::wenger::wenger:

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

You'd be screaming blue fecking murder if someone scored like that against your lot.

When has Messi played badly this season? i'll judge him on performances like anyone else and his performances this season have been better than anyone else’s by quite some distance, that much is obvious to all but the blind. I've seen him play not great this season, but never a performance i would call crap, not great sure but he hasn't stank up the place.

Yes i understand this is a United Forum and that people will be biased but i really don't understand that, everyone can have there favourite players. I have mine but that doesn't mean i put them above players who are performing or are genuinely better than them.

I find it baffling some of the antics going on. But i suppose if people want to be blindly biased (which confuses me considering United have more plus points to be genuinely proud of without a need for foolish bias than any other team in the world) concerning every single aspect of their chosen football team then they are kidding no-one but themselves.

Messi hasn't been poor this season but there have been games where he has been quiet but popped up with a crucial goal. A bit like Ronaldo last season.

I've admitted that much, he has had quiet games but also outstanding games. Messi can be MOTM without scoring a goal, Ronaldo can't. Every shred of justification for Ronaldo now boils down to goals. He scored against Derby therefore he didnt give an otherwise inept performance...

Even the comentators who usually can't get their heads out of Ronaldos arse admitted that he was the weakest of the united players. He was poor, it was a bad performance by any standards, does it really matter that much? Can't people just admit it?

Back tracking from "inept" to "poor" now eh?

What the feck is supposed to mean by Ronaldo can't be MoTM without scoring a goal? Are you just being stupid on purpose?

I don't know if it's escaped you, but we tend to defend very well and will not leave a big fat gap down the middle for one of the fastest player in the World to run into.

So the likelihood of us conceeding a goal like that is minimal.

I'm impressed by how many times you lot can go round in circles in this thread.

Isn't this about the tenth loop?

It's like Groundhog Day in here.

poor, bad, inept.

He was all of the above in that game.

Ronaldo has changes so much as a player that if his game doesn't involve goals then he is deemed ineffective because he doesn't beat men anymore and doesn't do much creative work.

Point (not so) nicely avoided.

Cal, you're absolutely horrible at this whole Football Forum thing. Don't you realise everyone's laughing at you?

ROnaldo blindness storm, how anyone couldn't see he was rubbish i'll never ever know. I'm perplexed to be honest and i rarely use the word perplexed.

Couldn't it just be your Ronaldo bias rather than mine?

Who's to say you're any less biased towards Ronaldo than I am?

Clear, cos everyone agree with you that Messi is the best player ever ever. :wenger:

Hrm, I don't see anyone saying he's the best player ever ever, let alone ME saying that.

Yet another thing I need to add to the 'Cal's catalogue of outlandish/bullshit/hilariously naive and ignorant claims that he's pulled out of his arse.'

Please, do continue. Meanwhile we laugh.

Cal? sometimes act like Ronaldo's no.1 fans, and never stop arguing with others who don't agree with him, even it is pointless.

Bias has nothing to do with it Brwned, a performance is a performance. I might hate Frank Lampard, i might despise Liverpool and find them tumescent at the best of times but if they put in a good performance who am i to say they were shit even when i could clearly see they were good? Like Liverpool against Newcastle, i watched that game and Liverpool actually played really well. I don't like liverpool but i'll admit they played well.

Either i'm a complete idiot or Ronaldo was rubbish against Derby. Even if i am a complete retard that doesn't change the fact that Ronaldo was rubbish in that game. It doesn't matter, other players played great and United won comfortably. Ronaldo will play better, hopefully when it matters more but that doesn't change the fact that he played a stinker. Bias or no bias that's the truth.

Gary Teale had a better game than Ronaldo, Gary Teale.

Bias has everything to do with it.

I think he played well, the majority of people I know thought he played well.

You're not a retard but you're being silly.
